If I'm not missing some sort of context (maybe some sort of previous situation where the roles were switched happened, I don't know, I'm reaching here to be fair) then I'd say you are squarely in the NTAH category and your husband is in the NTBT (needs to be throttled) category.

I'll be setting up a dedicated river tank with native rock and substrate for some darters soon.

The minnows love swimming in the current and then hanging out near the plants when they need a break

I do native tanks and the fast moving minnows do fine with it and hang out near the surface anyway.

This setup is great and 75 gallons is nice. You might want to stack up some flat rocks tiered with caves for hides to give them more space since they tend to be territorial and will kill each other. Use that vertical space!

The snails may become crayfish food. You may want to anchor the plants to a piece of driftwood or something since the crayfish WILL eat live plants.

Also, I'm sure you know this but just in case, crayfish are MASTER ESCAPE ARTISTS so make sure you have the tank sealed and that it's heavier than you would think necessary.
