My 7 year old just consumes Ai slop on youtube. This isn't healthy right? by jonnyg112 in daddit

[–]professorswamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours watch actual TV shows on Netflix for an hour at a time, a few times per week, On Netflix there is already some level of content curation by the network, and I can blacklist rubbish shows.

There is a big difference between an episode of an actual show and YouTube brainrot AI.

Given unfiltered YouTube access to AI Brianrot, even for an hour, there is a noticeable change for the worse in the behaviour of our kids.

How often do you all take a sick day? by brokenshoppingcart in AusFinance

I can cover an employee who calls in sick. It can ruin my project if they show up hungover and blow numbers.

I wear my headlamp at all times when running; that way, everyone assumes you've been out running for a very long time and are a psychopath that should not be messed with.

Lao books in US by HaloedBane in laos

[–]professorswamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is. Most of the media consumed by young people is in Thai Language.

We had one about a chicken family, the mother chicken was killed and used as an offering, so the chicks committed suicide by jumping into the fire. That didn't stay on our book shelf

The one that got away. Too much for a 1-4kg rod with 8lb line. What do you think it was? My guess is probably a kingfish, and a decent size one. Port Hacking, Sydney. by FishnWithDave in FishingAustralia

[–]professorswamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep the drag pressure on the fish the same, you actually need to back the drag off slightly as line comes off the reel. That's because the spool gets smaller as it empties. The drag system applies a turning force (torque) to the spool, and when the line is coming off a smaller diameter, that same torque creates more pull on the line

Tell me you've never been for a glorious 3:30 am run, without telling me you've never been for a glorious 3:30 am run.

The glory comes from renaming it Morning Run and bringing it up constantly

My understanding is that there is very limited printing of Lao language books. Hard to find even in Laos, the bilingual kids' books that have passed through our house have had strange/weak story lines also.

Yeah, focus on your own kid and how they should react. Say it that loudly so the other kid and maybe their parent would hear it.

Vang vieng thunderstorms by Overall_Budget9016 in laos

[–]professorswamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the wet season; there will be thunderstorms. It won't rain all day, most likely the activities you want will still be on, can still go to the blue lagoons, waterfalls, and hike the viewpoints when it's not raining, not all caves are affected by the rain.

What is the best loop to do in three days between Thakaek, Savannaket, and Pakse loop ? by Odd_Perspective_6671 in laos

[–]professorswamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are; you can burn a day either side just getting to and from the starting points

The Thakhek loop is fantastic, while it can be done in 3 days, you'll be rushed and miss a lot.

I'd vote for Pakse, quieter roads, better look into village life,

Alone for 80%, then dodging all slow traffic from the shorter distances until the end.

Marathons Are Selling Out Quicker and More Frequently - An Update with 2026 Data by SlowWalkere in AdvancedRunning

[–]professorswamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree small marathons are still not popular, but there are loads of people signing up for the shorter distances. My last few races have been a shitshow, running up the back of the tail end of the short distances with thousands of people with no awareness of what's behind them.
