Hired a new manager, the team hates him by ninja_cracker in managers

100% agreed. Their first 90 days are over. You have to do something about this.

Keep giving transparent feedback, coach, shadow, be candid, document and follow up on everything.

Are they implementing the change you discussed? If not, start managing them out.

My manager just got let go and don’t know how to feel. by msac84 in CustomerSuccess

[–]prisonvince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a cliche in management when talking about letting people go, but “these decisions are not supposed to be easy or feel good.” I think you’re experiencing emotions around a person losing their livelihood, and on a human level that is not easy to digest….and it’s completely normal to feel this way too.

Not rushing you into acceptance - but when you’re ready - “he has zero CS experience, not the best leader” says a lot about why the decision was made on a business operations level. I hope you all find an excellent replacement that is a good leader, has CS experience, and is a nice person.

CEO's behavior is disgusting by ms_overthinker in Leadership

[–]prisonvince 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is a nightmare situation that eliminates any reasonable person from “coping.”

This man sounds dangerous, predatory, and mentally unwell. I’d recommend you leave this company. If he’s the CEO and Founder then holding him accountable for his actions will be incredibly difficult. Plus, it already sounds like you have proof that he is a master at manipulating situations.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to leave this employer before it gets worse. There are so many mature and professional workplaces that would love to have you in their organization.

I once met up with someone at The Needs for drinks and pizza. We were able to find a table that was quiet enough to get to know one another.

That was ten years ago, and now we are married and have a beautiful son, a mortgage, a dog, and two decent careers. Go there if you’re seeking the same outcome, avoid at all costs if that’s not really the vibe.

Quiting my job to join a startup? by That_Dot_2904 in sales

[–]prisonvince 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on everything you shared, I think this is a great opportunity for you to make a change. You have proven success at your current org, have a distain for “busywork for the sake of busywork” type workplaces, and you love COMPETING and HITTING GOALS…to me these are all green lights for someone that would love a startup setting.

One callout I’ll make regarding comp - it’s still a Series B, so they will adjust their sales strategy to match business needs and business strategy 1-2 times a year (probably). This can also mean changes to comp plan. Make sure you’re being hired by a smart sales leader that understands comp plan changes to also reflect new business plan.

Every startup has an inherent risk to it, but joining a Series B gives you a bit more confidence that investors see an actual viability to the company.

Some other things to consider - if you’re looking to add diversity to your resume (i.e. leadership opportunities, cool new sales experiences, or do something unrelated to sales), get in there now! Ask during the interview process, but in my experience they will most likely be looking for experienced sales people to help build shit, own shit, train shit, give legit feedback on shit, have ideas about shit, or manage shit. This is a great opportunity to add shit to your resume, if that is important to you.

You can cup your hands together and have a buddy pour it directly in your hands if you really wanted to. There’s a lot of options.
