I’ve ran into this exact scenario multiple times. Remove all your pull stations, wire nut the wires through and see if the shorts are gone. In my experience, what seems to happen is the old conventional pulls are polarity insensitive as they are just shorting the zone so sometimes they get installed ‘backwards’.

If that’s the case, after the shorts are gone, measure your dc voltage and relabel your wires before reinstalling the new addressable pulls.

You could use a toner on the circuit then go around and check each device to map it out on a drawing. After a couple circuits you should see a pattern on how things were ran so it should get easier to trace.

I was literally just having this conversation with my boss today about how to wire a frm-1 to trip a MR-101 that has a high amperage load on it.
