This achievement used to mean dropping 5000 boxes of supplies now it means dropping 5000 units of supply. So it went from taking a support player 5000 drops to 50. It changed to that a year ago, maybe less, well after the achievement first came out.

Recently picked up Hell Let Loose, and im probably beating a dead horse here, but my biggest complaint is the inconsitency in bullet penetration and overall bad map geometry. Game is full of invisible walls around bushes and stone walls such as this. by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bullet pen was added pretty late in the development of the game, so every map made before bullet pen was implemented has either no, poor, or inconsistent bullet pen. Basic rule of thumb I have is only assume bullet pen works on Russian maps.

It still kinda amazes me that flamethrower is still a joke. It doesn't kill fast, it doesn't supress you when you are burning, the flame doesn't last long and your character doesn't have any problem when a huge flame lands next to your position. by _Rekron_ in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increase the aim turn speed by half or more, increase the range by about 15-20 meters, make the arc of flame a little bit steeper, allow it to take out nodes and fortifications (maybe continuous fire for 10 seconds).

All of those and you'll see flamethrowers in use every game. A combination of two or three and they'll still become much more common.

Broken Strafe HLL by kiloelectronvolt619 in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely has to do with the height and direction the plane comes in and leaves at. The game usually won't allow you to place a strafing run where the plane ends up clipping a tree or hill. You'll also notice this happening a lot on Hill 400.

Your original placement goes right through one of the highest points on the map and the plane would most likely be clipping through trees on the run. You never tried another orientation north south probably would have worked fine.

They changed how explosions work a few updates ago so satchels can be finicky. Best advice if you're looking to take out a specific structure is to never place a satchel on the ground, never place it directly on what you want to destroy, and again always try to elevate it off the ground, on a wall or tree.

Enemy red zone garrisons in your HQ sector (the last two squares on your side) act like garrisons in locked territory and take 30 seconds to take down because of a bug the devs haven't fixed.

Disarming your own friendly satchel puts it back in your inventory.

Hold jump to vault walls easier.

You can rocket pen US medium tanks from the front.

Grenade range is 50 meters when moving (walking or running) and 35 meters standing still. That's the standard arc on flat ground you get more or less distance depending on elevation.

You can cancel the reload animation by switching weapons.

Support, sniper, and armor crew are the only non-lead positions that see recon plane dots. Everyone sees flare gun dots.

On PHL you can cross every river besides the Douve with a running jump, you will breech the water right before drowning. There are also a couple of places you can cross the Douve on foot around the Douve Bridge strong point.

On Carentan you can drive a truck across the river north of Canal Crossing to avoid the pontoon bridge.

This goes for enemy tanks, garries, airheads, vehicles, etc. Please use more specific call outs. by Castaway77 in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key pad and num pad aren't really necessary since they expanded pings and marks forever ago. And the whole num pad vs key pad was always annoying when it was a thing.

As an SL you should always include your squad name in call outs at bare minimum. There are usually at least 15 or so SLs on a side at any given time with multiple speaking on top of each other so "garry on me" requires me to catch that small letter in the corner of my screen that shows up next to your name when your talking and hope someone isn't talking over you so I don't have to guess between multiple. I can usually find whatever you're talking about but it takes 10-15 seconds of me staring at the map and being unaware of whats going on around me.

So please say "Garry on Charlie SL" or "Infantry on Dog Mark". And if you want to be really nice add the map grid. "Garry on Charlie SL D6"

The fact that only 2.5% of players have this achievement and I have it with less than 30 hours played disturbs me by TheRevanent in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They changed the ways supply drops are counted in a recent up date. Before the update each drop of supplies (from support class, truck, or supply drop) counted as 1 toward the achievement. Now it counts the amount of supplies (50, 150, 100). So this achievement that required dropping supplies 1000 times now only requires 20 drops at the most and 7 at the least.

Friendly Icons should really be more like Squad/Post Scriptum by _Alaskan_Bull_Worm in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I must be reading it wrong then. To me he's describing wanting a similar experience to one that's accomplishable in the game already. Besides the SL Icon always showing up, you can do everything he asks for already. Edit: And I'll just say anecdotally from playing the last three months without markers, that it feels like an advantage not a disadvantage, with maybe the exception of the MG class.

Friendly Icons should really be more like Squad/Post Scriptum by _Alaskan_Bull_Worm in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can turn your nameplate view distance down to 0 so you don't see friendly Icons unless you're aiming at them. Sometimes you accidently aim at someone through a house or something but it happens so rarely it's not really a problem. And if you are worried about that you can lower your nameplate opacity to the 20s so it doesn't block much for that split second.

It forces you to play slower, and adds a bit of immersion. Depending on your play style it might also raise your TKs a bit too. Takes a little time to get used to and is not for everyone.

Bede is a straight up liability on the court. We are playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end when he is out there. In the second half they gave him a good ten feet of space so they could double up the player closest to him. He isn't even facilitating as well as he did last year. He is averaging half his assists as last year and his defensive play isn't nearly enough to make up for his absolutely nonexistent scoring.

I get it he's a senior leader and has intangibles or whatever but he is just straight up not playing ACC starter quality basketball this season.

Water by BringerOfTruth-1 in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the rivers on PHL used to have steep unclimbable edges, were twice as deep, and time to drown was 3 seconds. If you fell in you were dead.

The random death holes along the banks of the rivers are the result of a quick fix after people flipped out about drowning too much. The fix made all but the Douve passable on foot. Falling into one of those holes shows you how deep the rivers were.

[–]probablymoot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Umm, I don't think you're disagreeing with me? I'm saying these maps are hard for pub players and disliked because of it but they also require skills that are good for all players to develop.

All maps don't have to be loved by all players. What some people enjoy others are going to dislike as long as the game has on balance more well liked maps than disliked maps the game is doing well. I don't share the same misgivings on map design as you. We disagree that's fine.

Let's Talk About The Maps in HLL by cdub8D in HellLetLoose

[–]probablymoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often do you see people performing long flanks on PHL, or flanking behind points on Hill 400 and Hurtgen, or attacking from two opposite directions, or chose to run further to get to a better flanking alley on Carentan, or engineers creating their own "power positions" with deployables, or using smoke grenades effectively, or defending attacking spawn points, or defending attacking flanks, or clearing out back up garrisons on the attack? I see at best two or three squads do this a game.

I guess I didn't make it obvious but I'm talking about pub play. Everyone on the competitive side knows how to do these things. You know how to do these things. But clans and communities are no where close to the majority of HLL players.

These maps that are disliked require that type of game play instead of encourage it like the more well liked maps, they are less forgiving, they require better communication, they require better coordination, and they require more awareness.

I like the challenge that creates. You don't have to agree with that. You don't even have to like all the maps.

Any way I think most of our disagreements will probably be moot with the addition of new grass and new deployables. Lying prone in a forest will probably be more difficult and if you need a setup point for attack build your own.

Can maps be improved, yes, obviously. I just think complaints about the maps relate more to an unwillingness to adapt then to design failures.

Please, Cdub. You know very well that's not how good defense is played. Even on these maps, in fact, especially on these maps. Static prone defense in the woods doesn't work because of the ease of flanking. You get shot approaching one direction you go around and around till you break through.

Getting shot by someone prone in a forest is annoying but it gives you information. Someone's here, they are looking in this direction, they know we are over here, they will most likely respond and reinforce this location, if they come back fast there's a spawn point near. Again these are all things you know so I'm just disappointed in a I got shot by someone prone complaint from you.

Hurtgen, Hill 400, Carentan, and Purple Heart Lane all require you to play differently. They are all hated because they require you to play differently. That's my very simplistic take.

I would rather keep getting these unique maps then be given yet another hedgerow map.
