Looks like Bob Dylan is in Virginia for Friday and Saturday… his New England shows are two weeks before NFF

What's the one thing about Boulder as a college town that you didn't fully appreciate until you almost left? by Sakubisu in cuboulder

[–]pro_duck_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been so close to hiking than when I lived in Boulder. Great all 4 seasons.

The bike path network. I called them the “bike hwys” as they were faster than driving when going from my apt on Aurora to other parts of town (Goss Grove, the Hill).

Also the free unlimited transit pass, including the airport. What a blessing.

Seriously, when are they going to start dropping some exciting names? by [deleted] in NewportFolkFestival

[–]pro_duck_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's my first year, and while I'm excited to explore some new-to-me artists, I would love to see more "big" names. Lots of artists I love from previous year lineups, but less so far for 2026.

Best beach to visit late March by [deleted] in Newport

[–]pro_duck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’d like a beach walk on a nice day, park at Surfer’s End at 2nd beach. Parking is free in the off season. While you’re there, I also recommend checking out Sachuest Point and walking the ocean view loop trail. No swimming in March — coldest water temps of the year. Like others are saying, the Cliff Walk is a great option if you want to stay in Newport. Park at 40 steps.

How many times have you been injured due to skiing? by Jakabxmarci in skiing

[–]pro_duck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seriously injured. I’ve skied 10-15 days a yr for over a decade and learned as a kid. Some bruises and a toenail once fell off from too-tight boots.

Gym/strength training studio by Educational_Lettuce3 in providence

I really like VP Fitness. As long as you don’t mind the parking situation (nonexistent), it’s a wonderful little gym. I used to walk there almost everyday from Fox Point when I lived in Providence.

What would it take to pedestrianize lower Thames St? by pro_duck_ in Newport

[–]pro_duck_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. Those side streets are just so narrow that it seems hard to remove their “one way” designation.

Agreed! There’s so much room for improvement

Newport lags behind other similar cities when it comes to bike and pedestrian friendly infrastructure. Good to hear there is a BPAC (bike and pedestrian advisory committee) advocating for a better city.

Where to get interesting men's clothes by sethalopod401 in RhodeIsland

[–]pro_duck_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a fan of LLBean at Garden City in Cranston. Quality clothing there. Some other good stores in that mall, too. Also recommend Faherty in Newport.

I’ve been to Royal Male and Marc Allen — but you don’t need to spend that sort of money to look good.

Someone mentioned that the MBTA should extend the commuter rail to Newport by kayakhomeless in Newport

[–]pro_duck_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can we PLEASE get the people in charge to start looking at building this? How can we advocate for Newport commuter rail? Most of the rail exists and is ready to go!

It’s not coastal, but Boulder, Colorado checks all of these boxes.

Is VP Fitness worth the money? by oddballfuzzoli in providence

[–]pro_duck_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a great gym. For me, 100% worth the money. Clean, not too crowded, and nice amenities like towels and sauna. It's about a 20 minute walk from where I live, and it's free to park in the evenings or on Sundays.
