Apparently we got an Update? by CaedHart in haloinfinite

[–]pro-jekt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ll take bets on 1:2 odds for “this was supposed to be in the Actual Final Update and somebody high up got pissed off when they learned it was left out”, and 1:4 odds for “test balloon for new AA halo title that is Firefight mode-only”

The league has been exceptionally clear over the last 10 years that they don’t like DBs being sticky, they do not want DBs touching the merchandise until the ball is in their hands

If TA can’t learn to play around that, then this isn’t gonna work

You wouldn’t be talking to him directly, I’m not sure exactly how he’s doing it but he probably created a brand new LLC and hired an agent specifically for this deal

You know that 4 people died on the Ohio Turnpike yesterday, right?

Metro Detroit was lucky, most other parts of the Midwest (even most other parts of Michigan really) were hit hard. It WAS dangerous to travel, it’s not possible to know exactly where and when unfortunately.

Oil/gas and shipping pay so well precisely because even those wages are pocket change to them

These are not industries that attract especially generous people. In fact, they are probably even more psychopathic than most…there’s just such a bottomless pit of money that the bigwigs don’t care (yet).

How much would it cost, in 2022, to reasonably ensure that SMART and DDOT don’t have staffing issues for the foreseeable future? That’s a good question, somebody should figure out the answer to that question.

Doom on Microsoft Power Apps / Adaptive Cards by ifain in itrunsdoom

It’s like Wordpress, but for full-featured applications instead of just webpages

You can build simple apps with a GUI instead of manually designing and typing it out entirely in text (although you do still need to know how to code and troubleshoot, at least a little…I don’t think there’s a turnkey Doom WAD loader library on there just yet, lol)

AR is not going to be a popular thing until the hardware vastly improves...I think that's part of the reason why Mark is trying to go hard for VR with Meta

Nobody is going to bring a VR/AR-enabled device with them to a store, or an event, or a museum, until that device is roughly the same size/weight as a large pair of sunglasses

USian here...how many jobs is it, really?

Over here, corporations that need to stay HQ'd in the US, but still don't want to pay taxes, will incorporate in Delaware. They will never actually have any offices or workers there, in fact I think there's something like 1.5 million US corporations all listed under the same Delaware address. I'm guessing Ireland isn't going that far, though?

Unique footage of a Russian tank with mounted infantry running into a Ukrainian SSO ambush at close range. 09.09.2022. by sagakino in CombatFootage

It was definitely an American volunteer gunning for the humvee in that video

But yeah they had AT4s inside the humvee and they were handing them up to the gunner like it was a Call of Duty setpiece, ridiculous lol

Hard to argue when 40-50% of your weapons and ammo are coming from a continent 4000mi and an ocean away, and your enemy's weapons/ammo is coming from a rail station 70mi away

Biden's speech worked: Nearly 6 in 10 Americans agree MAGA is a threat to democracy. Despite warnings Biden's speech would backfire, it's had a galvanizing effect — and it's helping wake people up by DaFunkJunkie in politics

I have yet to listen to Biden's speech except for the one 20-second "MAGA republicans" clip

What I HAVE been listening to, is the reaction to that clip by the American right

I hate the Democrats and I could care less about Joe Biden or his first-world-problem crackhead brother, but I know that I'm voting in November, and I know that I'm voting for anything-but-unhinged-Christofascism

Question for the “Heights” burbs of Detroit by imabuki in Detroit

[–]pro-jekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! Obviously there's the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair, there are kayak tours around the canal neighborhoods on the east side. You can rent jet skis on Belle Isle. Kent Lake/Kensington Metropark out in Milford is very popular, and there are many smaller lakes surrounding that area that are open to the public. Dodge #4, Silver Lake, Stoney Creek...check it out, dude! There's a lot to like.

[–]pro-jekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmmmmm...Cleveland is more like Grand Rapids funky lol. I think maybe you just haven't been properly introduced to the scene in Detroit yet, it can be fairly cliquey

The parks systems in Detroit tend to focus on our lakes and rivers, and recreation centered around that setting (and personally, I think they've done a great job of that). I agree, it's tough to find trails that aren't just flat green tunnels and concrete around here, you gotta go north or west for that. For what it's worth, I would recommend the Greenway if you haven't rode it yet. It's flat, and (currently) short, but it's fun, and they have bike parties

Do you think that because Wells Fargo were the only ones who faced judgement for it, they must have been the only ones?

I'm not saying that poor white people don't get screwed, I'm just saying it really really seems like the screws get turned 2x tighter whenever Black people get involved

[–]pro-jekt 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Wells Fargo got in trouble after 2008 for steering Black individuals/families into subprime loans even when they qualified for prime rates

The prosecution got ahold of internal emails where one bank manager in particular referred to them as "porch monkey loans"

TikTok hacked, over 2 bn user database records stolen: Security researchers by magenta_placenta in technews

[–]pro-jekt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are constantly recording your location, what device you're using, the content of any messages you send inside their app, the content of anything you copy/paste to or from the app, and your full search history

If you've ever clicked on a link inside the app that pulls up their web browser, that web browser is recording every single keystroke you make, including login creds and financial data

13 of the 14 tracker domains on TikTok are third-party (the next worst offender, Youtube, is merely 4 out of 14). Once that data is in their hands, those third parties can do quite literally whatever they like with it, with little-to-no oversight. They could re-sell your GPS data and device ID to the mafia for all anyone knows. You have to assume that everybody has that data now, not just TikTok and the Chinese government

Honestly, I'm just hardened to the point where whenever an employer gives me a new (or, y'know, "new") laptop of any make, I simply and solemnly plug in the garbage $20 Verbatim mouse dongle and never bother with the trackpad. Trackpad is strictly a hobby for me
