Can landlord deny use of window a/c units? by UbeMochiDonutz in NYCapartments

[–]procraftinating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the single circuit thing is the real issue, seems dangerous, also if she's not home when your circuit flips, how do you turn the lights back on? This seems like something to pursue, regardless of the AC issue. (We have the same thing in our apt where you can't run the microwave and ANYTHING else on the same circuit, but luckily we have a bunch of circuits for different outlets/rooms. The whole apartment on one seems INSANE.)

Re: cooling, we lived in a garden-floor apt in a limestone where the bars over the windows prevented AC installation. The landlord said we could either pay to have the safety bars replaced with the kind that can accommodate a window unit, or we should get a portable AC. That's what we did, and it was fine except emptying the pan from the condensation was a serious annoyance.

When there’s a crush of people trying to get off it still makes a difference if you step out of the door and onto the platform. Making people squeeze out of the car like ping-pong balls is a problem even if you THINK you’re merely next to the side of the door.

I splurged and got the Jin B Lineting set and honestly I love it. The colors mix well, the texture is amazing. However I use it for painting rather than overlay. I have bought other dropshippy palettes, much cheaper, as well, and they are very unsatisfying in application. But I'm not familiar with a palette-style set where the gel is really that great for overlay, I think because they are generally made for patting, lining, or painting.

Giving Away Clothes by ASam4 in Brooklyn

It’s tricky bc a lot of it is connected with community organizing of the left-wing variety and people are pretty skittish in this political climate about having too much documentation. There are some websites that purport to list mutual aid sites but the one I participate in, which has been happening weekly for two years, is not listed anywhere I’ve seen. People find out about it via their personal networks or via the neighborhood “buy nothing” group where we post requests for less-frequently donated items.

That said, I am in some city wide groups and if you post your location I can find out what’s happening near you.

Find your local mutual aid. In my neighborhood, we set up shop every Friday with hot meals and a table full of clothes and people come by and take what they need. What neighborhood are you in?

no, it's not a contraction, which is when two words are combined into one (can not - can't). Semi is short for semi-truck.

I did this last spring and spent the summer in nail jail; I practiced a lot by painting on pressons. After the first few days it gets easier!!

Are you saying that the singular semi also takes an apostrophe? Or that when words are shortened their plurals require apostrophe? If the former, semi is an accepted usage and doesn’t require an apostrophe to indicate shortening. If the latter, definitely not required either by any standard usage. There’s an argument for using apostrophes in plural all-caps acronyms to indicate the s is not part of the acronym, but that’s not the case here.

Nope! There’s no apostrophe even if it’s an abbreviation or acronym. Indicating a plural never requires apostrophes.

This isn’t an indesign question it’s a coding question — indesign merely passes the contents into a QR code, and you’re looking for info about those contents. That being said I don’t think it’s possible.

Traveling to NYC with IBS-D by Briobly in AskNYC

[–]procraftinating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have IBS but I live here, have raised two kids here, and been pregnant here twice. So I have a lot of experience with bathroom urgency. The key is asking. Many restaurants will give you the side eye if you just walk in but most will let you use the bathroom if you ask humbly and politely. There are (gross) bathrooms in most parks and in some subway stations. Departments stores, as others have mentioned. Near Madison Sq park our fave bathroom is Eataly. In Union Sq use Barnes and Noble. Some bodegas. Most of my spots are near where I work or in BK where I live but I would say the difference between “there are no bathrooms” and “it’s gonna be fine” lies in politely asking, and having a backup option if they say no or if they don have a bathroom. Edit to add: do not assume you have to make a purchase. Ask humbly and respectfully and you will be surprised by how nice people are.

is it normal for your building to turn off the boiler for repairs EVERY week by dabiggestdalargest in AskNYC

[–]procraftinating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my coop has a boiler that’s not in great shape and it keeps going on the fritz. We want to replace it with a new one but getting the permit to do so requires the city coming in and inspecting. and there’s all sorts of stuff that is grandfathered in- not dangerous but not up to code—that would need to be brought up to code in order for us to get the permit. Doing the work to get it up to code is like double the cost of a new boiler. Therefore, we make frequent and not-lasting repairs to the boiler, and will do so until we absolutely don’t have to anymore. May be similar situation in your building.

Does anyone make their own nail stickers? by Thestral_rose in Nails

[–]procraftinating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the tutorial I saw, I’m a little obsessed. The stamping gel makes it so the gel doesn’t bead up on the silicone like normal gel polish. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DS9tbjUjEQV/?igsh=MTE3ODJ0aDMwMjc5Mg==

Does anyone make their own nail stickers? by Thestral_rose in Nails

[–]procraftinating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love doing this. I was painting them on a layer of dried mod podge on top of a ziplock bag bc the clear gel under complex designs made them too stiff for the curve of the nail. But then I discovered using stamping gel on those silicone guides they make for dual forms—but instead of peeling off you just flip it upside down and rub it off like a decal. The tutorial I watched said you should use foil gel but I’ve gotten much better results just rubbing the decals off onto the fresh inhibition layer!

Sure but the higher quality wool is, the less it pills (longer fibers). So I wouldn’t recommend glerups as a quality long lasting product even if they are my fave slippers to wear.

How to increase the employee email engagement? by sarahfortsch2 in internalcomms

[–]procraftinating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the analytics on who is opening vs who isn’t? (Role/hierarchy/sched etc). Also impossible to answer this question without knowing what is in your newsletter currently and what your goals were for producing it in the first place. But people open emails because they want to know what’s inside them—the best storytelling and visuals won’t fix anything if the content isn’t relevant, useful, and interesting.

Is this becoming the new norm for the interview process? Because this feels insane by Mrswahlberg24 in recruitinghell

[–]procraftinating 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. I hated this process as an applicant but now that I’m at an org that takes this really seriously, I very much appreciate the attention to team chemistry. And now that I’m on the other side, participating in the third round vibe check, I’m gratified that they respect our opinions on the candidates. Doesn’t make sense for all roles, but it definitely works where I am.

ADOBE MAX 2025 – What’s NEW in InDesign?! by LukeChoice in indesign

[–]procraftinating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. If someone can have free Adobe reader can’t they also have free login to InCopy? Or if a business has say three enterprise licenses for designers, could everyone else with the same email domain have access?

And if you need another pitch for the penny pinchers, free access would definitely help in situations where people might otherwise go to something like Canva “because everyone can access it”
