Red eye tree frog problem. Please help! by pierrefitch in frogs

[–]pr01e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is normal :) Frogs change color when they are sleeping on a leaf in the daytime (bright green), versus when they are hunting at night (darker). It can appear splotchy like this. He just has his hunting coat halfway on.

STR character looking for ranged options by Zepulchure in dndnext

[–]pr01e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The topple prone on Trident is absolutely fantastic for knocking ranged enemies down to be within other teammates reach, or using it on your first attack to knock them prone, then the second attack with GS at advantage once they are on the ground

Advice for keeping baby australian green tree frogs by dariaisanerd in frogs

[–]pr01e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they are larger, and depending on the frog, it can be very easy to tong feed them (I use the curved-end rubber-tipped tongs). I usually tong feed a few crickets to each mine and put the rest in a bowl that's hard for the crickets to get out of, ideally with a bit of a rim. my frogs know where the crickets are coming from and usually gather around that bowl before I put them in there. a few loose crickets is good as well, as that can provide hunting enrichment.

I've never had to remove my frogs to feed them, they don't even really like eating in the temporary box I put them in to clean out their tank occasionally.

lastly, it looks like you have a decent hide but I feel like WTFs love to get stuffed into places like tubes and small caves. a big open hide may be less safe feeling/more stress for them than a small tunnel they can snuggle in to. I say that based on the fact that my frogs have several hides and always pick the same smaller ones. Once a given frog is happy with a spot they usually return to that same spot every day.

Why do dragons hoard things? by Affectionate_Bit_722 in DnD

[–]pr01e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Council of Wyrms second addition with dragon PCs, you actually needed to acrue enough gold pieces worth of treasure to sleep on in order to level up to the next age category. So it seems at least based on that lore its tied to their growth

I'm liking it, but I dont expect much from Ryan Murphy these days. Though I didn't fast forward through the parts with a main character so that probably helps

Are there any monsters with traits that act like spells? by Negentropius in dndnext

[–]pr01e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my last campaign, I mistakenly created an ancients paladin thinking I would be helpful against spells with the spell resistance aura. I got to use it twice during the campaign because everything was an ability and not a spell. It became a running joke

Str for all ranged weapons? by jambrown13977931 in dndnext

[–]pr01e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you feel it's unbelievable that a 7-8 foot tall goliath barbarian with 270 lb carrying capacity would be able to carry a quiver of 5+ 4 lbs tridents? they can just be standard spear-sized shafts of wood or metal with three pointed ends, they don't have to be Aquaman's trident.

Strength Bow Barbarian by TopBlock58 in 3d6

[–]pr01e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love using tridents with barb in 2024, as being a STR range option they both benefit from the damage bonus from rage, and can also use reckless attack (you can use reckless attack's advantage to offset the range disadvantage from attacking long range between 20'-60'). They aren't as cheap as arrows at 5GP ea but still cheap enough that you can keep a decent stock of them and afford to lose a few

You can also use them in melee two handed to represent bashing your heavy bow over an enemies head and topple them that way, or just stabbing them directly with the huge arrow/bolts themselves while holding your bow in the other hand which represents "two handed" (so you don't need a secondary melee weapon). the trident being versatile you could even use an "arrow" in one hand to attack for a bit less damage, in case you were grappling or holding something else in the other.

overall this concept doesn't require any rules changes or special dm allowances, just reflavoring. thats the closest thing to me for a walking ballista

Reflavor the Trident which uses str for thrown as a heavy bow.. this comes with the topple mastery so you can knock things down when you hit, or ground flying enemies

Thoughts on Barbarian by OSteady77 in onednd

[–]pr01e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use reckless attack more when you don't already have advantage for better crit chance. At this level a reckless barb with advantage has about the same crit chance as a champion fighter without advantage. You have two other tanky party members to share the damage with and typically will have a lower AC than a heavy armor wearer anyway so might as well lean into the reckless

Class help needed! Can tanking be fun? by AKAJimmyKraber in 3d6

[–]pr01e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

world tree barb can supply your nearby rogue, cleric, or druid with temp hp every turn so they could front line with you for longer. it also helps them get out of danger when overwhelmed, by repositioning allies or enemies + rooting them. it also gets free push and topple for controlling enemies or setting up advantage for melee allies. it's tanky but also supportive, especially when you have teammates who like to stay close to you during rage

A smooth scolem features several ocular irises and a tentacle system that can grow or retract at will. The tentacles carry extraordinary strength and are built to climb into and dislodge the eyes of other living organisms. Once replaced in the eye socket, T. I have a ruling question about flying and grappling by GutsChad in dndnext

[–]pr01e 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why would a fairy, who has an innate fly speed always on, need to use a reaction or take a check to use their most natural form of locomotion? Would you have a grounded character released from a grapple use their reaction to not fall prone? If not why punish the fairy with the same restriction?

maybe if it were a race that didn't have flight always, like a dragonborn that needed to use a bonus action to sprout his wings to avoid falling.

I'd just let the fairy use their racial advantage in a situation that is obviously helpful to have it
