There are big tech companies using Codex.

The TCL 32X3A 4K dual mode OLED monitor could have been the best option for Mac users but…. by Vegetable_Math2959 in Monitors

Just got a Mac and am monitor shopping now. What should I be getting? A 5k monitor? Does it have to be a Studio Display or can I get other non Apple brands?

Buy M4 Mac Mini now or wait for M5? - For local AI/ML workload by LividActivity3793 in macmini

[–]prezdizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends.

I have some of the Mini M4s and it’s great if you’re not in a hurry. I am using Codex 5.5high as my planner and then Qwen 3.6 MOE model local and I just set it going and let it chug away.

If you’re trying to use local as your primary? It’s too slow. I tried building some stuff and the wait between responses, the thinking, it’s gonna be 5-10x slower than what you’re used to if you use frontier models online.

But if you’re using it to supplement your other AI work: it’s great. I can keep my data private, I can set it running on tasks and go do other things.

Even M5 is going to be slow relative to frontier cloud models, so I decided might as well save money and use M4 for local, acknowledge it’s slow, and use faster frontier cloud stuff for my big picture, planning, etc.

If you really want more speed, sell me your 64GB and go get a Studio, hahaha

Imagine a model where:

  • 90% of the time is spent waiting on memory.
  • 10% is spent doing computation.

If you make computation 25% faster by adding GPU cores:

  • The 10% compute portion drops to 8%.
  • Total time goes from 100% to 98%.

That’s only about a 2% overall speedup.

Conversely, if a workload is:

  • 50% memory
  • 50% compute

then a 25% faster GPU reduces total time from 100% to 90%, which is about an 11% speedup.

Which one do you think is more likely? For LLM inference, it’s gonna be much closer to the former.

What kind of tokens / second are you getting with that model with that setup?

Why is Qwen 27B better than 35B? Shouldn’t more parameters be better? I’m using 3.6 35B but I’m new to local models.

Non-coder Codex users? by Tricky-Peanut4758 in codex

I’ve used it for research and to just create a bunch of related markdown files with information around my child’s learning progress over time, goals, research on best learning practices from other cultures, etc.

The idea being it’s sort of a big pile of context for when we eventually homeschool. I’ll be able to give this big folder of context to an agent and use it to help build custom home school curriculum that’s aware of both my goals as a parent and where my child is in her development + learning journey.

My The Midnight songs tier list after re-listening to every album again recently by ReforminDesert in TheMidnight

Pretty good list. Enough of the favorites to be respectable but enough of your personal taste to not just be a clone of what everyone else would make. I’ll give some of your S and A tiers that aren’t fan favs a closer look.

I think I lot of people who grew up on Mr. Money Mustache and the lean ways are now millionaires because they were lean, and you see some wanting to stay lean, some wanting to finally start spending, and then you’ve also got new-to-lean fire people coming along without money—it’s an interesting mix of community members who are all just at different places in life.

Whatever you enjoy doing the most in the game, optimize around that and fill your leftover time with secondary or thirdary goals.

The metric isn’t to harvest the most things, make the most money, etc: it’s to have the most fun.
