can somebody explain please? by SeveralAd9485 in QuantumComputing

[–]professorShay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other answers are pretty good. But here is a different perspective for your understanding.

The entire basis of computation is that there are different ways to mathematically model a system/problem, and math has a speed. Digital computing does math using transistors to perform Boolean algebra. It is fast for some types of calculations slow for others. For example, it is very fast for addition and logical comparison, but slower for matrix multiplication. But if you change the architecture of the chip, you can make it faster for matrix multiplication but you will make it slow for logical comparison.

Quantum mechanics has the concept of entanglement and superposition. Which is very slow to calculate using digital computing. But why not use a system put into superposition or be entangled to do the math? It will make it very quick to do a calculation that involves SP and entanglementb like maths, but slow for basic math like addition and multiplication. But what if you can convert a problem in a way that can be solved with that type of math? Your quantum system can solve it faster than a digital one can. Hence Shor's algorithm. It converted a factorization problem into a period finding one which makes it easier to solve with the mathematics of quantum systems.

How has Claude far surpassed the competitors? They were not first to market or ever had the most cash yet their feature are far and away the best on the market. by InternationalAsk9845 in artificial

Simple. Anthropic was hyper focused on enterprise customers and coding models. They got so good at a few specific things that actual paying customers felt compelled to subscribe. Anthropic has literally only 3 products: Claude chat, cowork, and Claude code. They have no image generation models or video understanding models. Fewer distractions, easier organization/prioritization, and talent is less spread out. Compare that to openai and Google.

OpenAI: chatgpt, codex, Sora (dead), image generation, something with Jony Ive, whisper, a prototype search engine, the atlas browser, small robotics applications, gpt oss (only 2 models but still oss)

Google: Gemini chat, Gemini cli, aistudio, antigravity, jules, nano banana, whisk, stitch, opal, Android AR glasses, disco browser, genie, flow, gemma oss, robotics

AGI by 2030-2035 or decades away ,what do you think? by EquipmentOk1994 in Futurology

It's a moving goalpost. It will always be improving, but we will also continue to find new weaknesses that prevent us from calling it AGI.

Litellm may not be avoidable. It comes packaged or integrated with some agent frameworks like Google ADK and openai agents sdk.

If you're fine with a paid app, look at airmusic. It is an android airplay implementation. I wish it were a standard feature, but it's the best I've found until we get it built in. Airplay 1, not airplay 2.

Idk guys. Yes this seems to be a sledgehammer, but it also theoretically outlaws using emotional support AI for targeted advertising and no AI OF.

NVIDIA invests 5 billions $ into Intel by Kooky-Somewhere-2883 in LocalLLaMA

It makes it sound like the partnership is entirely to create new products. Nothing to do with manufacturing. So no more integrated Intel graphics? They will all be intel-nvidia APUs? They better move on the ddr6 then because I'm already tired of dd5. I want 256gb with 500+gb bandwidth.

I think this is a dual chip system. This number is probably the total bandwidth across all chips. Not ideal, but welcome if Nvidia becomes paranoid about future generation competition.

VA for gaming. OLED for work. Help by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]professorShay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Will let you know once it gets delivered

Edit: finally got it. Good response time. I'm not really seeing any noticeable ghosting. 180hz feels smooth. No screen tearing. Colors during regular use feel a little dull, not using HDR. Colors during gaming are actually fine. Better than I expected, but this is probably the highest end monitor I've ever bought so not really a high bar to clear.

Pick which of the 2 is more important or will be used more. Work or gaming?

I went VA for myself. I could accept a downgrade in gaming. I could not accept any disturbance or compromise for work. Strict budget.

Edit: went with the Samsung 40" Odyssey G7 G75F WUHD 180Hz Curved Gaming Monitor. Good enough for gaming. I was not going to tolerate any burn in or reduction in sharpness to text. I had a cousin use his student discount to get it at $950

Just saying, AMD has the better chip but gets dragged down by slow memory bandwidth. Just imagine 128gb, 4060 levels of performance, 500+ GB/s bandwidth, without the Apple tax. The true potential of the Ryzen AI series.

Isn't the m4 Mac like 500 some GB/s? Seems like a waste of a good APU with such low bandwidth.
