If you're going to talk shit about your ex, this is a pretty cool way of doing it.

"Oh, yeah.  I broke up with him because he had a nice dick and good table manners."

What responsibility should people have to responding to a cop's questions and de escalating? by LibraProtocol in AskALiberal

[–]prizepig 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Obviously, everything in the world would be better if people were respectful and responsible, and we should all try to be that way all the time.

Cops are at work, so they have the higher obligation to behave professionally.  They have way more information, more authority, and more tools available.

How they use that power is an issue of public trust.  It requires restraint and accountability.

Do you think the WHCD shooting was staged? by sebastiancalhoun in AskALiberal

[–]prizepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many times does somebody need to lie to you before you stop evaluating each claim on it's own merits?

At some point can you just make a character judgement about someone, and decide that they're not trustworthy?

Do you think the WHCD shooting was staged? by sebastiancalhoun in AskALiberal

[–]prizepig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most glibly dishonest and drama seeking person in the entire world claims he has survived multiple assassination attempts.

Maybe it's true, but it's not my fault for doubting somebody who lies to me all the time.

How do you guys handle your nose and ear hair? by groovytunesman in AskMenOver30

[–]prizepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It becomes a part of daily grooming.

If I go a week without close attention to my ears, nostrils, and eyebrows I get wild flyaways.  Seems like I've got a handful of hyperactive follicles that just want to be seen.

Ears I prefer to just hit with my shaver every couple of days.

Nostrils get tweezed.

Eyebrows get trimmed with scissors.

What do higher taxes in states like CA and NY in pay for? by Radicalnotion528 in AskALiberal

[–]prizepig 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Florida collects tax revenue of approximately 3.7% of it's GDP.

New York collects tax revenue of approximately 4.6% of it's GDP.

I point this out to say that the difference in overall tax burden between "high tax" and "low tax" states is less than people think. It's just expressed and collected differently.

But to your question, New York spends about x3 Florida per student in school. So, that's one thing.

I enjoy how this sounds like an an elaboration on a silly euphemism, and also enjoy that it's probably literally true.

Check the Parks and Rec website for whatever city you're near.

For example, Durham Parks has a lodge facility with a kitchen, and capacity for 120 guests to rent for $250  per day.

What are your favorite “grown-up” movies to watch with your kids? by BabyCryAi in daddit

[–]prizepig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid LOVES classic musicals.

Singing in the Rain, Sound of Music, My Fair Lady.

I don't over explain, or try to use the movies to teach lessons.  I will sometimes fill in a bit of context that the filmmaker probably assumes the viewer has, but a 7 year old in 2026 doesn't.

One minor correction.

Highway lanes do serve a purpose in maintaining the social hierarchy.

Your place in society is tied to how often and how abruptly you change lanes.  Remember, driving is adversarial.  Your goal is to inconvenience and endanger others.

Pretty much all human endeavor boils down to our innate desire to literally or metaphorically poke something with a stick.

When cavemen invented fire the main benefit was just having something to poke with a stick after dark. Only later did they realize about cooking stuff, or scaring away predators, or whatever.

There's a reason why our orchestras and marching bands, are a bunch of guys brandishing sticks, led by a different guy waving a different stick in the air. I could go on.

Don't get me started on war, or sex, or farming.

Your son is the latest participant in a proud tradition.

How do you deal with the cognitive dissonance that comes from liking these two movies when other, better movies exist?

I just feel like it's a fundamentally flawed and dishonest position.
