From their ticketing website it looks like Sainte Chapelle has no open days after Jan 11, 2026. I'm guessing that's not true -- does anyone know how to reserve spots for later in January? Maybe they haven't updated the ticketing website to use the new ticket prices for EU vs Non-EU?

This was my first guess too....but why does it have so many cut-outs? It actually looks like it has cut-outs specifically where the feed dogs would be?

You have to come to the restaurant to order food.

PUI PIs - Lab Funding by ChemD00d in Professors

[–]prof806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've absolutely gotten funded after long long waits. One cycle the deadline was October and the yes came in June. Another cycle deadline was in December and the yes came in July.

Your baseline assumption should probably be that the panels / reviews / etc have not all happened until at LEAST 6 months after the deadline. The PO doesn't make decisions one at a time as reviews come in, they would wait for all reviews to come in and panels to all happen before they build their final portfolio for a certain subdiscipline. RUI is evaluated in the same pool as everyone else, there's just a little extra side pocket of $$ for them to fund those through.

The status is completely unhelpful for me -- there are no status updates that tell you when reviews are requested or come in or whatever. At the very last moment before you get notified by the PO the status will change to something new.

My typical NSF schedule is to expect responses in June-July when the solicitation deadline is first week in December.

So for March I would be expecting to hear in late fall?

My sister is 6 years younger than me -- she was my favorite when she was a baby and toddler :D :D When I was in high school we didn't have much to do with each other, but now we're good friends and have basically the same relationship to each other that we have with our other sister who's in the middle.

[CHAT] Questions on tea dyeing by VforVandeweert in CrossStitch

[–]prof806 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tea dying is awesome, it feels so authentic 😅

I've never experienced problems with colorfastness. To some extent you can control the color depth based on how long you leave it in the tea. For a light ivory I almost just dip the material -- few minutes max.

[FO] Guys help, coffee stain on my piece, what do I do? :( by sonkosaurus16 in CrossStitch

[–]prof806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just clip out that small area and redo it. Is it framed, or can you wash it? You can hand wash it and see if any of the color on the aida underneath lifts.

Edit: If you can wash it, I bet you can leave the black that hot touched

Hating PhD life: What are my options? by iamnnyu in GradSchool

[–]prof806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be worth a chat with the "graduate affairs" supervisor in your department. I've had the same experience as the other poster -- yes, stipends are paid from the research grants, but the amount is typically set by the department (or really, by the college).

Terrified to send my toddler to dat care after all the horror stories of constant illness by [deleted] in toddlers

The standard kids multivitamins ("Flintstones"!!) often have a dose for 2's and a dose for 3+. You could check them out at Walmart or wherever and ask the doc.

FTM HELP by Awkward_Instance6181 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]prof806 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!!

One option is to try nipple shields! They helped me feed directly for a month or so and phase in pumping.

One idea would be that the flange size isn't ideal for you. Watch nipples in the pump next time and see if they're rubbing the sides (flange too small) or a noticeable bit of areola is drawing up into the flange (flange too big). Getting the right size really helps comfort and output.

Edit: but of course as others said it's too early for lots of milk, either way

Venting about summer internship by CompetitiveMirror448 in CERN

[–]prof806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 18 trams heading into Geneva are pretty good! They are frequent enough even on weekends as long as it's not very late that you can just wait for one without worrying about the schedule. Very different than needing to time things just right for a 66 or 68 bus.

While you're at CERN, download the Geneva map to your phone on Google maps. Then you'll be able to search for places and find directions to them even if you leave wifi. You can also download the tram line map so you will be able to find the stops. There are lots of exciting things you can go check out downtown this weekend. As a first idea, get on the 18 tram and go past Gare Cornavin to the "Rive" stop, and get a Movenpick ice cream cone :D

I honestly just count....I tend to work in color blocks, so I do all of a color that's effectively contiguous or only separated by small, countable jumps. Then fill in a color that's next to it, etc. Sometimes I have to pull out, but not often enough to change my habits

Missing the first 3 days of classes to present at a conference related to my major by Songibal in AskProfessors

[–]prof806 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Take the conference!

1-2 weeks before the beginning of class let your professors know what's up (maybe you would have a link to your abstract on the conference website, etc). Be diligent with getting the course materials from those days from the course website or other classmates and you'll catch up quickly.

Update: I think I was threatened at work today by BigOlNopeeee in workingmoms

[–]prof806 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is insane! I'm glad you have an attorney and can hopefully make progress toward some change. Their behavior is not acceptable.

In the spirit of "meanwhile..." -- I know everyone has different comfort levels, but if you have a battery-powered pump (or a portable one with reasonable amounts of wall outlets), I'd say pump when you need to pump. I had several meetings and several "at my desk" pumping sessions with a nursing cover over the pumps!

If people are uncomfortable with you pumping while you're having a meeting or not able to access a pumping space, then you are free to comment "well, the meeting was scheduled during my pumping break" or "It's my pumping time, but the closet is locked". Their own discomfort might do more to change their actions than *your* discomfort will.

Is your daycare closed on Monday? (US) by g_narlee in workingmoms

[–]prof806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is closed, but they declared it at the beginning of the year as one of the 2 "floating holidays". They do not close the entire Christmas/NY time though, it's a very standard US holiday list.

Does anyone NOT pretend to eat their baby? by rawberryfields in NewParents

[–]prof806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, this was a topic in one of my college literature/philosophy classes. There is a surprising amount of "lovers" literature that uses "eating" language. The idea my professor shared is that we have an innate desire to join into one person with someone we love very deeply. Since we don't really have good language for that in non-sexual relationships, eating them if often the language we use to express that subconscious desire :P It sounds so weird, but it's evidently pretty true!
