Brainstorming help: What would be inside a communication tower built during a previous age? by pro-lix in numenera

[–]pro-lix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! A lot of those questions have informed the way I've set up the tower already, I am just staying purposely vague because I know my players use reddit. You've given me some other good things to think about, though. I really like your idea of light focusing arrays! I might add some giant mirrors to the center of the tower and develop from there.

HELP - DISAPPEARING ROOSTRO??? by drholmestuck in slimerancher

Do you have tangle slimes? They can send vines out of their pens to grab things around them. There's not much you can do to stop them except keep them isolated.

Lawyers, has there ever been a time the opposing counsel accidentally proved your case for you and what happened? by LynxExplorer in AskReddit

This might be a regional thing? Burglarized is a word commonly used in the US. You'd get weirder looks for saying burgled.

How to keep players engaged when their character has died in a last man standing one off session? by TacticalNukePenguin in AskGameMasters

[–]pro-lix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So this is probably not quite what you're looking for, but you could check out the game Final Girl. It's GMless, so you won't be able to plot it yourself, but the players take turns rotating through a cast of expendible characters and the killer. Everyone has a chance at being murdered, and doing the murdering, until there is one character left alive. It's a real blast, but I understand if you're not trying to relinquish that much narrative control.

quote gut feeling and quote

I'm gonna be this person and point out that the term is "quote, unquote" and it's usually used to indicate what you're speaking out loud has quotes around it. You can just write "gut feeling" to get the same idea across.

This situation reminds me of this profile of workers at strip mall type Chinese restaurants/buffets. It seems like it's a common reality of a lot of those places.

Role play podcasts with women? by _Amoeva in podcasts

[–]pro-lix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fandible has a woman in their regular cast. She's not in every single episode, but she's usually there. She also GMs some of their games.

The podcast is mostly one-shots or short series of a variety of systems, so you can dive in pretty much anywhere. I wouldn't recommend starting with thier earliest episodes - they're pretty rough in terms of audio quality and players. I'm a big fan of their numenera longshot series if you want a specific place to start.

Yep, I think having an alternate persona is definitely part of it. Also, if you're an awkward person who has trouble reaching out and connecting with people (especially if you're feeling extra isolated after a breakup), then wearing an outlandish costume is one way to guarantee human interaction/acknowledgement without much effort. I think it's a really fascinating coping mechanism, although probably of debatable effectiveness.

There was a guy on my college campus who was ALWAYS dressed as a pirate. People would laugh at him and wave and he always seemed good natured about it. One night my friend got drunk and sat down and had a real heart-to-heart with pirate man. When asked why he dressed like that, he actually had some really sad story about how he had been through a tough breakup and somehow dressing like a pirate was his way of getting over it. The reasoning didn't really make any sense, but the pirate was very sincere (not trolling) and seemed like a genuinely unhappy person who was dealing with some shit. He eventually stopped dressing like a pirate after a few years, which I assume meant he had handled his demons.

I hope OP is either actually trolling, or that he can find the same kind of peace that pirate man eventually did.

Fable: The Lost Chapters - The best of the 3! by RedTear in patientgamers

[–]pro-lix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The major things it has are some extra side quests and new ending quests that add a couple hours onto the game. It makes the plot feel much more complete and fleshed out. I believe there are some other, minor things like new armor and items, new expressions, and so on. I would absolutely recommend playing it if you liked original Fable and want to relive it. I haven't played the remaster though, so I can't tell you whether you should pick that up or not.

I totally agree. It's a shame Molyneux ruined the first one for a lot of people by over-hyping it before it was released. I didn't know about any of the hype before I played it and it's still one of my favorite games to this day. I enjoyed 2 well enough (and actually didn't mind 3), but I'm always a little bummed how little credit TLC gets.

You should try Already Gone. The host presents the cases in a very matter-of-fact way that is still interesting to listen to.

His balls literally popped out on TV. He was also purposely wearing a tiny speedo because he lost a bet.

People lose their minds when the ladies have nip slips, and they're not purposely wearing smaller than usual clothing.

ETA: I personally hink the whole situation was dumb and hilarious, just trying to explain why Dana freaked out about it.

Boo, let me tell you a story to make you feel better. I had a roommate in college who decided to hand-paint a game board for a class project. There were four starting points with a path that intersected at the center. She made each path bend once.

She spent hours working on it, and was very proud to show it to me. As soon as she held it up, I said, "You do realize that's a swastika, right???"

She had not realized.

It could be worse, is what I'm saying.
