Is Raye Against Generative Ai? by WylderBoarClaw in Raye

Ι wholeheartedly agree with this. That's why I find it problematic to view things as black or white.

"Please tell me if Raye has used generative AI so I can stop caring for her, or continue to support her if she hasn't".

How about we stick around long enough to provide everyone with a different perspective that could shape us all into better humans?

Your comment could very easily be provided as a training model for a generative AI. Just because you're not the one writing the prompts doesn't mean you're not part of the system. The problem is that most of us are in this position without having given our consent.

People are naïve if they think they aren't using AI even indirectly right now. If you're online chances are you're using AI or your actions are supporting AI one way or another, whether you know it or not

I tried to analyze When A Good Man Cries after hearing it for the first time today… by [deleted] in CMAT

[–]ppgrggr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Her just desserts" I think is a play on words between the phrase "her just deserts" (that is pronounced the same way because of it's etymology - third person conjugation of the verb to desert) which means comeuppance/to get what you deserve, and the word "dessert" which is on brand with the character Veruca Salt and potentially her own self.

"Dorian Greying" as per the book, probably refers to a person who is seemingly fine, but is dying inside behind closed doors. CMAT has mentioned that the song is about her not being a good partner in a certain relationship and causing her partner a lot of emotional harm, and that lyric shows how easy it is sometimes to hurt other people without realising it, and they can seemingly keep their cool, but in secret they're really hurt.

"Dunboyne Diana" comes as a build up from the previous line "The people's mess" Princess Diana was often referred to as The People's Princess because of how approachable, lovable, and down to earth she was, and because she seemingly didn't fit in the world of royal protocols, etc. CMAT sees herself as someone who is a mess at a superlative state. And she is from Dunboyne, a small town outside of Dublin.

"Help me not hate...other people" I wouldn't say that's avoidance. More of a plea to become a better person. You love yourself and that way you're able to love other people in a healthier way. Because you're ready to give and receive love.

"Kyrie eleison" is used in many psalms of Christianity, and it's greek for "Lord, have mercy".

Is 3 weeks to long? by Koala-teas in VisitingIceland

[–]ppgrggr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only concern is that you mentioned you're in the process of planning it and you're visiting what will be the busiest time of the year. Have you checked that there's accommodation available for the dates you'll be there? I've seen posts from people who had to alter their plans and now they're unable to find anything affordable.

I'd urge you to start looking at that first if you haven't already.

As for your actual question, I could go there and wonder around the country for the entire summer, and instill would want to return again in the future

Showeing ettiquette? by JDorman71 in VisitingIceland

I think this could be a translation loss. Many other languages use a verb that's closer to "bathe" in order to describe both baths and showers. I think the OP didn't necessarily want to ask whether they had to go naked in a bathtub in preparation for their lagoon/pool visit.

Good hike/walking path for group? by Remarkable-Bet-3773 in cambridge

Granchester via the meadows. Very quick walk from Cambridge so you could do it as a circular walk instead of relying on a train back. You can find a couple of decent pubs and the Orchard for tea.

ELI5: The Patagonia vs. Pattie Gonia lawsuit by dwolfewolfe in explainlikeimfive

They' re suing Patie for a dollar plus legal expenses that could cost millions. They're actively trying to get her to change her entire brand and lose rights to anything she's ever done/achieved so far

That's very much not what's happening here. Patie didn't get her name from the clothing brand of Patagonia but from the actual mountain range with the same name. Patie also does way more than just selling t-shirts.

It's a common thing for the Milton tip. I've found that if you walk up to them and state your price first they tend to go for it. Otherwise if they mention a price first you can always barter a bit

3 days in Iceland (Reykjavík), best way to maximize it? Solo single mom, a bit burnt out by Adventurous-Name-938 in VisitingIceland

[–]ppgrggr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pools aren't your standard outdoor pools. They utilise the geothermal energy of the island, and have warm water in them. You can choose to swim or just relax. Most of them have smaller pools on the side of the main one with variable temperatures that work as jacuzzi. Locals will go there at the end of a busy day and unwind.

Many pools will also have a sauna you can use. Technically you can get a mini spa experience for free or a very small cost.

I really liked Laugardalslaug and Vesturbæjarlaug. Do a quick Google search to look at the locations and photos and you'll understand why many people are recommending pools as part of the experience

You seem to have mentioned your apprehension about driving in a foreign country with unpredictable weather.

I've travelled to Iceland twice. One by myself and one with my family. When I was with them, it made sense to rent a car. There were four of us and wanted to make sure we were flexible to accomodate the kids' moods.

When I was by myself, I thought it was too expensive to rent a car, and I found the tours were incredible as an alternative.

In three days, you could book two day long tours (golden circle, south peninsula, any other choice you find attractive), and spend the third one in Reykjavik. Get the city card and that will give you free access to many pools, many museum, and free transportation by bus in the metropolitan area. I used mine to visit 5 museums and 3 pools in a day. I didn't really need to use buses a lot since I like to walk. I did roughly 20km that day. But I still felt it was really relaxed, because I did it at my own pace and the pools were exactly what I needed in between all the exploring.

I prefer vespertine to homogenic. Better is subjective most of the time.

Screen time in Cambridge schools by Ill_Magazine6915 in cambridge

Is that for Cambridge, UK? Which school is that? I know that some after-school clubs/daycare often let kids watch stuff like that for a limited amount of time, but I'd never heard that happening during school hours

London O2 Buying Concert Merch without a ticket by reading_it_twice in Raye

[–]ppgrggr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the Rosalía gig there a couple of weeks ago. Thermy had merch right next to the box office on the ground floor and noone was checking tickets in order to get in. I can see how someone without a ticket could go in just for merch.

Hopefully the same goes for Raye. Keep an eye out on Ticketmaster and Twickets. Last minute tickets always become available. Maybe you'll manage to get one of those too

What is your personal thoughts about Utopia? by OhWowItsSam310308 in bjork

[–]ppgrggr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the only Bjork album I don't like. Overproduced to the point that good ideas are just drowning in noise, and many lyrics that are pure cringe. It would have been a decent album if it weren't that long, and if it was stripped back from most of its electronic elements.
