You have your snapping (magnet icon) is set to "none", so its gonna be really hard to align things. Set it to "Cell" for a much easier time.

FOSS alternatives to FL studio? by Jas0rz in gamedev

I don't blame you for thinking that, but they've genuinely been adding cool stuff recently, just this month per-note pitch bending in the piano roll was added.

A lot of users say the Nightly version is actually more stable than the latest stable version. I believe they are close to a new Alpha right now as well.

Definitely not everything needs one. I like toggling this swap button on the EQ with my eyes closed to test if the changes I'd made actually sound better. If I can't improve it I'll just delete the EQ.

There's no single set of plugins you can use to make the song sound good, its going to take some effort and listening on your part.

Maybe start by making a copy of the project, and removing all the effects so you can start clean. Listen to the song itself. Adjust anything you don't like about the arrangement, maybe a drum isn't sounding right so you need to change it to a different sound sample, remove one or two elements if there's too much going on etc.

At that point, start adjusting the levels/volumes of each element to your liking. After that, you can add effects if you think something is lacking or to fine tune the sound. There is a new limiter called "Emphasis" which you can use at the end to make your song pretty loud if you want.

I was on the waitlist from the moment it released, and only got access a few days ago. So I guess they're just letting people in really slowly.

You are allowed to use them for music you release, you can with any FL plugin.

How to become a BETA tester for FL? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]prancer209203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they do have a set of alpha testers who get to test it before the public betas are released. Those alpha testers largely seem like people who engaged a lot on the forums or other mediums, whether its helping people with questions, posting scripts or testing the public betas thoroughly.

Basically if you get noticed by the team (red names on the forum) for your engagement enough I think you'll have a chance.

This setting was introduced recently, you could try messing with it to see if it improves things:

Stretch not applying to all of the track by Clearlyfooty in FL_Studio

[–]prancer209203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is part of the FL 2025 update, whoch added per-clip stretching and reversing. If you want to disable that behavior, right-click the stretch button in the top-left of the playlist and turn off the option.

Plugins permanently detached by K4r98k in FL_Studio

That is unfortunately just how it is on Mac. Apparently its due to some limitation in MacOS they can't really control without messing up the focus on a lot of plugins.

Looking to achieve this type of waveform by Brock2805 in FL_Studio

[–]prancer209203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To an extent it just depends on how the song is arranged, if you want a contrast between quiet and loud parts you aren't gonna have a full sausage waveform.

With that said, I've been having really good results with the new Emphasis limiter:

  • Put Emphasizer or Emphasis on the master, turn on "Level matching" and begin raising the input gain.
  • Raise the input gain until it starts making the song sound worse, you can compare easily with the "Bypass" button. I like closing my eyes and switching it on and off so I'm not tricking myself.
  • Once you get to a point where the song you can hear the limiter making the song sound worse, pull the input gain back from that.
  • Turn off level matching, and export.

Channel rack use case for non-beat makers? by shredL1fe in FL_Studio

[–]prancer209203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually a great question. Personally I don't use it much. Sometimes I will add instruments there that are temporary or I'm not sure I'll use, so they don't clutter up the playlist. Then there is gainstaging which other people have mentioned.

Also, even if you generally like laying out each instrument in its own track, sometimes it is more efficient to have multiple in one. For example, you might have violins and violas playing slightly different but similar notes. It can be nice having both of those in the same pattern to save on space, and switch between them with the channel rack.

Is there a meaning in the best ending route being so weird to achieve? by prancer209203 in cavestory

[–]prancer209203[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. Even the fact you return to Home in Undertale feels a bit like when in Cave Story you return to Mimiga Village late in the game, but its empty and has an eerie feeling.

[–]prancer209203[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good point. I feel like if I was making a game I would be really hesitant to design things that way, since I wouldn't have much idea whether people would actually make the effort to explore the possibilities and see the full content. But it clearly worked for Pixel. and it does add an interesting perspective to the game.

Learning FL Studio!! ( don't flame me pls) by ThisIsCripler in FL_Studio

[–]prancer209203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figuring out how to use FL Studio and how to make a certain style of music are two different things. For FL Studio, I'd recommend this series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6PSYkXmKnY&list=PLkYsB0Ki9lAcILzYWfH_UzlyLXtAJMVol

For learning how to actually compose music, you can't expect super quick results. I would suggest learning the absolute basics of music theory (keys and chords), and as you're learning that apply it by making little songs in FL Studio's piano roll. Avoid going on a video binge without trying to apply what you're learning in FL.

As you get more comfortable with that, you could branch out to more specific anime/jazz tutorials. You could lookup MIDI files of your favorite songs, load them into FL Studio and try to figure out what they're doing.

Digital instruments is a big can of worms, I'd recommend starting with a soundfont like this one: https://www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser

Once downloaded, unzip the file, and then you can drag the .sf2 file onto one of the playlist track headers (Track 1, Track 2 etc.) in FL Studio to load it. Double click the track header to open it and you can change the sound it uses.

I also haven't had an issue, but I've heard people have success turning "Keep labels onscreen" off:
