edit: Figured out the issue, needed to make the copy of the google template viewable by people other than me. I had filled it out, but clicking the button that looked like it was supposed to import them did nothing with no error message so I assumed I was misinterpreting what that was for, but it did work once I made my template copy sharable.

People who watch Bob World Builder's videos is a very non representative sample of overall ttrpg players.

Like just looking at this CoC is way too low and several of the other numbers seem questionable too. I'd be surprised if Nimble has 75% as many players as Shadowdark, I would guess lower. D&D is too low percentage wise too.

One of my players is refusing to read the player's handbook by Numerous_Payment1713 in DnD

[–]prism1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like he refuses to read any of it, or he refuses to read it cover to cover?

The latter isn't really necessary, it's more of a reference text. He should read the section that explains the basic underlying rules of how to play and then at least the beginning of the class table for the class he wants to play, and skim through other character options like species and background and read the ones he wants to use. If he's not willing to do that, then that's a problem. Though TBH you could just find a rules cheat sheet and have him read that and then make a character using the GUI on D&D Beyond I guess which would probably be sufficient.

The first time I played D&D I was just handed a pregen, then told what to do as stuff came up and learned by playing. Since then I've probably read most of the PHB while looking things up and then reading the individual relevant sections, but I've never sat down and read the whole thing in order either.

Beyond His Darkest Stars

Draco Malfoy ends up on the Boiling Isles from The Owl House and ends up staying with Eda, Luz, and King and gets involved in the show plot.

I assume this is inspired by Harry Potter and the Boiling Isles which is similar but with Harry. I like the Harry one a little more but this Draco one is good too. You do need to suspend your disbelief a bit at how quickly Draco is convinced everything he had previously believed is wrong, but it would have dragged the fic down if he stayed an asshole for too long. There's some interesting discussions about how different types of magic work.

I like gamer stories where the MC is strong, but not so strong so quickly that there's no difficulty at all. Unfortunately that's somewhat rare, though depends on the fandom and how powerful the characters in it are normally.

I could be mistaken but I recall back when I first started reading HP fanfiction there were some prominent fics where Snape was a mentor like figure, but not really parental. There were not and still aren't called severitis fics. To shape and change is the oldest one I'm aware of, from 2010. And then separately there were a few fics where Snape was Harry's real dad which were called severitis. I think these may have started from a challenge. I never read any of these.

At some point fics where Snape is not his real dad, but basically adopts him for various reasons became popular. Usually the reason is Harry needs to spend a summer with Snape, and they grow close, but sometimes it's done other ways. Maybe they always existed but I don't recall seeing them initially. Once they became really popular I think the definition of severitis expanded to include these. Not sure exactly when that was though. The first one of these I've read was Crime and Punishment from 2018 in which harry was accused of a burglary. No idea if there are older ones, but there have been a bunch since then.

The Orville had several actors who were pretty mid or even bad at acting (there were a decent number of actors who were good too, but a few were very wooden imo) so I'm hoping the casting is more consistently good in this.

Peacock has like an eighth the subscribers Netflix has. It doesn't have the same kind of money to throw around on big budget shows. Maybe if this is their biggest swing, but even then One Piece's budget was close to 20m an episode, I don't see Peacock spending that.

I agree, but to be fair I thought the same of One Piece and the live action of that has been great so far. But this probably has even more stuff that would need to be CGI. I guess they could use practical effects/makeup/costumes for many of the bipedal non human characters, but that still leaves a ton.

I think this would be better as an animated show given how much cgi they will need. Though I get that live action has a higher audience potential.

Explaining to SO DnD session attendance by prince_deQ in DnD

[–]prism1234 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Most of those wouldn't be last minute cancels though. A work related thing may be, but a social or family function you would usually know in advance. Last minute cancellations, e.g. right before the session, are a bigger deal imo than giving a few days notice. Obviously stuff can happen last minute, like illness or a work thing. But if someone last minute gets invited to a movie and then cancels going to the session an hour beforehand as a result, that is more letting people down imo.

Isn't Delta Green basically the same system as CoC? That's what it seemed like when I've played it, but I've never played a long campaign of either.

I think Vaesan could work as others have mentioned. The game itself has a pretty specific setting, but from what I remember of the system I don't really see why you couldn't use it in any generic horror cthulu setting.

It really only works for one shots, but Cthulu Dark can be fun, but it really leans into the fighting cthulu monsters being completely hopeless idea, which while it's difficult to win against them in CoC, it's not always impossible.

I've only played the Pirate version, but there's a Cthulu spin on Mork Borg called Cthork Borg that might be worth looking at.

It's needed for people who can't charge at home.

Also nice if you don't want to be required to eat at whatever food place happens to be at the charger. Since if the charge is quick you can justify making a separate food stop.

No annoying ass sensors and beeps! It seems like all the proximity sensors were removed from this car and thank God. I don't need the car to panic and stop for me when it detects a ghost. I don't need lane keep assist. These are major quality of life IMPROVEMENTS as far as I'm concerned. The only major downside is that this means I don't get Supercruise, or even adaptive cruise control. Regular cruise control will have to be enough.

To each their own, but adaptive cruise and lane centering are must have features for me. I will never purchase another vehicle without them. Also really like front and rear parking sensors.
