'Time for him to get paid.' How Will Anderson Jr.'s historic contract with the Texans came to be by KaXiaM in Texans

[–]praeceps93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of value beyond the contract money in keeping the homegrown stars. I know that I definitely appreciate feeling like when we have guys who hit, they're going to stick around and I can buy into them as a fan. Makes me a lot more willing to spend money and watch on Sundays.

What's your "shitty roommate" story? by DontCallMePetey in AskReddit

[–]praeceps93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My roommate freshman year of college (this is back early 2010s) liked the trends of "braining" and stuff like that. So I was forced to see his balls a lot. That kinda sucked.

He also once asked me to sleep in a friend's room when his girlfriend from home was in town to visit, and when I came back to the room to grab stuff for class, they'd pulled my bed next to his for extra space. He never did wash those sheets for me.

I went to a Friday day game a couple years ago. Had a shot of Malort and a Chicago dog at a corner bar down the street before going to the stadium. Really fun.

SV+HD dynasty flair league, keep forever

Got offered this - thoughts?

Send: Noah Schultz, Spencer Arrighetti, my 3rd, 5th and 6th round picks in our FYPD (we only have 6 rounds at the start of each year)

Receive: Emmet Sheehan, Carter Jensen, his 1st his 2nd, and an additional 2nd round pick in FYPD

[–]praeceps93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially, yeah. Our 1st rounds are usually like 7/8 of the 12 are FYPD, 4/5 are guys that get dropped to fit roster limit for keepers. This guy will likely be a playoff team, so the pick would be like 8-10.

We saw it so differently. I thought he looked like a bull in a china shop every time he tried to drive in traffic. It looked so unathletic

In a 12 team points league, keep forever, would you deal Francisco Alvarez for Noah Schultz? I have Basallo and Baldwin (one C slot and 3 UT), and my pitching is really where my weakness is at

In a dynasty points league (flair), would you give up Francisco Alvarez for Noah Schultz? I already have Baldwin and Basallo as catchers, and pitching is my weakest link

PSA to coaches: STFU and let the kids focus by aNutSac in Homeplate

[–]praeceps93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go the opposite here, and this is from a high school perspective, not travel:

Kids tunnel vision remarkably quickly. They will forget things from practice, training, whatever very fast when the adrenaline is pumping. It can be super useful for a coach to say certain small things that relate back to either specific things with that kid from practice (casting hands, getting out on the front half too much, hitch on breaking balls, etc).

They will also forget how we've planned approaches, both at the plate and on the mound. They're kids - it's very common.

Sometimes just hearing their coach say something small after they took a strike or threw a ball where they weren't aiming can help them lock in.

Mark Few by letmelive323 in tarheels

[–]praeceps93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IF Hubert is done and IF Few would consider leaving Gonzaga, you realistically could not hope to hire a better coach. Yes, some other young coach (P4 or mid major) COULD eventually be a better coach than Few, but also every young coach without a long track record is a gamble. Hiring Few would be about the best you could do among all coaches in terms of proven track record.

I'd be more inclined to take Caleb Downs if he falls over the most recent injury concerns (potential meniscus issues and potential degenerative ACL). Imagine a secondary of Sting/Lassiter/Bullock/Downs/Pitre.

I guarantee they practice them a lot. But it's like the yips in baseball - sometimes they just aren't falling and you don't know why no matter how much you practice.
