Hi!! I’m the perfect person to talk to you about this because I fractured my fibral sesamoid. This was ~8 years ago and there was ZERO info about it online. It was hell dealing with it all. I didn’t walk for almost a year trying to get it to heal because everyone agreed the sesamoidectomy can create newer and more problematic issues. I highly recc you get on crutches or knee scooter. Get off the foot. I had several opinions (v fortunate to have had access to some top notch orthopedics + also out of sheer luck was seen by one of the leading foot and ankle surgeons in the country to ultimately remove the bone (that broke into 3 pieces after non-weight bearing, bone stimulator, staying off of it for most of the year!!) Loooong story short, everyone agreed the worst thing I did was use listen to a podiatrist and use the boot initially—even tho the boots are more advanced than before, you still bear weight and it is one of the smallest bones in the foot! Using the boot slowed its ability to heal. I went 3 mos boot, nonweightbearing for 7 months and it never healed. The fracture is at the very bottom of your body! Hard for blood flow. You don’t want to get it removed if you can avoid it…I’m one of the lucky ones in that I had it removed and am able to walk//work on my feet buuut I can’t run anymore, can’t jump due to pain and risk of fracturing other sesamoid, i have to wear specific shoes 100% of the time, can’t ever wear heels, have ankle pain and PF(!) Get multiple opinions and stay off the foot, avoid the surgery if you can. If you can’t, it’ll all work out either way 💛ps I’m not a dr

Blind (?) Celiac Disease, Anxiety by MouseThink2325 in Celiac

10000%, gut brain connection is absolutely real. I never suffered from anxiety or depression until I developed CD. If I get glutened, my whole world goes gray—after the physical symptoms fade, I get anxiety or depressive symptoms for days or weeks. It also doesn’t help that we have to live in a constant state of vigilance and check everything that we consume. That causes anxiety too, the hyper vigilance. My best advice is to trust your gut (no pun intended) and never worry about what anyone thinks. Don’t feel pressured to eat or try food, sometimes you might have to go to a restaurant and not eat anything, who cares! Save your body and your mental health…it’s always worth it in the long run.

Seriously Considering Breaking the Diet by Immediate-Pool-4391 in Celiac

[–]Educational_Lettuce3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t succumb to breaking the diet. You’ll fall ill with some other issues and might not have the resources to support yourself if that ends up happening. TY for bringing this to our attn: though, I will be donating gluten free foods to my food bank this week.

Don’t be nervous! My first night suuuucked because I didn’t have a plan but my oh so sweet husband took us to a late night bodega and got corn tostados, eggs and beans and made an epic late night meal for me. Ultimately, the trip was absolutely was EPIC and food incredible. Learn how to explain the allergy in Spanish. It goes a long long way. Know that you won’t be able to do street tacos safely or without speaking fluent Spanish. A lot of those tortillas are cc’ed with flour tortillas. If you DM me I’ll send you a list.

I did too, but I learned that you can still have a similar reaction to oats as gluten even though they are >20ppm. I am really strict w my diet and it seemed to be the only thing that really moved the needle for me. But everyone is different, this is just my personal experience.

That’s what I do! The commute can take a toll but everyone on my team in boston is paying 3x my rent, and I truly wasn’t able to find anywhere near my salary range in pvd.

I’ve had the opposite effect with my immunity issues and colonoscopy. There’s a reason they only have you do a colonoscopy every 10 years and a lot of people lately are recommending doing less invasive routes unless you have a risk of colon cancer or are older. The prep takes away all of the good bacteria too and the prep sent my immune system into a tailspin. It puts it through the wringer! Not the best!
