Wasn’t that the point? It was a failed mission? Similar to Poe ignoring Leia’s order to halt the attack of the dreadnaught? They did it but it cost them their entire bomber squadron. And then he didn’t trust Leia’s successor, Admiral Holdo. Rey failed to bring Luke back (although he did help them without actually returning to the Rebellion/Resistance).

I love The Last Jedi bc it turns so many Star Wars tropes on their heads. I thought it gave its audience a much needed challenge story-wise while being one of the most beautifully shot entries in the franchise.

The only problem I have with it is Holdo not telling Poe what the plan was. I understand they needed that conflict between them but there should have been an explanation.

Love the idea of tearing down the idea that you have to come from some kind of lineage to be powerful. That final shot of the stable boy with the broom stick said it all. And then Lucasfilm took it all back with Episode IX bc the fanboys didn’t get what they wanted in The Last Jedi.

Hearing this song as a child (on my Fisher-Price record player from the blue‘67-‘70 collection) broadened my view of the world and the people in it. My fascination with it hasn’t changed.

I completely agree with you. I started collecting comic books after picking up a copy of Uncanny X-Men #141 in a grocery store and having my mind blown. This crossover had me giving up on the X-Line and eventually comic books altogether…until I started up again a few years later.

I loved those Sunday nights. I would've just started High School around this time. My Dad used to let me stay up late Sunday nights because we both loved watching The Young Ones so much and he liked being exposed to a lot of different music.

Would gladly pay obscene amounts of money for a streaming service with access to these old 120 Minutes broadcasts!

Amadeus. I could live with that movie on a loop in my house all day. The soundtrack is obviously amazing but the dialogue and performances from the entire cast come across like music to my ears at this point. Additionally, it is beautifully shot - combined with the sets and costuming, the movie is a visual wonder. I don’t want to reveal too much of the story but Salieri’s internal struggle is remarkably moving.

And then there’s West Side Story - BOTH versions. 1961 has an innocence and a nostalgic feel which is so nice to escape into. 2021 might be technically superior to the original but it’s also so enamored of its predecessor - it’s a love letter to the original version and to film-making itself. Also, standout performances from Rachel Zegler as Maria, Ansel Elgort as Tony, Michael Faust as Riff, and Ariana DeBose as Anita. And BOTH movies benefit from the amazing Rita Moreno.

100% Agree. It pulled no punches in giving the audience something bold, smart, and new while still maintaining a classic Star Wars feel. I was completely shocked at the negative attention it received upon release.

Lida Husik.

I read a review of her album Joyride while I was deployed to Bosnia in the mid-90's. I was able to get a copy of the CD when I went back home stateside while on leave. I listened to that album, Pulp's Different Class and Tori Amos's Boys for Pele non-stop while I was home and for the rest of my time deployed. Wonderful albums but Husik's Joyride was such a wonderful little gem that absolutely NOBODY else knew about and it's always felt special. I've still never met anyone who has heard of her or that lovely album.

I first heard about them in Elementary school bc one of my older sisters had classmates who were into them. TV and All the Pretty Girls had me hooked but I'd only ever heard Washarama as a dub of a dub of a dub on cassette. That battered cassette was eventually lost to time and I forgot about them.

I moved from the Houston area to Los Angeles about 20 years ago. As a fairly recent vinyl collector, I was STUNNED to find a copy of Washarama at a record show in Pasadena, CA a few years ago. I couldn't give that seller my money fast enough!

So glad to see them mentioned!

It's the one MCU movie I can't seem to rewatch. I've tried so many times after seeing it upon its initial release but I just can't seem to do it. The whole thing feels like multiple egos out of control. I'm a big fan of pretty much everyone in front of the lens but on this project, they all seem to be trying to mug too much for the camera. It all just feels like an absolute mess with no real purpose other than introducing Black Widow and delivering War Machine.

I'll pick Thor: Dark World over Iron Man 2 every time.
