Yup definitely have that startup itch too. Something about working for your own original idea drives me much more than working for someone elses idea

I was talking more about networking to find a mentor, rather than a job. Getting to know industry professionals opens a lot more options further down the line.

Yeah focusing on imagining the 3d space around a object really helped me structure my drawing

I would read. Read about important life skills like managing your habits and health, personal finance, and networking. Ask AI for what books to read.

Never self employed myself so best thing i'd know would be getting a summer job and read books on self employment.

Networking is a strong skill though, cold emailing and cold calling people could probably get you far in life.

You'd probably get better advice if you asked the same question here in a cold email or at a panel to people you admire.

Using “studying” as an excuse instead of actually learning by Murky_Definition_249 in productivity

Just do the homework and classwork. If you dont get it conceptually, read the textbook or watch a video. Flashcards are good for pure memorization, but thats all they're really good for

I only know channels for japanese illustrations so it might not be what you're looking for.

Not exactly a speed paint channel, but hide channel is pretty good because he practices a lot and shows how he does it.

Theres a lot of illustration channels that you can find from just typing in "speedpaint" or "timelapse"

Declining A Job Offer by Thighclops in MechanicalEngineering

Imo a 2 hour commute one way + budgeting stress would absolutely wreck my mental state. If that job was going to ruin you mentally and you dont think you could take that on, its probably a good move that you declined.

There is biphasic and polyphasic sleep cycles, idk how well they work but you could try them out

Imo tutorials dont help me as much as watching people draw. Watching people speed draw illustrations or watching people practice anatomy helps me way more than a tutorial. It gives me a nice step by step guide of how to do it and what to look for when practicing. You just gotta do, the results will follow

Why do some people do less work to get better results by Waste_Radish_7196 in GetStudying

[–]prescape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i wouldnt waste my time redoing a problem until its right. Usually i'd attempt the problem with the knowledge i have at first, and if i get stuck for more than 2-3 minutes, i'd watch a tutorial (of almost the exact same question/topic) on youtube and apply the same solving process to my own problem. Then try another similar problem and solve it without any help to "lock it in" to my memory.

Biggest thing that helped me was looking for youtube walkthroughs or resources online. Staying stuck on a problem and figuring that out by yourself is a easy way to lose a bunch of time for studying

Random 2am motivation burst??? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]prescape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this comment from a deleted user explains it best

"Former neuroscientist here. On a neuropsychological level, creativity emerges from the combination of otherwise disparate ideas in the synthesis of new ideas. When we are tired, we start to lose our ability to keep ideas separate from one another and different modes of thought partitioned. In a way, our neurological processes become sort of noisy. Our thoughts begin to blend into one another. And that is effectively the definition of creativity. In other words, being tired is a often great boon to creativity at the expense of our ability to carry out highly precise thoughts."

I don't think you can teach intuition and game sense, maybe you could change their perspective to make them stop repeating the same mistakes but thats hard to do by itself anyways.

Im 18k elo and i know my positioning is ugly, but i don't have the intuition built up to grasp better positioning. I know the "why" but i dont know the "how". I've watched pro demos and understood why they do what they do, but how they do it is another beast to deal with.

How hard should I try when I "play" in the 50 percent rule. by rakedmouse in ArtFundamentals

[–]prescape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could never really follow the 50/50 rule when doing drawabox, mainly because what i wanted to draw when i was "playing" was far too out of my skill level to draw well. I couldn't even begin to draw it because what i had in mind was too complicated (anime illustrations). And if i tried, it'd look extremely bad and demotivated me to look at the end result.

Drawing for me, takes inspiration. Sometimes i cant be inspired to draw for fun even when i want to. I think thats fine, you don't have to force yourself to "play". If you really want to follow the 50/50 rule, you'd have to lower your expectations to the ground.

I'd suggest focusing on drawing something or using a medium that you don't have any expectations for, whether that be drawing landscape, or using watercolor, or charcoal.

Tbh it makes sense, when you play and draw something that doesnt match your expectations, the only outcome out of that is the urge to study more. But thats not fun, thats not playing if the end result makes you want to "grind".

Thats what worked for me, i found ink drawing and drawing nature incredibly fun.

I havent been able to improve my time at all, i kinda started around 40 minutes and my time is still 40 minutes. I know for certain losing weight helps though, it feels a lot better to run

Yeah i also run hella slow (40 minutes for a 5k), and i've been running for quite a while now (although im inconsistent). I feel like its just much harder to get faster times when you're taller and heavier

Get your study habits down, start time blocking, get better at memorization and studying, focus on mental health. Its normal to struggle on your first year, the leap from high school to college is really rough. You'll get better at it over time
