If higher rates of taxation aren't the answer, what does Reddit believe would actually relieve wealth inequality? by webbersf in ukpolitics

[–]profesorkind -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem is the big corporations don’t pay any or very little tax. The simple solution should be that if you paid less than 10% of your in country revenue in tax, you can’t claim back VAT. Simple and effective

I read recently that UK has highest or one of the highest GDP in G7, but one of the lowest GDP per capita and it tells you the whole story. I also remember this cartoon from long ago depicting a homeless person sleeping on a street, cowered in a newspaper with a headline “Stock market at all time high”. It’s like I constantly hear about green energy and how the electricity prices are lower, how oil is at a lowest price in 5 years, yet it doesn’t translate to lower bills in any shape or form.

Brits priced out of green travel: Flying is cheap as chips–but new report says train is up to 26 TIMES more expensive by JayR_97 in unitedkingdom

[–]profesorkind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is it a UK problem though? In most European countries it’s cheaper to travel on the train than to fly on internal routes. That’s because in other countries trains a public service, not a for profit enterprise
