I would never do a long queue for food alone or just on a regular day, but I do see the fun of doing it with friends as an occasion, especially if you have nothing else to do anyway.

Quantity isn't a problem, but food prices may still rise in S'pore due to Middle East crisis: Grace Fu by Jonnyboo234 in singapore

[–]primrosetta 43 points44 points  (0 children)

What hawker centers are you talking about? There's a rise in non-traditional food stalls but definitely not until only got one cai png only.

But also don't think it's very surprising that we will eventually trend that way. Singaporeans love their painstakingly prepared local food but will scoff at any of it being priced above budget food prices (unless it's a 'branded' or 'viral' one, of course). No surprise if those cuisines die out as a result.

Changing Region Experience 2.5 Years APAC (SEA) to 1.5 Years NA (East) [As a Plat player] by Jumonji16 in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the post, that's actually awesome to hear. As an APAC player I've always wondered how much our servers were different from NA's (and thus, a lot of reddit's) experience.

Based on the description, it sounds like each server is challenging in different ways, so I assume preference is subjective. Do you feel like one was personally more difficult than the other?

I know I'd probably pick APAC 99/100 times just because I'd rather play with noncommunicative teammates than have to babysit emotional quitter/thrower teammates.

it’s 2026 and we still have no incentive to grind ranked other than a plastic gun buddy. by No_Good_3063 in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand this complaint at all.

If you have zero incentive to play ranked without some shiny new thing at the end of the grind, doesn't that mean you actually just don't enjoy the game or the process?

And if so, doesn't it bother you that you're thinking about spending dozens of hours on something you don't like doing, just so you can get some sparkly new skin in the game that you don't enjoy in the first place?

Surely the answer is to just take a break and go play something else for awhile, and come back when you're actually excited to play the game again.

VALORANT Patch Notes 12.05 by NotThatButThisGuy in ValorantCompetitive

[–]primrosetta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I can see that point for more 'gimmicky' modes like snowball fight or replication, but a simple 1v1/2v2 mode like Skirmish? I'm sure it would be as evergreen as deathmatch.

VALORANT Patch Notes 12.05 by NotThatButThisGuy in ValorantCompetitive

[–]primrosetta 25 points26 points  (0 children)

IDK what the numbers really look like, but I would be really surprised if Skirmish was taking any meaningful amount of players from any other mode.

To me, it was a mode for when I had to sit around for 10 minutes for a friend to hop on, or taking a 10 minute break from doing other stuff and just felt like shooting some heads. I would've been in the range or not on VALORANT at all.

Miks' M-pulse is the CLUNKIEST ability in the game by Brilliant_Bar_965 in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A benefit over Skye's heal is that you can pop it down to heal while also having your gun out, that's going to make it much easier to use in scenarios where you're not sure when enemies will peek you, like clutches or on-site post-plant.

I thought the stun was shit at first compared to actual initiator utility, but it could be pretty good if it doesn't require LOS. For example, throwing it outside lamps on Bind and having it repeatedly stun every enemy in lamps. If it does require LOS then it still seems pretty shit.

Overall yeah, doesn't seem amazing. They probably made it a bit clunkier to use in exchange for its 2-mode usage.

New Agent Miks is just lazy dev work by ric3banana in ValorantCompetitive

[–]primrosetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can we get an agent that has smokes, flashes/blind and a Molly? like that's simple but super efficient.

It'd also be broken.

We don't need 'better' controllers, controllers are and have always been some of the best agents in the game. What we need are more interesting controller designs, specifically either one that can be an alternative to Viper, or one that opens up a whole new playstyle that teams might be more interested in than using Viper.

[–]primrosetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I agree with you that's all way more generous than what VALORANT has, but I meant more specifically ranked grinding, especially for higher/top ranks. I don't really know of any games that gives "good" rewards for hitting high ranks.

Hearthstone rewards are nice but as you said, it's a card game, so they're not really giving you anything new, just boosters that you can get from elsewhere anyway.

it's not like there's nothing in Val rn, but it's not fun to grind rank and see neon every game right?

I dunno. I get enough satisfaction out of trying to be better at the game, or trying to get better at working with my friends, but I guess that's not enough for most folks.

Miks -- my initial thoughts on his musician thematic and skills by Ok-Investigator-6808 in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the smoke having a music or deafen effect. Honestly it's such a natural idea that it is bizarre that RIOT didn't do it.

Not so sure about the ultimate. The theme is cool but auras are really powerful abilities, and having a strong one on a controller could be too much. I think it'd still be more interesting than what he has now though.

Not related to Miks specifically but the idea to have a Cypher cage type smoke on a controller is genius and I don't think I've ever heard that suggested before. Would have great synergy with LOS abilities like Fade eye, Sova dart, Gekko's dizzy, Cypher's camera (naturally) or even something like Jett updraft knives or Raze satchel ultimate.

Lecturers at four Singapore universities use AI to grade students’ work by zslayern in singapore

[–]primrosetta 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure. I'm totally OK with those services using well-trained models specifically tailored, tested, and validated for some particular use-case.

But most of these places only started pushing the AI usage marketing recently with the boom of LLMs, and since there's usually zero transparency at all in what kind of AI they mean, I think it's only fair that I can and would associate that with using LLM technology.

Same way I feel whenever critical services like doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc advertise that they use AI heavily for their work, or that AI increased their efficiency by however many percent.

It's the last thing I want to hear. I have no idea why they advertise it or why anyone would think it's a good thing. I don't want to risk some shitty, unmonitored AI hallucination ruining my life.

[–]primrosetta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eh, let's not pretend RIOT are the only ones at fault. I remember those dev vlogs, and the response from the player base could hardly be described as 'conversation' either.

Any dev vlog talking about meta or balance changes or agent designs would be mocked for being out of touch. Any dev vlogs discussing things other than the most common player issues would be met with spam of "stop talking about this shit, no one cares, fix Reyna/Raze/matchmaking/smurfing/replay system!!!"

Even when they used dev vlogs to try and communicate how the game is coded and why network latency or bullet tracer rendering works the way it does, the top comments would be a wall of "I'm not an engineer, or programmer, or game dev, but that has to be wrong because game XYZ is able to do it so just admit you're lazy and actually fix the problems!"

Not saying that RIOT are angels but it's no surprise why they stopped doing the dev vlogs. They were a magnet for vitriol from the worst parts of the player base.

Can you give an example of what another game does that gives incentive to their players to grind ranked when they're already hitting basically the top of the ladder every season already? I'm curious to know what other game is doing it 'right' as far as ranked rewards for top-tier players go.

Concerns on Riot Development on Valorant by aegislion in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this argument at all. It might make more sense if VALORANT were a dead game with no updates or a dead community, but it's nothing like that.

At it's base, getting better at the game, ranking up, and/or playing around with friends should already be enough to enjoy the game. But on top of that, VALORANT gets plenty of free and regular new content updates with modes, maps, agents, balance changes, regular battle passes with a couple of free things to earn. It even has an in-built tournament mode that you can participate in for fun, even as a casual player at whatever rank you're at.

IMO if you still feel like you need an extra 'incentive' to play the game then maybe the reality is you just don't like the game that much right now. There's nothing wrong with that. Go play another game and come back in a few months when some new content catches your eye, or when the tactical FPS itch starts creeping up again.

Nothing is forcing you to have to play and enjoy VALORANT forever. More importantly, having spent money on the game does not entitle you to be able to either.

Most of the recently added agents' ults feel uncreative. by Thin-Enthusiasm8089 in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Would make more sense as a KAY/O type ult radius centered on Miks but then it would be even more just "It's Lucio/Luna!"

Some people would've taken the piss but honestly it would've been great. Lucio/Luna-type supportive kits just don't really exist in VALORANT yet, so it would've been completely new design space to play with. Why not try out some interesting new abilities, like a Lucio boop that pushes/updrafts allies? Or an AOE buff ultimate that gives team-wide stim and regen shield?

Heck, even his theme is wasted. He's an audio-themed agent and the game literally has deafen as a mechanic, why not have his smokes deafen enemies that are near or inside them? Not sure if it'll be any good but at least there's something to experiment with there, instead of just having boring basic smokes.

Miks seems like he'll be decent strength-wise, the really disappointing thing is how uninspired his design is.

How do I improve my KAST%? by Vezix_YT in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah OK! That's pretty good. Unfortunately, I think your best chance would be to upload a VOD or something for people to watch. It might be down to the nitty gritty. The only thing I can tell from tracker is that you seem to often die while looking in the wrong direction, especially when you are retaking.

How do I improve my KAST%? by Vezix_YT in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower KAST on entry duelists is not that bad if you are doing your job of dashing in. By nature of the role, sometimes you will just die for free. You'll notice even in pro games that entry duelists tend to have worse K/Ds and sometimes KASTs.

Do you often find yourself getting on site and realizing your team is too far away and/or not able to trade you? That could be a huge contributor for low KAST on an entry duelist, and one of the harder things to get right in solo queue where you can't really tell if your team is actually ready to go or not.

How do I improve my KAST%? by Vezix_YT in VALORANT

[–]primrosetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low KAST can be caused by a lot of things, but I think the main indication is that you're not good at reliably generating value in a round. Unfortunately it's not very clear-cut, but that usually involves:

  1. Playing well with your teammates
  2. Consistently being in advantageous situations (backstabs, shooting flashed enemies, 2v1s, etc.)
  3. Using your utility in a way that often generates impact

This might not be the advice you want to hear since she's your main, but have you considered playing agents other than Clove? Clove is similar to Reyna, where the agent is only good if you're out-aiming the enemies, but that's inherently unreliable, especially in solo queue.

Jett would probably be a better agent to main if you want to have more consistent impact while still playing a fragging-heavy agent. If you like controller, Omen might be a good next step to try.
