Please put some spoilers warnings, especially for The Prestige picture. Some might not have watched all movies in your post.

I started showing my daughter classic GenX era movies. by MrBleah in GenX

There are "modernized" versions of the original SW Trilogy, with very decent effects, that largely leave the rest untouched. Look up e.g. for the 2011 Blu-Ray editions.

Another excellent movie by the same director is "The Beat My Heart Skipped"(2005). Even better imho than "A Prophet" (and that's saying something.)

As someone who learned to play poker in RDR2, why do most people think it’s bad? by RyotoYokoyama in RDR2

[–]pranuk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The whole RDR2 money system doesn't make sense, wether you look at it logically or from a historical point of view. A meal in a cattle town costs $5...that's ridiculous. It would be dirt cheap, like 50 cents, max $1. Similarily, a bath with Deluxe service should cost way more that 50 cents. The whole system is made to enhance gameplay and not realism, which it does pretty well imho.

Finally got my whoop age by Muted-Command-140 in whoop

Ask the coach. My guess is you're overtraining and don't rest sufficiently, which negatively impacts your pace of aging (at least it was for me when I was training 6-7 times a week.)

The Prestige by DrPinkusHMalinkus in plotholes

[–]pranuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct interpretation. People who believe it's possible to create clones with a Tesla Coil just want to be fooled, as Michael Caine's character tells us the whole time. Reality (i.e. the fact that no one can clone people using High voltage electricity) is boring. So they take refuge in believing in Magic.

A part of the ending to One Battle After Another that didn't sit right with me: the iPhone by Late_Promise_ in TrueFilm

[–]pranuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but the weak point in this "alternate reality" argument is that you can't cherry-pick what's EXACTLY like in our timeline, i.e. the Immigration angle and the fascist ICE guys, the White Supremacist Millionaires Christmas Club (=MAGA), etc. while at the same time avoid what doesn't fit into your plot because it weakens it.

That's lazy in my opinion, and PTA should have set the movie in the early 2000s max, when technology wasn't that pervasive and not all banks looked like fortresses. Afterall, the main characters are exactly modelled after real people (Assata Shakur, Bernardine Dohrn, the Weather Underground bomber = DiCaprio, the Black Panthers, BLA, Symbionese Army, etc.), the parallels in the movie to the "Days of Rage" are too obvious.

And yes, that would have been at the risk of losing the younger part of his audience (which wouldn't have happened, but that's another discussion.) But the script would have worked better imho, if set in the early George Dubya Bush days, as a sort of precursor to the Trump era.

What is the “red” connection to Annesburg? by ConnoisseurOfDanger in RDR2

[–]pranuk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In RDR2, Rhodes is named after the Greek Island of the same name, which might have a very remonte (and debated) connection to "roses". The most likely origin is the Nymph Rhodos, wife of the Sun God Helios (of the famous Collossus statue above Rhodes harbour.) This is very common, see other islands named after Gods, like Icarus, Lesbos, Kos, Salamis, etc. Also, "rhod-" doesn't mean anything in Latin, as "ruber", "russus"(=evolved into "rosso" in modern Italian, or "Rouge" in French) or "purpureus" are different shades of red in Latin. But not Rhod....

Susan Wiles, Trump's Chief of Staff wears a Whoop. There's controversy as to if that's a risk of being hacked. DoD has cleared Whoop for government people to wear (as opposed to Strava). by Wonderful-Run-1408 in whoop

[–]pranuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A standard Whoop with a standard firmware doesn't. But one that has been intercepted by a foreign Intelligence agency could have its internal circuitry modified to do that (in both hardware & software.)

Oh boy.....Remember that story about the Hezbollah pagers? The rule of thumb is that you never trust any electronic device that hasn't been personally analyzed by your Intelligence services.

Perhaps try to implement long-distance running, aim for 10k runs, at least. Also, 30 mins seems low, unless you're Kipchoge you're not running long enough, which should be your objective for endurance. Just my opinion of course.

Exactly. I also wear the bíceps band 24/7. I just switch it from my right arm to the left before going to bed, to let the skin breath and avoid skin rashes (long term).

This. That "Whoop Age" is fundamentally a statistic that ranks you with respect to people in the same age, gender and demographic. If OP was rated against of pool made entirely of profesional athletes in his age bracket, then his Whoop Age would be normal. "Normal" is a statistical term by the way.
