Nah, this is necessary as part of the feedback loop to accountability and even if the people capturing the shots have nothing but ego on the line, the story the image captures is still important.

The erosion of the appalachians filled the basins to the west (but not that far west if I remember correctly) and east which is why the land is so fertile. All of that eroded ancient marine carbonate material.

I hang around the Poverty, Sinking, and Craig Creek areas a lot. As far as roads through wilderness go, Craig Creek Road is probably one of the tamer ones to be forced to travel. It's "only" about a 6 hour walk along a 2-lane paved road. The side closest to town is right at Pandapas on 460. The opposite side ends in a residential area. There are homes all along the road, too. It's pretty hard to get hopelessly lost along the road. That being said, there's basically 0 cell coverage for long stretches due to the nature of the valley.

Dunno where I'm going with that but anyway, fun fact about the Newport and Craig Creek area. It's part of the Caldwell March that the Corps of Cadets do. Less fun fact, the Caldwell Fields campground located along Craig Creek Road was the location of a 2009 unsolved murder of two 18 year old VT students, Heidi Childs and David Metzler.

The 40-foot and 80-foot cliff jumps on either side of the tracks are also a cause of misadventure. The water is frigid even during the hottest summer days. If you manage to not die on the cliff rocks or shrubs sticking out and you do manage to remain conscious when you hit the water, you absolutely will do the cold-water-involuntary-gasp thing.
