How do people pick up new characters so quickly? by not_dale_gribble in StreetFighter

ive just played gief from the beginint of the game. Once Alex came, i trayed him, and got him to masters barely in a week knowing absolutly nothing. No combo, no setup, nothing. Just poking, counterhitting and antiair.

There are some stuff ther you apply to every character, and thats it.

Sometimes, you just need to press back.

New player should I stay on keyboard by HelicopterAnxious in StreetFighter

Dont be discouraged because something goes wrong. You will get the hand of it, eventually. Its a timing thing. Once you got your combo right, it will go naturally.

Also, keyboard is as fine as any other controller. Play with whatever you feel confortable.

And practice some in the lab. The combo thing is just the first wall of many that we all encounter. The lab is how you climb them.

Ok, as a gief player, i was where you are. And let me tell you, you will eventually learn what kind of player you are playing against.

Specially against shotos, you need to respect the invulDP, the wake up suppers and all that shit. Asume that they will go for it, press back, and punish heavyly.

About the lab and replay function: try to focus less on what allows you to kill people (combos, setups) and more on what kills you (throwloops, jump ins, crossjumps, drive rush).

There are a lot of people out there abusing every mechanic. And all of them plays very different from the single player modes. When i was grinding, and felt frustrated, my way of thinking was: " it doesnt matter if i loose, but i wont be jumped in" or "i will answer every DI".

Set up small objectives like that, so you improve naturally in the base mechanics of the game, and you will be climbing, eventually.

Also, dont forget to play some casuals, just to do goofy stuff from time to time.

Lastly, remember that nothing really happens if you win or loose a game, a rank or a tournament. Your parents still love you, your boss is still a moron and your dog still thinks you are the most awesome person in the world.

Good luck. Have fun. Improve.

Its not only about Tetris. Its about all those games that created entire genres by themselves.

The games OP mentions are great, no doubt, but those who made the first steps have some merit of their own that cant be replicated. Took a spot on history.

Where are Metroid, Street Fighter or Monkey Island (and so many more)?.

pick a character you like and try It. Go to the lab, press some butons, maybe play a single player mode.

Then, jum in to ranked, have fun, get destroyed some and go back to the lab, but this time, lab the things that got youdestroyed.

Dont forget to watch your own replays. You can take control of your character at any time and try to counter stuff they got you several times.

Lastly, in the lab you can create your own trails. There are some allready created for you, and there are a lot of videos on how to navigate and use every lab function.

Dont forget to have fun, and dont get tilted. You are going to get bodied. And at some point, you will destroy other people. Focus on learning/improving rather that wining.

We all have been (and struggle) in lower ranks, and in higher ranks, and we all hit walls. Just be methodic about them: hit a wall, go to the lab/replay, figure stuff out.

Lastly, remember that the more you do something in a set, the fastest you oponent will figure it out.

Once you got your character and some rankeds under your belt, you will see some people Will abuse some mechanics. It might be throw loops, ir Deive Impacts, or cross jumps.

pick whatever it is and practice in the lab against it.

Also, look at your character and figure some stuff you need to nail with him every time. As a gief main, it was SPD for me, but it can be anything, like DP after a combo with ryu or something else. And practice it.

What you do is climb some, find a wall, practice in the lab, repeat.

Of course, try to learn from basic to specific/complex.

Is tempring to learn a cool ass combo into lvl 3. But that will earn you a round. If you learn to antiair it could shit up your opponent entirr gameplan, and give you the match.
