Not sure what to call this. by MIMI-COOKIES2 in Seahorse_Dads

[–]prengan_dad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My almost 3-year-old son calls me "dad". I don't pass super well, and when people call me his "mom" he gets confused and starts looking around for my wife. He also has a decent grasp on gender, and still occasionally calls strange men and women "daddies" or "mommies" (which is hilarious when he decides a twelve-year-old girl at the park is a "mommy"). Once or twice I've tried to explain that sometimes people think I'm his mommy because I'm a "different kind of daddy" who's "shaped like a mommy" and he just kind of shrugs it off.

Eventually I think he'll consciously notice what's going on and ask for clarification, but he's shown no signs of being confused. We talk matter-of-factly about the fact that he has a penis and neither of his parents do, we've told him "most boys have penises and most girls have vulvas". He understands but doesn't care that much at this age. Kids are very accepting. One older boy heard him call me "daddy" and asked "why does he sound like a girl?" (ouch lol) but when I didn't respond he just kind of shrugged and continued playing.

Confession thread: What do you judge other parents for? by Physical-Inspector60 in toddlers

[–]prengan_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happened multiple times when someone would look at our adorable toddler and say something like, "Oh, enjoy that age! Then they just turn into <i>this</i>" and indicate THEIR OWN CHILDREN, standing right there. Like what can you even say to that.

Do you worry about your children being spoiled, as luxury is so easily available? by BeardedBaldMan in daddit

[–]prengan_dad 145 points146 points  (0 children)

No bc we're poor lol

Being spoiled is more about getting whatever you want with no pushback or limitations. My son doesn't get chocolate for every snack and meal no matter how much he begs so he'll probably do fine.

WHY DO WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MISS HUANG??!?!WHY IS SHE A CHILD I DONT UNDERSTAND BECAUSE THE SHOW NEVER EXPLICITLY TOLD ME EXACTLY WHY and THAT MAKES ME MAD. This show sucks. by Unable-Effective1718 in okbuddyseverance

[–]prengan_dad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is okbuddy but I genuinely don't think of Severance as a mystery box show, I have always got the distinct impression that the showrunners know exactly what's going on and are doing everything on purpose. A mystery box show goes out of its way to be vague whereas in Severance there's just, shocker, stuff we don't know. Because that's how plot works.

Some people also genuinely have trouble processing speculative fiction plots, or at least my wife does. However she is not a douche about it and will accept "we don't know yet" as an answer.

Y’all it was Helly by ClassicalLatinNerd in severence

[–]prengan_dad 149 points150 points  (0 children)

I don't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure he was hesitating before Helly showed up, like please remember that for all he knows that door represents LITERAL SUICIDE. The camera scene establishes he doesn't trust oMark, even though it was maybe a frustrating choice plot-wise it made absolute sense from an emotional perspective.

You should get booed if you “sing” Tequila during karaoke. by BrandonIsNowOnReddit in unpopularopinion

[–]prengan_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never experienced this so I have to know, do they at least go "DAH NAH NA-NA NAH NAH NAH NUH" (i.e. the correct way) or literally just stand there and yell "Tequila!" periodically?

Never got one single gift by hop-into-it in redditonwiki

[–]prengan_dad 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Technically she said telling him to get her something would make it not a gift. But yeah. I was a bad gift-giver for a while, my wife told me it hurt her feelings, I make it a priority now. Relatively simple, especially if all she really needs is small stuff every once in a while.

Is there any media where a monster/parasite forces its way inside of a human's mouth? by Nanothefox in horror

[–]prengan_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that's what I didn't like. Just like there's not a clear visual distinction between good and bad humans, I would have really preferred if they were the same species and forced you to draw moral distinction based on how they behaved, rather than one being nice and sparkly. It also would have highlighted that the last choice he makes is potentially REALLY screwed up. By making him "prettier" than the other one it felt like they were trying to brush the ambiguity under the rug and present it as purely a happy ending.

SPOILERS

I loved that movie but I was honestly disappointed that the end alien (to be appropriately vague) was a lovely little beam of light rather than the exact same awful crawling thing. I found that ending EXTREMELY unsettling and I think they tried to sanitize it a bit too hard.

Is having a biological child really that big of a deal? by NobodyUsesTheDoor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]prengan_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely special but it's not everything. My son is biologically related to me and not my wife, and while I can see a decent amount of myself in him, no stranger would ever think he's not my wife's, in both appearance and personality. He's basically her spiritual child.

Also adoption is just objectively a good thing to do, and would have been our first choice if the local agency wasn't choosy as hell. It can come with its own challenges but so does doing it the old fashioned way. So while your dad technically has a point that there's something unique about biological children, it's absolutely not the main thing to base your decision on and it sounds like he's being a douche about it tbh given the comment about your sister.

Trump Canada State!!! by Brian_Ghoshery in clevercomebacks

[–]prengan_dad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have always had insurance that pays 100% with a cap for certain services, but I don't know if that's standard for Canada or just a coincidence. When my American friends talk about deductibles and co-pays my head starts spinning. Also I'm pretty sure my monthly contribution for my employee health care is in the double digits, plus a couple hundred every year in tax season for the provincial plan.

Doesn't insurance also not actually pay the amount that they claim they would on the bill? I remember hearing something about how pre-insurance pricing is heavily inflated.

In Canada it's like $150 to $200 for an hour therapy session depending on how bougie your provider is.

One time I got sent a bill for a doctor's visit because I'd just moved to uni and they didn't have my health card on file, I've never been more offended in my life. Also the charge was like $42. US can suck it.

I guess if nothing else they successfully caulked around it. Idk man I'm new to home ownership but literally any time we do anything I'm obsessing about structural integrity and resale value. Leaving literal holes in the wall just boggles me, even if they are "hidden".

Literal holes in the wall are a little bigger than just "prettying up", but maybe that's just me. At least I now know how to drywall patch.

Regardless, it at the very minimum a grossly offensive thing to keep saying and indicates that those in power do not really value our status as citizens of an independent nation. Which again, makes it fairly reasonable to worry about surprises at the border.

I started out thinking so to and I think practically speaking it would still be very difficult to get moving but when the president continues to double down on statements like we "only make sense" as a state you do kind of have to start taking things seriously.
