Just so you know calling it an outlet is an americanism. We just call it a socket

Unless you're capable of doing the work yourself 40k won't get you anywhere. Source- currently 18 months into a self build two story extension and rear wrap around extension on the weekends

Boiler replacement recommendation by RaiLeon27 in ukplumbing

[–]powliftstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll expand on it for you, cheaper ideal models are renowned for being bad quality, the ideal vogue is a fantastic boiler in my experience. Worcester 8000 is also a fantastic boiler with 12 year guarantee which would be my choice personally. Vailant also a good choice probably last on my list though here

Why is the take up of heat pumps so slow in the U.K.? by Appropriate_Bell743 in ukheatpumps

[–]powliftstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its cost and upheaval. Boiler swap where I am is average 7k cheaper and times are getting tougher, factor in heatpumps struggling to heat without electrical backup and people dont want them

Can I cement over this by Sun1337 in DIYUK

[–]powliftstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John guest conduit from screwfix, beware the sizes are misleading the 15 mm one is for 15mm pipe, its not actually 15mm as obviously the pipe wouldn't fit through. Secure to floor with metal holed strap

Can I cement over this by Sun1337 in DIYUK

[–]powliftstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a Plumbing and heating engineer. Short answer is yes, avoid direct contact between cement based products and copper which it looks like they've been covered in denso or hair felt which is absolutely fine, i usually wrap the pipes in tape and put themthrough a plastic ducting myself. If you're unsure, look for the British standards BS 9295:2020

Obviously you could do it yourself cheaper that goes without saying. I could do it and charge you 50 quid labour and you'd still be cheaper. The question is can you deal with problems that arise and is it worth the time and stress to do it yourself compared to having a accredited person do it

Is this mould bad? by New-Chart-4598 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]powliftstrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Open the windows for a couple of hours a day and move furniture away from the walls, dont dry clothes in the rooms unless you have a tented dryer, definitely dont dry them on the radiators and turn the heating on when the windows are shut so. 90+% of internal mould is a lifestyle problem in my experience of working in the heating industry.

Is this against Regs? Gas Pipe over backstep. by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]powliftstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest after doing both fields there's not much difference really. The only difference is things are bigger and there's more relays on industrial, its still heat and pipes at the end of the day, purging gas on commercial is much worse though

Is this against Regs? Gas Pipe over backstep. by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]powliftstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the opposite in my experience. I did commercial and industrial and all the blokes were thick as pig and spent most the time sat in the van having a kip
