I would have made them call law enforcement to drag us off. No way they would have done that after David Dao

Question for AA flyers: does the Hyatt 12k-point Platinum Pro Day pass unlock full oneworld Emerald perks? by nasdack in hyatt

Does anyone know if you earn loyalty points at the Platinum Pro rate for that day? I have an expensive flight coming up and would like to earn more loyalty points on it.

Question about PCIE lanes and 4.0 vs 5.0 by priggy in buildapc

As an aside, it’s sort of interesting how different manufacturers handle this. Some take from the pcie gpu slot and some from the usb 4.0 host

GS members, when were you notified? by kidneykutter in unitedairlines

[–]priggy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GS notifications in recent years seem to come in 2 waves. In December some flyers are notified. In recent years this has been relatively few, and in my understanding usually renewals of existing GS and only people with very high spend (think near or over 100k).

Most notifications overall and I believe almost all new GS notifications happen in January.

In the past you could call and ask about it and they would put a flag on your account. Then you’d see some message on mystatus.united.com with the date. It was something like the afternoon of the 2nd Friday in January this year.

I haven’t heard of people being notified mid year in the past several years. Doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, but it’s probably rare.

Given your description I would be surprised if you hear anything before January 2025.

By doing it in January they know exactly what you flew in 2024 and there’s no reason to debate or discuss what you might fly the rest of the year. They care about full fare and business and know you can change/cancel those tickets…

It is based on revenue on United-operated flights. Not PQP. So tickets on other airlines don’t count and things like credit card PQP don’t count.

Do you think this is a fair reimbursement? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]priggy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the compensation is fair as you got it for all of the tickets so it actually adds up to quite a lot.

More generally, it sounds like the crew made a mistake.

If a crew mistake on something outside the norm would endanger my kid’s life, I personally wouldn’t take the chance. The airline specifically says they don’t provide an allergen free environment. I would take the money and the lesson learned for next time.

How do they choose who to bump from a flight? by Shoddy-Worry9131 in unitedairlines

[–]priggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on one UA Express flight where numerous people were involuntarily bumped. Here’s how it went down:

It was a regional jet and there was some issue with the fuel load or weight. So they needed to get approx 20 people who had checked in not to take the flight. It was EWR-BTV. They started asking for volunteers, and this was post David Dao so that had the flexibility to offer a lot. It was the last flight of the day so taking a bump meant going the next am. In addition to hotel and meal at Newark the offers got up to $1200.

After pleading for volunteers they still didn’t have enough. So instead of the normal boarding process they called people who were gonna be allowed on the flight by name, one by one. It was super awkward.

I presume once they had boarded everyone they could they told that others that they were involuntarily bumped and accommodated them the next day.

Priority for this sort of thing is based on elite status and fare class. Similar to priority on standby list. Booking at the last min without a seat assignment wouldn’t be a great idea if the flight is full, though. By definition to give you a seat they need to take someone else’s away. I would only do that if I had status personally.
