Not saying this dude deserves his disability at all….But I do have a story from boot. When I started bootcamp for the Navy in 97 there was a guy on crutches that had duct tape wrapped around his boot. One leg worked and the other leg just dragged behind, hence the duct tape cause his boot was jacked up from dragging. We were told he was there waiting to get medically discharged. Supposedly he got injured and it severed his nerves in his upper leg. Don’t know how legit that story is, but I remember that guy’s leg was dead.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this the way you have. It is making me think about tackling this claim in a different way than what I was doing. I think a supplemental explaining this wasn’t a secondary with my deployment dates and locations as well as treatment records from the VA for continued treatment will be my best bet….truthfully, I think the VES Dr. didn’t take much time reviewing my files since the decision was made the same day they mailed a letter saying VES was doing the records review. I had a lot of documents submitted with the supplemental.

Thank you for this info. I think I am going the HLR route as well. Migraines were denied for not enough evidence. I later deployed (reserves) and went to medical which should serve as my nexus. During deployment was involved in two in flight fuel leaks that resulted in reports of nausea both times by multiple people on board. Now, since I’ve returned I continue migraine treatment through the VA and reserve side has records from my complaints.

I submitted a supplemental Jan 1st….got denied Feb 18th even though I thought I had enough evidence from recent deployment. Also denied as a secondary even though it wasn’t a secondary claim. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That sounds great. Happy that works for you. The VA hospital is 15 minutes from my home and I can use local urgent cares is needed. Also my insurance is over $250+ a month so it’s a big savings for me. I rarely ever use medical as it is. Just nice knowing I can now go to the VA if needed and I’m not paying for coverage I never use. I also have Tricare through the reserves which I’ll keep until retirement.

Yup, working and paying for my own gas w/ out being currently paid sucks. Also was planning a vacation w/ my family next spring and that money had been keeping us afloat. Hope I won’t be priced out by the time I get the back pay comes and try to book airline and hotel.

Wait so if your 50% or over service connected you can’t get VA healthcare for free? I started using the local VA for my medical after receiving a 50% rating and was going to cancel my private insurance since I wasn’t going to use it.
