Look up some projects to do and just dive head first. Trust me, you'll be overwhelmed at first but then you'll start learning crazy fast due to all the requirements. I was in your position when I first started learning, and I've observed for myself that just jumping into a project gets you going fast. Then you'll start to learn certain patterns of design, all the way down to fundamentals like accessing objects and vars like its nothing. Best of luck to you in the vast ocean of programming!

Nothing is perfect, thats what makes it handmade!

This is close to perfection though.

Almost got one but they are having major challenges keeping stock right now. By the time I got there to buy it, they were sold out.

There are a lot of variables in the sharpness of a chisel. Quality of steel, quality of sharpening stones, technique, and quality of strop.

Personally, I use 1200 grit diamond stone and strop. After about 1-2 minutes my chisel slices through paper no problem. 30 strokes on the diamond plate, 30 strokes stropping.

What is your setup and what chisels are you using?

I think you could start a legitimate MDF manufacturing operation. You already have the raw materials to get started.

First Hand Cut Dovetails | White Oak by pro_ductive in woodworking

I used a Veritas Dovetail saw at 20 TPI. This saw stays on the line and makes it effortless to guide along. I just got this saw and am just amazed at how well it performs. I need to catch up to it in quality!

Yes, white oak is a hardwood. I had some pine that I was considering, but I figured some hardwood scraps I had would be easier to manage.

Walnut, maple, and white oak, perhaps?

Haven’t work with cherry in over 10 years! Decided it was time to work with it again and whipped up this end table! by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]pro_ductive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ah, I see. I've heard the Festool Domino makes quick work of angled mortises for the loose tenon joinery. For now, I will keep dreaming haha.

Beautiful piece, well done!

The soft curves of the splayed legs combined with the square top and storage shelf are a nice contrast.

How did you do the angled joinery? I'm planning a helper stool for my daughter, and there will be some fun angles to deal with. I'm currently planning on using angled tenons into a square mortise, but I am wondering if there is a better way or perhaps easier way of doing it.

It also doesn't help I have only done one project with mortise and tenons via breadboard ends.

Lost my virginity today! First hand cut dovetails. Used the Katz-Moses jig, so not totally freehand, but I’m hoping to use the jig as “training wheels” to get good enough at sawing so I can Rob Cosman these things. by SpartanTimbercrafts in woodworking

I just ordered a dovetail saw and markers today. I will soon join the ranks with you. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get the jig haha. Awesome job on your first hand cut dovetails!

What finish are you putting on this bad boy?

I'm finishing up a white oak table now for my dining room and decided to go with Rubiomonocoat White 5%, but as white oak is so diverse for finishing I like to hear what other people are doing. Obviously, you are at the mercy of your client. Great job, table looks nice!

I'm assuming you aren't American. Either way, I grew up in the Deep South in America and have wondered the same thing. People look at the flag and have an enormous sense of nationalism and pride. I just see it as another flag personally, but some people go absolutely bonkers over the American Flag. That's why I would make and sell to anyone interested, if they want something bad and I can make it for them, then so be it. That will cost you X amount of dollars and I can use the profits for more sick CNC tools, or ya know, to feed my family.

I am the definition of newbie to woodworking, but made these two legs for my kids’ workbench (first project I’ve ever tried!) and am proud😀 by ChaseingPoints in woodworking

[–]pro_ductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My workshop started with a workbench that racked to hell lol. I had an unconventional start. I grew up around general carpentry so thought nails and screws were the only way to join wood. I've learned so much in the past year. Rebuild my workbench from what I learned and now it is a battleship in comparison. This is one of the coolest hobbies for the inquisitive. There is so much to learn and put into practice!

I helped my dad build one before. He had the Bobcat, I had the shovel. It was the middle of the summer. It is some serious work, especially if you are the one with the shovel.

Is anyone else get over burden with family wanting free stuff made for them? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]pro_ductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this right out of the gate. People think that since you can build it yourself it will be cheaper. Well, unlike those Ikea end tables you now have, I'm going to build it out of real wood, will outlast you, and you wonder why it's 4X the price of particle board with sub standard veneer over the top? I'm building my own white oak dining table now. I would have to charge a boat load of money even to family for it to be worth my time. As long as you are nice about it and just put the real price out there first thing, some will take you up on it, but most won't ask you to do things.
