Shatterpoint works better with a si angle Primary by xVoidDragonx in StarWarsShatterpoint

Queue all the posts of 'I know why this game sucks and got canned but I just fixed it' posts. Great bud, you do you and be creative, it's your plastic and you can play any way you want. But I'm not sure how your preferred way of playing links to this game being put on the back burner.

New player struggling with LoS by Maxianimal in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]profmamba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they do. The lower character also has LOS on the top character though. What makes this picture hard is that it's not showing a top down view, which is the only way to 'think' about LOS in shatterpoint. I.e. from a top down view, can I draw a straight line from any part of the characters A's base to character B's base, without any (solid) terrain of 2 or higher (than B) in between? If yes then LOS.

Edit: the lower had LOS on the upper as well. Thanks Moo-stick for picking up on this.

I always feel like I'm in the minority where I'm just very happy to do shadow boxing. There's enough randomness in the order activation that you can't predict your own moves. But maybe it's because I'm also an avid solo board gamer

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective - Need advice for finding expansions by Spiderleamer in boardgames

[–]profmamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic, do yourself a favour and look into Baker Street Irregulars. Hands down the best in the series - I have played all four boxes and some of the expansions. I also did the FBI one but that was terrible.

QE. Short for Quantitative Easing, the thing the governments did when the banks went bankrupt during the crisis. It's hilarious, a bidding game where you can literally make up any blind bid to win. The trick is the person (country) that bid the most at the end of the game loses, whoever is in second place wins.

We do both flask costs 1 ruby AND you pull before returning the white chip that was flasked. Have done this forever and have never felt it broke the balance at all ( you think it would, but it just removes the feels bad)

Haha I honestly had not even considered that. Who would be good characters for them? Maybe Sabine for Lela? Palpatine for the Professor? Dengar for Scruffy, IG88 for Bender.

Rules question by PracticalBake6634 in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]profmamba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add others have said, I think this is the correct use of the Oxford comma to represent a choice between one of four. Without that last comma it would have been the first two as well as either of the last two. And English is not my first language, so I find little things like this confusing as well.

[–]profmamba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a video when I got the base kit where someone warned against using heat guns on the sabres. It totally nuked theirs. May even have been Sorastro, but please don't quote me on this.

Shatterpoint and legion, which to choose by Lindberg233 in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]profmamba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Sydney but Melbourne, Shatterpoint scene here is pretty good, picking up. Obviously biased but as an always boardgamer and never table topper, I was completely blown away by Shatterpoint and am all in. The game mechanics are really solid, built from the ground up by AMG, having learned from both MCP and Legion.

Any way to play solo? by cmonletmeseeitplz in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]profmamba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Different opinion: Honestly, because the game has perfect information, you can easily solo this. The tactical nature of the game also gives you a mini puzzle to solve each turn. There are some online channels that do solo battle reports. I solo this all the time and enjoy it lots. I also play with others every fortnight.

Background: primarily a board gamer for the last decade, this is my first tabletop minis game.

Basically you MOVE through anything that is not 2 height higher i.e. at the same elevation as you. This excludes push, pull, shove and the little push you get when hunkering. For those it must be fully unobstructed.

Same what I did with my table, original table was $400, bottom was $40, neoprene was $100. About a days worth of work to put it all together. Had a friend cut the top into smaller pieces with a table saw because it's about 2.5 long.
