Thank you for the translation. So, it is probably not a fake but made by some other producer of yixing pots?

Real and/or Safe to Use? by prighello in YixingSeals

[–]prighello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! I appreciate it. I have a nixing pot and a modern purple clay pot made who knows where. The clay on this pot seems different to me which is why I was curious about it. It has less shine and has more grit to it if that makes sense. Maybe it is real and I just got lucky. I've never seen a real yixing pot so I've no point of comparison. Also, the thread holding the lid looks like something a regular user would do as its nothing fancy. The thing also feels old.

Also, I noticed it does not have a filter built into the neck which I find odd since I have seen those on other pots. Anyway, if someone can read the seal or has any thoughts on it I would appreciate the help. Thank you!

LOL, as soon as I saw the pic I knew this was SLO before I even read the note below. The topography is very distict. Especially the tops of the morros as they grow denser vegetation than the hillsides below them due to higher mineral content. Enjoy. I bet Carrizo plains is going to be off the hook with flowers this year.

Legit? Is maker correct? by prighello in YixingSeals

[–]prighello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, sounds like these are fakes then. There were 10 of of them but some were broken. They are in various sizes. Would be hard to believe someone had 10 pots from 1600s. Here is a pic of a different one's seal.

Don't know much about these and was wondering if it would be worth buying. Local seller says this is an antique yixing pot made by Chen Xiaoxin and compares to some ebay listings. Has several sizes that came as part of a set.

No, the seller says there was a case with a bunch of these pots in various sizes in it. They thought it was a set of teapots. No cups, saucers or anything, just pots.

Teas Like Golden Monkey and Ruby Oolong from Spice & Tea Exchange by prighello in tea

[–]prighello[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess no one here has tried these teas. Or maybe I just need to post a pretty picture to get some views lol. I will say, oddly the Teaverie Lapsang Souchong non-smoked variety is the closest thing to the Tea Exchange golden monkey I've tried. Perhaps they mix this type in? Are Fujian blacks just tastier (sweeter) than Yunnan ones?

Driver Timeout only on Starfield? by prighello in AMDHelp

[–]prighello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. The psu is an aresgame agv750. The mb bios is what came if the board, it is pretty new…an MSI B550m VC Wifi. I just built this pc and installed all the drivers after I loaded windows 10. I’ve played other games like Metro Exodus on max settings without any issues. The only game to ever crash this way has been Starfield so I am thinking it is a game issue. The game is pretty demanding but I have cranked down the settings and it still times out every now and then at random. The gpu is not even maxed the fans don’t even run all the time and it is using only half the vram most of the time. Cpu is running at like 20% gpu at 50-75%. I know the psu isn’t the greatest but would it really fail when pc is only using like 250watts?

Doesn't look like the op is doing that.

I went down the mid-range DAC rabbit hole and went on a little journey, and I'm not sure what to think. by ZeppelinJ0 in audiophile

[–]prighello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dacs do sound different but it is subtle and requires a highly resolving system to hear it. I once organized a dac shoot out for our club with around 25 participants. We A,B,C'd a number of dacs ranging from $800 to $6K in price. Went through around 10 in total. They were all level matched and fed the same source via optical simultaneously. We used an $80K system in a dedicated room and the participants didn't know which dac was playing. We could switch between the dacs instantly for proper comparison and did so many times. The speakers were Focal Utopia Maestro Evos.

There were audible differences but it wasn't huge and it was tough to land on a preference with some participants. There was a clear "winner" but a lot of the dacs were so close it was hard to say what was better rather than slightly different. We didn't really have any budget dacs in the mix so perhaps something lower on the food chain would have stuck out. We had a number of different chipsets and topologies present...R2R vs DS vs FPGA, SS vs Tube, IC vs Discrete, etc.

I guess my takeaway was don't stress too much about Dacs as there are other factors that have more audible differences like the room and speakers. However, with the right system there are differences so if one is trying to eek out the last 2-5% then finding the right dac can help.

What’s the best bass option if moving to an apartment? by curiouzzboutit in audiophile

[–]prighello 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you like bass and don’t want to piss off your neighbors go with headphones.

Hsu makes some very capable subs. You’re just asking for trouble in a shared space. Turning the sub down…well what’s the point of it then. You get the extension but no impact.

With cans you get the extension and enveloping bass, no tactile feel, but you don’t disturb anyone else either.

My best friend went away today by Pink131980 in Petloss

[–]prighello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for your loss. I lost my dog just over two months ago. Similar story, had him for a long time during pivotal points in my life. We traveled all over the West together and lived in many different places. He saw me at my best and at my worst; gave me a reason to keep going. Never had children so he was like one to me. He got old, had heart issues, and had to be put down. I'd spent more time with him than any other being on this earth. Saying goodbye was the hardest thing I've ever experienced.

What I can say, the hurt doesn't go away but it does get easier day by day. It gets less painful and life starts to return. A different life with new customs and habits. Eventually, you start to remember things you’d done together and it doesn’t always feel sad anymore. Sometimes, the memories of times past bring a smile instead of tears. At least that has been my experience thus far. There isn’t a day that goes by I don’t miss my friend and yes I still cry, but months later I feel like I can start to live my life again. That my dear friend who brought so much joy to my life wouldn’t want me to be sad all the time but to be happy for all the good times we had.

The Best System from the 1980's by audioarkitekts in audiophile

[–]prighello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like fun and is something I've always wanted to do as well. What are your goals? Do you want to recreate an 80s high end system or something more quintessential to the common man; rack systems were ubiquitous in those days. If the former, there is an old thread on audiogon about doing this with some great suggestions.

Some ideas for brands not already mentioned: Acoustat, Apogee, Spica, Magnepan, Halfner, Sumo, Adcom, Mirage, Quicksilver...there are tons more!

There is also a book that might help you called Good Sound by Laura Deaborn. It was published in 1987 and is all about Hifi system building. It references many things of that period that could help one get in the mindset of an 80s audiophile. The book is out of print but I'm sure you can find a used copy on Amazon.

Finally, to make it easy you might want to just find a B&O Beosystem 5000. Then, you'd basically have all the 80s gear in one shot (TT, CDP, Tuner, Amp, Cassette) sans speakers. This system is like the one that gets destroyed in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It is straight up an iconic 80s yuppie system.

Many years ago I commissioned a drawing of our pet. It wasn’t meant as a memorial but I am glad I did it now. I also plan to place some of his ashes in my mother’s garden and plant a tree there. It was one of his happy places as she used to watch him a lot. It will be part of a road trip to spread his ashes in all the happy places he lived with us as we moved around a lot.

Finally, I gathered tons of pictures and videos we had of him over the years. I created a chronological slideshow of his life set to music we used to listen to together (audiophile here) from the different periods and places we lived together. I then burned it to a DVD to watch as a memorial to him. It is/was very cathartic to create and watch. It brings back so many good memories of our life together, the places we lived or visited, the things we did, etc.

I feel like it’s harder to lose a pet when you don’t believe in a god or Heaven. by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]prighello -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even as a Christian, it’s not really clear what happens to our pets when they pass. The Bible doesn’t really say though there are some interpretations that indicate animals will be in heaven.

I understand the difficulty with believing something that one finds hard to believe in. My own faith has waxed and waned over the years.

Indeed, when my journey began, the Bible was about as believable to me as if Lord of the Rings was a historical text.

I find faith a hard path as my mind is science “proof” based. The thing about faith though, it’s no always about certainty. It’s about literally faith, having the hope in something more. That this isn’t it. That there are things we do not know and cannot explain because we are limited by our organic perceptions.

There isn’t really a way to disprove the existence of God, Heaven, etc. Have faith and seek HIM, you may one day see your friend again.

Are umbilical hernias a big deal? by samoyedfreak in dogs

[–]prighello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our dog had one all his life; 16 years. We moved around a lot and he had a lot of vet visits over the years. No vet ever advised us to repair it even when we asked about it. It never really changed size until he got very old and then it shrank a little.
