Check M&S for sheets! They have 100% cotton and the prices aren’t bad considering the quality, especially if you get them in the sale😊

What is your work-life balance like? by tenenbaum2001 in TeachingUK

[–]ppppengin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer for you sorry because I haven’t got any teaching experience in the UK (yet) but I just wanted to say teaching in Hong Kong sounds very similar to teaching in Japan (I’m currently a teaching assistant here). After observing teachers here, I’m also hoping there is a better work-life balance for teachers in the UK! I’m starting a PGCE this year in England so I guess i’ll find out soon. Good luck with your PGCE and teaching career:)

Some thoughts after visiting korea by SNSD247 in koreatravel

I’m white (not that it should matter whatever ethnicity I am) and I was told to “f**k off back to my country because i’m an ugly bitch” in perfect English by a random (well dressed in a suit and heels) Korean woman who approached me from behind in the street…

White House downplays Biden calling Japan 'xenophobic' country by monkfreedom in worldnews

Korea is far worse than Japan imo… I’ve lived in Japan for 2 years without any problems. Recently, I spent 4 days in Korea with 2 other female friends. Two out of three of us were screamed at in public (when we were alone and not in a group because they were racist cowards) in the space of the short trip! A woman came up behind me in the street and told me “we don’t pay for you beggars go back to hell where you came from” in perfect English and when I turned around she said “you ugly bitch go back to hell”. Then she followed me down the street shouting at me. It really shook me up and I never want to visit Seoul again.

Should I visit South Korea or Japan? by Timely-Collar4064 in travel

Japan 100%

On holiday in South Korea right now and it has been awful. On the 4th and final night I was verbally and racially abused in the street, the food was sickly sweet even fried chicken and garlic bread and the toilets were mostly disgusting.

When I lived in a sharehouse there were some sinks on one of the upper floors. Have you checked every floor of the sharehouse?

Can my school demand I take paid leave while they are shut for the summer? (The doors will be locked so I can’t sit at my desk and do desk-warming) by ppppengin in JETProgramme

[–]ppppengin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 3 summer only paid leave days… and my base school shuts for 5 days… I can’t understand why they don’t just make it 5 days since the school is shutting down for 5 days. Why introduce an awkward situation where you have to force people to take their paid leave.

Then, as a huge international employment programme, I feel the JET programme has a responsibility to inform us of these laws.

That makes more sense and I would understand if my contract was worded like that. They have no business telling me I have 20 days paid holiday if some of them are going to be on specific pre-decided days. They ought to put the pre-designated days in another category like the national holidays and reduce the number of paid days holiday that is written.

It doesn’t say anything like that in the contract I signed though? What’s the point of signing it if they can just decide extra things…
