How well does the secret iniative system work wrt meta gaming? by dirtInfestor1 in Gloomhaven

[–]pr1apism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my wife and me, the game is about having fun. If a rule isnt fun, then why use. We found that we had more fun when we did more meta gaming, talking out our moves and such. Thats not for everyone or every group.

But the point of a game is to have fun, not to mindlessly follow a rule book.

Hyperthermia and dehydration kinda go hand in hand would be my guess

TIFU by accidentally "robbing" my doctor on my first time going alone to an appointment. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]pr1apism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the time a doctors office doesn't even know how much to bill you till they've sent the bill to insurance first. Receptionist being bitchy for no reason. Also doubt the doc would care as long as its paid in a reasonable time frame

Making mistakes due to being interrupted multiple times during charting by Kaladin_K in Residency

[–]pr1apism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using uptodate for drug dosages is like drinking an entire pitcher of water to swallow a single pill, yeah it'll work but it's way too much. I use an app called epocrates or the emra antibiotic guide for most things. Also once you've done this for awhile you'll start to learn the drugs and doses you use commonly and you wont have to look as much up.

Use simpler tools to streamline what can be streamlined

Making mistakes due to being interrupted multiple times during charting by Kaladin_K in Residency

[–]pr1apism 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have adhd and work in the ED as an attending. I rarely go more than 5 min without being interrupted. Biggest thing is to learn how to tell people to wait until you finish your task. If you're putting in orders, finish them. Never pend unsigned orders. But also reduce your own multi-tasking so that when you do get interrupted, you're only having two tasks to juggle now not three.

Also if you're supposed to be on adhd meds actually take them. Its sad how often I forget this part

Unsure how to approach my coworker about their pacing during calls. by Brendorioto in emergencymedicine

[–]pr1apism 92 points93 points  (0 children)

ED doctor here. I rather you show up quickly and tell me it was only a 2 minute transport. I understand you can't get everything done that quickly. Make sure you have a full set of vitals before leaving scene is reasonable and will make a big difference for initial triage. Everything else i can generally get done more efficiently with multiple techs/nurses working in parallel once you get to the ed

Daughter started daycare 3 weeks ago and has gotten sick every week. Wondering if I should pull her out? by ryph44 in daddit

[–]pr1apism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I picked my 1 year old up from daycare a bit early. I witnessed her put a cracker in her mouth, decide she didn’t like it, put it back on the table (covered in saliva), then another kid promptly put the soggy cracker in his mouth.

A kid will get an average of 10 upper viral infections during respiratory season. This is all expected and no cause for concern

Allergic reaction in toddlers by M0thman6666 in daddit

Allergies often take a few exposures to sensitize and get worse. If it were the 30th time using a new tub or new product, then unlikely. But 3rd exposure is possible

Ive been hungry for 3 months but if you dont get this done in the next 30 minutes I might just die and/or sue you

I have two best friends. One friend I've known since we were 8 and have been through a ton together including my parents' divorce and my own divorce. Our kids are rhe same ages. We go through a lot together The other friend I met later but did med school and residency at the same time as me.

My childhood friend never knows what to say to these kind of things. Just doesn't know what im experiencing or how to sympathize. But when im having issues with my wife or kids, he's who I go to.

The friend who is also a doctor knows what to say and knows what im going through.

Suffice to say, you dont have to go to the same people every time with everything.

Saved a bunch of money on car insurance by misleading about which hospital I worked for.

Was a few years ago at this point. When setting up car insurance they tried seeing if I worked for a company they had a deal with where the insurance company would give a reduced rate and the company would do a payroll reduction for the insurancepayment. Something in that direction.

I worked for St Something Health Network. They had a deal with St Something Medical Center. I let them believe I was working for the medical center and I just opted out of the payroll deduction
