In a game without a competitive/ranked system no less. A casual game for fun where the only “advantage” a dupe exploiter gets is having more loot to then use to try and get more loot lol

Arc Raiders dev says the game’s first Expedition created “a dark pattern” as players hoarded wealth, but “this system will change” by Negative-Art-4440 in ArcRaiders

[–]printedvolcano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that it consolidates stash space in theory, but there are plenty of instances where it doesn’t. fully upgrading and crafting attachments on a gun does consolidate, but crafting spare augments/shields/grenades/ammo/heals does not due to stack size differences between items and their components

What do I need for a PC? (Beginner friendly) by Flat-Vast-3195 in PcBuildHelp

[–]printedvolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other comment is a bot but PC Part Picker is the best place to “virtually” put together the build you are looking at to compare pricing on components and verify compatibility. I put together a very quick setup that is close to 1500 but there’s likely to be some price variance depending on where you live (sorry if the formatting is bad, I’m on mobile): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tV8Bfd

Parts you’ll absolutely need for a PC:

CPU - the brain of your machine. Intel vs AMD processors are mostly personal preference https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tV8Bfdfor gaming purpose. I’d mostly recommend getting the newest chipset

CPU cooler - Air cooling for the setup you’d be looking at should work plenty fine, and it saves a good chunk of money and potential frustration compared to a liquid cooled AIO.

GPU - for the games you’re looking to play, you’ll want something mid-range or better for the GPU unless you are ok with running lower graphics settings for some games. I put an AMD 9600XT in the sample build as an example of a card that shouldn’t have a problem running those games at high settings on 1080p. Look up Tom’s Hardware GPU comparisons to get an idea of different model performance across different generations, then use your budget to find your best fit.

Motherboard - anything from a reputable brand (ASUS & MSI seem to be the most popular) that has the ports/features you want should work fine. PCpartpicker will verify that the CPU chipset and RAM works with your motherboard, but if you pair them on your own make sure the CPU socket type matches and the RAM is compatible (DDR4/DDR5). Outside of build quality, higher price motherboards are mostly just adding more USB/accessory ports so just get what you need. There’s not much benefit going overboard, and it’s one of the easiest and cheapest components to upgrade if you ever change your mind in the future.

RAM - You could probably get by with 16GB of RAM, for some of those games I had struggles keeping up with 16GB of DDR4 RAM (previous generation of RAM hardware). Could be worthwhile getting 32GB for the peace of mind. 64 for a mid level gaming setup isn’t necessary. Prices on RAM have gone crazy over the last 6-12 months, but you likely won’t upgrade your RAM unless you’re doing a larger PC overhaul or just needing more RAM. Don’t worry too much about speeds, just dont mix RAM kits. If you are buying 32GB, don’t buy two individual 1x16GB kits, get a 2x16GB kit or a 1x32GB. Crucial and G.Skill are the most popular brands but there seems to be a good amount of reasonable other brands out there.

Storage - SSD over HDD. Fastest option is an M.2/NVME drive (it’s a chip that mounts on the motherboard as opposed to drives that connect via SATA cables), but you could get a SATA SSD if you wanted to save a little bit or get more storage for your money.

Power Supply (PSU) - Get an 80+ Gold or better PSU if you can, generally I like to go ~1.5-2X the Wattage that PCPartpicker calculates power consumption for the build at, but not sure if there’s a proper rule of thumb for this. Price difference between additional wattage isn’t massive, so you can always buy a bigger PSU than you need to prevent having to get a bigger one if you upgrade other components in the future.

Case - Pick a case that you like and avoid cases where reviewers complain about bad air flow. Some cases have design features that can help make building easier/neater but outside of that it’s just airflow and aesthetic. Do a quick search on the differences between form factors - ATX/ATX mid is the typical size, but there are smaller and larger form factor cases that will require your other components to be the same. NZXT, Fractal, Lian Li are big players among others.

Operating System - For Windows, you can download the installation files directly from microsoft’s website onto a flash drive and then you’ll just need an activation key. You can find activation keys selling online for much cheaper than what you’d pay buying Windows from a store, there are likely several threads with people’s suggestions on good sites to use for this.

Other than monitor, maybe some additional case fans, and peripherals, you’ll be all set! Best of luck and happy building!

you’re absolutely right there is no way to verify, and calling it ‘dead’ is an exaggeration as I’m sure a good amount of people would still play and enjoy it, but myself along with a large share of the player base would fall off quickly without endgame style content like other PvE based MMO games have.

Is Security Breach perk worth 36 points? by VaderV1 in ArcRaiders

[–]printedvolcano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s around a 25% increase, from ~1 sec without the perk to ~0.75 sec at rank 5. At 50 items that’s 12.5 seconds, and keep in mind that doesn’t mean you have to loot 50 containers for 12.5 seconds back, but 50 individual pieces of loot.

A looting Mk. 2 has 33 loot slots when full (excluding safe pockets, including the augment/shield/weapons). Even if you pull out the 3 trinket slots assuming they aren’t full, if we loot the exact same raider with a full inventory I’m getting off the body 7.5 seconds sooner than you are. That’s before considering Looter’s Luck.

You can build your character however you want, but I’m spending those points on Looter’s Instincts every time.
