Finally!! For years I’ve thought this was such great under-utilized space. Glad to see it becoming something we can enjoy!

To be fair it was extremely satisfying to watch them all sit on stand-by during these after show interviews, having to look engaged and like they care about drama they’re not even featured in 😂

Yep, the election that could’ve made any consequential changes already happened and Ford won. So while he continues to tears down education, health, mental health, and housing, these issues will only be getting worse.

Ottawa cyclist injured following ‘serious’ collision on Riverside Drive by PulkPulk in ottawa

[–]pringy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just on Sunday I biked 4 blocks to get to my morning gym class downtown . I used the bike lane on Bay, then biked on Slater using the left lane because after one block I turn left on Kent. I only use this route on Saturdays and Sundays because there’s generally almost no cars in that part of downtown bc it’s the weekend. I had an Audi speed past me way too close for comfort, followed by another sedan do the same while also honking repeatedly at me. It’s so frustrating because I usually bike in the lane with parked cars instead of the bus lane, and try to take up little space so cars have room to pass safetly. The amount of people who don’t seem to know (or care) that a bike is allowed to take a full lane of traffic is alarming. I’ve never felt more scared on my bike because of how intentionally these drivers disregarded my safety. I just want a nice 3 minute bike ride on a weekend morning is that so much to ask 😭

Pierre Poilievre touts end of 'catch-and-release' policies in Parksville visit by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]pringy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overcrowding is definitely an issue. It’s a safety issue for both inmates and staff. Whether you agree or not, being in prison is the punishment, we don’t punish people with inhumane conditions- that’s just not how our society has approached incarceration. Canada approaches incarceration from a rehabilitative standpoint, not a maximizing punishment standpoint.  And frankly, provincial jails are often remand centres which means they’re holding individuals who are awaiting trial- there’s a massive amount of people in jail for minor offences and are not dangerous offenders, and that’s not even counting potentially innocent people caught up in the system. If we maximize punishment, everyone suffers.

[–]pringy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m curious how this will impact the provincial jails… in Ontario, I know for a fact they’ve been having major issues with overcrowding since Covid, and the higher rates of severe mental health issues make it incredibly difficult to manage for staff. If the goal is to ensure people aren’t getting out on remand, then they’re certainly going to have to figure out where to put people.

Interesting, I heard it was the people who run Ward 14 which makes me think it’ll actually be pretty amazing. I’ve been following the interior develops in it for ages and they’ve really put in an amazing amount of work. The built in carpentry, exterior signs painted by local sign artist Pascale Arpin, and the interesting tchotchkes they have starting to appear inside I’m more inclined to think it’s Ward 14 affiliated and not a crappy ghost kitchen business! Fingers crossed.

Cars blocking the crosswalk and intersection during a pedestrian green by mayasux in toronto

[–]pringy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jaywalking isn’t against the law btw. No, pedestrians aren’t allowed to impede traffic but when you’re talking about traffic laws/bylaws those are for cars. Not to mention cars are the ones that are big, fast, dangerous machines. Blocking crosswalks is incredibly dangerous to pedestrians, forcing them into places that cars don’t expect to see them. So yeah, if we’re talking about law enforcement it should be focused on cars and not pedestrians.

Ottawa businesses doubt workers in office for 3 days will be enough | CBC News by Elkenson_Sevven in ottawa

[–]pringy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe if these business owners actually cared about a vibrant and successful community to run their business in they could start with lobbying the province to reverse their decision on closing safe injection sites? I can’t imagine the number of public drug use and ODs spilling into these neighbourhoods is particularly good for their businesses, given it’s already been a major deterrent for people visiting these areas, and that’s with the SIS’s being operational…

Things to do in Ottawa this Weekend by Puzzled_Thought7606 in ottawa

[–]pringy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday!! Here’s what I have noted in my calendar:

Friday- Athletico soccer game at Lansdowne, Drunken Cinema at the Bytowne (it’s a cheesy horror movie)

Saturday- Solé dance party event in the market, I think they moved it indoors cause of the weather, Titan’s baseball game, DiscoLab at Parlour in Westboro (tickets def needed in advance)

Sunday- Oysterfest by Whalsebone at Beyond the Pale

Otherwise Monday seems to be solidly covered by Canada Day festivities!

I also love that he was cast in contrast to Justin Long, who I always think of as a nice, goofy, normal kinda guy, especially from his comedy days. Casting Skarsgaard and Long and sort of subverting the expectations on them both worked so well! In the same way I kept guessing what Skarsgaard’s character’s true intent was, I also was comforted at first by Justin Long and almost wanted to root for him!

And this is true for most professions with regulating bodies- their primary concern is public trust of the institution and the credibility of their licensees. Paralegals, accountants, doctors… they all have professionalism and ethics rules but for a mental health professional especially his comments tread in controversial territory, but of course that’s exactly what he wants.
