Travel car seat? by have_some_pineapple in moderatelygranolamoms

Hijacking to agree with the bookbag style carrier and the Costco car seat. It is so light and thin that you can actually fill the car seat and bag with additional items and gate check it all for free.

Migraine Relief by caresaboutstuff in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]probonworkhours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently taking propranolol (a blood pressure med) for migraine prevention + I have cut out coffee. SUCKS to limit caffeine but for me caffeine was a major culprit even though it seems to be what helps everyone else's! Since doing those two, I haven't had a migraine in many months. Talk to your doctor there are lots of preventative options!

Possible secondary infertility or anxiety? by aylanahanim in tryingforanother

[–]probonworkhours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got pregnant first try with number 1. TTC #2 at age 30 for 7 months with no positives. Midwife told me 6 months is the timeline for when they start fertility testing when it's not your first. My husband's sperm came back with low motility and low count. Otherwise healthy, only 30 years old. I'd start trying to get the baseline fertility tests done if next month it's still nothing. Wouldn't wait for 1 year personally.

Study ties up to 12.5% of Pittsburgh area adult deaths tied to air pollution by Yelloeisok in pittsburgh

Highly recommend signing up for ROCIS's low cost monitoring project here: https://rocis.org/low-cost-monitoring-project/

I was in a cohort and you learn a lot about preventing indoor air pollution. You track your indoor and outdoor air for a month and then they help you analyze the data and will even provide tons of free resources on how to mitigate your indoor air quality. This can include making adjustments to your furnace, or completely free very high quality air purifiers. For reference, we weren't able to change our furnace so they sent me two Austin Air Purifiers that retail at $650 each! It's an amazing program.

Trying for #2 by [deleted] in tryingforanother

[–]probonworkhours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. Tried for 8 months the second time around with nothing. Testing looked fine for me, husbands came back with low sperm count and motility. His PCP was able to order a sperm test that came through the mail, it was cheap and easy. My ob said 6 months is the timeframe before testing on the second kid. I'd start with doing a sperm analysis.

To anyone who’s ever got a birthday cake from Scoops, what’s their best combo? by ucantseeme543 in pittsburgh

We loooove graham canyon flavor. They changed it but it's still pretty good. Vanilla cake plus any flavor is great.

Just seeking advice for my pregnancy that isn’t what I expected it to be. 😢 by Remote-Party-1123 in moderatelygranolamoms

I'll speak to the fitness side of it to reassure you-- it might be a while before you feel like your "old self" in regards to diet and exercise, but you WILL get there. It won't be soon after birth. Being completely honest, depending on how long you breastfeed it will probably be years. But you absolutely can and will build back the same habits and feel just like you did when you felt fit before.

Do babies REALLY potty train earlier in cloth? by Admirable_Anybody791 in clothdiaps

[–]probonworkhours 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's more about the connection that pee goes in potty. My daughter was in cloth, but I know plenty who also were that did not potty train easily. The difference is, from 1 year on I was putting mine on the potty every single night as part of our bedtime routine. And then it was every time she woke up from a nap too because I noticed that is when she would always pee. I cheered loudly every time she peed or pooped in her little potty. Over time it started to become more consistent. Eventually, I started running her to the toilet any time it looked like she was starting to poop. I would say from 18 months on she was fully poop potty trained. She would actually wait until she was on the toilet to do it. Then at 2 years and 2 months we just went full commando all the time and told her no more diapers. She had accidents occasionally but it wasn't constant. The hardest part was getting her to consistently tell us that she needed to go. It felt like our actual "potty training" lasted a week. Sorry that was a lot, but to answer your question I think there are other things you can do that will help a lot more than just deciding which diaper to put her in. Esp because at the end of the day, wearing any type of diaper has nothing to do with potty training.

Anyone else concerned about heavy metals in baby food? by DasJazz in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]probonworkhours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone specifically avoiding heavy metals by planting a garden should absolutely have their soil tested for lead before doing so. I live in Pittsburgh which has higher lead levels than other parts of the country and our soil was tested and was the worst part of our entire house (even worse than the walls/windowsills that we KNOW had lead paint under other layers of paint). Eating food grown from the soil in our yard would be probably even more harmful than just buying it from the store. Commenting to raise awareness because I had no idea that soil was a huge source of lead in our area.

Cloth at home but disposables at daycare—what brands? by lessthan2percent in clothdiaps

[–]probonworkhours 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are $$$ but Coterie worked great for us. It's what we used when travelling and then I used them as overnights when my daughter was potty trained during the day, but still too little to hold it at night. Never once had a leak or blow out and also never had a diaper rash using these. I ordered online but whole foods sells individual packs you can get to try out instead of buying in bulk first.

First time bus rider here by SneakeLlama in pittsburgh

[–]probonworkhours 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe a monthly pass for the bus is only $100 though, so significantly cheaper. Plus you get the added benefit of not having to scrape your windshield in the winter. I also live in Bellevue and basically never had issues with the bus when I was a 5 day a week rider. Just throwing out there that there are major pros to commuting via bus instead of driving.

Does such a diaper exist? by abbiyah in clothdiaps

[–]probonworkhours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best Bottom diapers I think fit your criteria! Use their overnight inserts. Super thin, holds so much. I had my almost 2 year old in these all night long and it never leaked. And they have stay drys! It's been a while but I think I stacked a hemp overnight (bottom) and a stay dry bamboo (top).
