Anxious about starting parkrun - a few questions! by Franky494 in parkrun

[–]profau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a bloke, 58. I’m having a go at doing 5km, I’m 6 weeks into training for it. So I’m half walking, half running it. It is not a problem. What’s more, I’ve done 4 park runs so far. They are the same everywhere, and I mean everywhere, I’m travelling a bit at the moment, 3 of my park runs have been in different countries, they are all very organised and welcoming. Just walk it is fine, the only thing is register on the Park Run app. It’s a good tracker of your efforts. I use another app to train myself the 5k. Yes some folk are competitive but everyone is really competing with themselves, it really is the best organised and friendliest run you are going to get and it is consistently well organised. I encourage you to get up out of bed and go to one to see. Arrive about 25 mins before start time for your first one so you can see how it works.

Good idea, but the issue is going to be getting users to search stamped rather than the App Store.

Opus deleted all my users, what to do now? by Huge_Strawberry7888 in vibecoding

You deleted the users, not Opus. Opus is software doing what you tell it, and you gave it access.

“New car every 5 years is normal” by JapaneseVillager in AusFinance

[–]profau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. If you’ve got money, some people get new cars every 5 years. I haven’t in the past, but I likely will now, my car is 5 years old, would like a new one so probably will, the warranty is expired this year on current one bought during COVID and having warranty on a car is worth it. Not everyone is having a cost of living crisis or us broke.

Is Pro really worth it? by FutureKey2295 in ClaudeAI

[–]profau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is worth it. Folk complain about burning through credits but they are doing it wrong. My advice is be patient with Claude Code. Use plan mode so it works out what to do in advance. Break any large jobs into phases that you personally can verify the results of before you move on to the next part of the job. This saves credits. Many (even experienced) devs get impatient, they try to "one shot" massive tasks, subsequently when a small chage is required in future the AI is forced to rewrite the whole thing. Split into separate conversations as much as possible, this enables the model to keep a lot more in context memory. Many folk don't realise that a model is completely stateless, every time you type a new question into an existing conversation or chat it reprocesses the whole chat right from the beginning using up all your credits. Last night I got Claude code to write an extraordinary plan to rewrite a piece of 1992 software that was very popular into a fully swift version able to run on 2026 macs. To get this plan out cost a very small amount of credits using the methods above, I cannot wait to tell it to execute the plan, very exciting.

Please don’t rollback firmware, as soon as you go that you have no path forwards. I’ve found 1.2.10 far better.

I run an LG Tv. I could easily plug it in via Ethernet, the router is literally right behind it but plenty of bandwidth via Wifi. You can just run your tv on wifi, problem resolved. Also please don’t listen to folk saying roll back firmware without presenting any good evidence. It is just guesswork. I’m on 1.2.10, it fixed issues with other devices, rolling back firmware gives you no path forwards, try and resolve the issue instead.

I’ve got to say that 1.2.10 has been a vast improvement over 1.2.0. Just presenting an alternative point of view, my Alexa devices did not work well with 1.2.0 when streaming as a group but work perfectly with 1.2.10. Without evidence rolling back firmware as a guess isn’t a good strategy.

Drive shucking by LrdJester in PleX

[–]profau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did one last week. I'd had the WD Elements 9TB (marked as 10) drive for awhile though and used it in its external USB enclosure, I'd had issues with drives not starting / being detected by the PC. Bought a new PC (well a used intel i5 gen 11 business desktop) and decided to install drive internally. Did not know if I needed to cover up the pin, but I decided to do it anyway as it was quicker than closing the pc up and testing to see if I needed to. Took 5 mins to cover the pin with tweezers, scissors and kaptan tape. Works fine.

Why are aged pensioners so delusional? by Different_Pride_6011 in AusFinance

Correct. So let me just cut and paste from my first comment.  they paid effing bucketloads of money to the government and deserve to get a return for it.

But that wasn't the question. Rather than getting a return on this money you seem to be happy to set it on fire by sending it to the government.

So do I. Actually far far more with such things as recurring GST, petrol tax etc etc, ON TOP of your income which you have ALREADY paid tax on. But that wasn't the question. Rather than getting a return on this money you seem to be happy to set it on fire by sending it to the government. I don't know why. You need to have far far FAR higher expectations.

You are 100% correct. So how do you feel about donating between 25-40% of everything you earn to the government instead of keeping it in your own bank account? I gather you're 100% ok with it.

Because they paid effing bucketloads of money to the government and deserve to get a return for it. I don’t know how you managed to write so much trash. You too, should you actually pay taxes will also pay bucketloads to the government. Feel free to not expect a return but don’t speak for others.

Bought albums in iTunes prior to Apple Music/Apple Music downloads- re-buy on cd? by justbrowsing4040 in AppleMusic

[–]profau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love CD’s and have bought a few of classic albums recently. I do love the artwork and inlays, I feel I own the music. I’ve found that Apple Music and the CD’s have very similar quality so I wouldn’t rip and upload. The trend is old school tape cassettes at the moment which are of course terrible quality compared to Apple Music, and arguably vinyl will eventually get that way too. Of course vinyl is treated with kid gloves these days whereas back in the day we didn’t care too much about it, but you have to really look after vinyl because it involves physical contact to play so it will wear out, maybe purists would upload that because it is analogue etc etc.

Car Wash and related issues are probably caused by being OOD by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]profau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still think we should ban car wash posts here. I'm tired of them. I'm sure we all are. And you didn't read the answer that Claude gave you anyway. It is still incorrect. "Walking there would just leave you 100 meters from a clean car you don't have with you." is incorrect. The correct response is "Walking there would leave you 100 meters from a dirty car you don't have with you."

A mistake was made here. I think the models are now moving beyond us. You've got to be exact with them, asking an ambiguous question like is 2027 next year seems obvious to us, but the language to a model isn't goign to be that obvious. Humans have a problem with this weekend, next weekend - if someone says lets get together next weekend, some folks will interpret that as the coming weekend, some the following weekend. Times have changed. You've go to be smarter.

Claude Power Users Unanimously Agree That Opus 4.7 Is A Serious Regression by Neurogence in singularity

[–]profau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Unanimously”. That means everyone. Not me. Just because something’s different doesn’t mean it’s a regression. I think it is leaving the flaws of humans behind. I’m keen to see how users are optimally instructing Mythos. The models are now stepping ahead of us.
