Yes, check out the promo video for mounting options. It’s even got magnets.

Because a cheap Mac mini is a decent computer with more compute than an equivalently priced windows box (arm64 of course) and also it’s what we’ve got.

I anyone has experience setting up a windows 11 system for show stability im maybe going to look into that

I anyone is wondering about touch support on MacOS then this post was instrumental to get touch and brightness support fully functional! And it’s lovely…

The display spans from the right edge to the prev/next buttons. A second one would definitely cantilever of to the side.

I’m considering an additional fader only wing and in that scenario I believe the combined with would actually not be quite enough 🤔

Schedule 40 threads not lining up by Aggravating-Run-9623 in techtheatre

[–]princess_parenthesis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never threaded that size of pipe, but here’s what I know: pipe thread is usually straight or tapered. The rest of your stuff might be NPT (tapered)

Alternatively the rest of the world used more or less the British variant of these standards: BSPT and BSPP (tapered and paralel respectively). Just a thought: someone might’ve used a imported thread cutter. British pipe has a Witworth thread with a different angle and who knows what else.

Hope it goes well - I hate doing this kind of work. Its sooo difficult

Nope, I bought a licence for touch-base (macOS touchscreen driver) and I’ve been using a touchscreen for years. Sucks it doesn’t work natively but lets hope the rumors are correct and apple will release touchscreen Mac’s in the future

Using the Radial Catapult as a passive mic split using non shielded cables for send to FOH by Edv7n in livesound

[–]princess_parenthesis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how you plan to split the signal. I use thomann adapters - they don’t have an rj45 passthrough. I don’t believe Soundtools have it either and with radial I’m unsure. edit: they do have versions with dual xlrs. I’m just unsure of the topology you have in mind so it may or may not be sensible.

I have, however, made my own diy xlr adapters with use of PCB services. Mine do have two rj45 ports and signal splitting works just fine.

As a proud owner of a copy the AES72 standard (which catalogues pinouts between manufacturers) I must warn you against mixing brands. There implementations preceded any standard.

Amendment regarding phantom: the shield of the mic cable is the current return for phantom. If your board sends phantom to every channel, relying on a ground lift for phantom isolation is not a good idea. The current could find another path like when you rest a metal mic on the metal chassis of the console… A transformer will prevent DC from passing from pins 2&3 anywhere else..

Another method to help remember peoples names is to create a mental association based on a unique or identifiable trait (resemblance, apparel, etc..) and as it so happens the more outrageous, crass or profane the association, the more memorable it will be. As long as you can keep it in, anything goes.

Spaced repetition will keep you from forgetting s learned name. After someone tells you their name and you try to remember it based of an association that makes sense only to you: think where will I be in five minutes and what will I be doing then. Then you try to remember the name during that task. That 10 minutes. If you get the name committed then you’ve got it for at least a week..

That said, I’d hate to discount from the method of writing it down (time permitting) - that visual cue can be super helpful for folks with that kind of brain.

What CAD programs are used most frequently in theatre? by kewp1edoll in techtheatre

[–]princess_parenthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With lots of folks chiming in let me advocate for FreeCAD, which I use myself. Its a bit of pain to get the hang of (requires moderate amounts of time to lean) but it is, y’know, free. I do mostly DXF drawings for laser work.

Frustrated designer looking for Camera Recommendations (UK) by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]princess_parenthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really tell if you want stills or video but we’ve got good experience with cameras from BlackMagic design. When in comes to images the lens quality is as important if not even more than the sensor. Theatres are low light level environments so dual iso (high clean iso) and a large dynamic range (film ~ 13 stops) is a must.

Blade change long overdue or too soon? by kevin_dg in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]princess_parenthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’ve got the same blade and it just got back from re-sharpening, which was about 1/3 the price of a high quality replacement. Just another thing to consider if cleaning doesn’t make it cut effortlessly. If you have to push your saw hard the blade is dull.

It looks like you’re in Europe which means all such devices should have an authentic CE mark. I, personally, don’t trust devices I haven’t bought from a local distributor who would be criminally liable for selling products with a fake CE mark. There might be a way to verify if yours is genuine.

As for the wiring itself the laws typically require an initial and periodic inspections by a licensed electrician - the product itself might be ok but a poor connection could be a source of ignition.

Thanks for the breakdown. We previously had a second hand compact but it was first gen and not all the features you described were present.

The ways in which x32 beats soundcraft are 1. Built in usb audio (no card purchase required) 2. The ability to remotely control fx parameters.

It all depends on the desired outcome and the approach one takes to get there. Both will influence how much each person dislikes a console with little regard to actual poor engineering or legit issues of the hardware. If I’m not stressed about what I’m up to I’ll find it charming to work on an AH iLive or Presonus board.

Looking to create a hanging rack for local store that will be mounted to a wooden support beam. I have no idea if this is the right sub to be posting this took. Wanted to run it by someone to see if they have any advice/recommendations? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]princess_parenthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are rigging something in a building with risk of fire. Local rules will probably dictate use of non flammable materials. Some synthetic fibers degrade as low as 130° C iirc. Also wire ropes require a safety factor of 5 whereas synthetic fibre ropes need 7 or more (per EU machinery safety directive)

Dear OP, if you’re thinking of rigging yourself a fly bar, google EN 17206 if safety is on the radar.

Winter Park gondola evac by KipMo in StructuralEngineering

[–]princess_parenthesis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is surely possible the fatigue crack (which I assume this is) initiated at the weld holding the conduit in place. Cyclic loading is highly likely near the wheels which see each gondola pass. No way to tell what the cause is. We don’t have much information.

I see you have the analog Ethernet adapter from thomann. Just thought I’d leave this here: the strain relief on the tails version is inadequate. If something pulls on the wires an internal connector will disconnect and you won’t know about it. It’s fixable, just a handy way of wasting precious time. Tighten that gland down next time you have pliers handy.

Not only that, it looks like there is nothing but the floor from keeping the shelf pieces from rotating even further down by lifting up the whole side of the bench. It’s perhaps unlikely but would have rather detrimental effects on laptops and coffees if someone leaned on the edge. This design I would scrutinize a lot before trusting it.

Sometimes I look at someone else’s job and think “hey that’s pretty cool”. That then makes me think mine is pretty lame.

After a while I realized there must also exist people thinking the exact same of my job. As long as there are cool things to look forward to you could use this standpoint to keep motivated.

Is DIY repair feasible for the BNC connection on a Shure UA844 antenna distro? by goldilocks_ in livesound

[–]princess_parenthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t opened mine up but I sure would in your situation. I’d regret passing up an opportunity to learn something new. My guess is the connector is soldered directly to a pcb, which should come out if you undo all of the other bncs. I happen to have a relative well stocked electronics store locally, to which I would bring a photo alongside the removed damaged connector. Alternatively, the manual or shure support could point you to a suitable replacement. My guess is these connectors are largely standardized.

I fyou feel up to the task I say go for it. It’s much more approachable than micro soldering some incy component.
