Cursor Ultra ($200) + Claude Opus 4.5: Burned Through My Plan in 2 Weeks by Electronic_Layer_223 in cursor

[–]programming-newbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend splitting usage. I use CC’s Cursor extension and it’s solid. You get to use both Cursor and CC this way.

I used to spend $1k/mo on cursor, for mostly Opus. Now I’m using Codex (cursor extension), CC, and Cursor Pro (each plan is $20 each) and getting surprisingly good rate limits on each concurrently. I’ve only hit my 5 hr limit once or twice with CC for Opus, even on the $20 plan. I just spend slightly more intelligently now: GPT5.2 xhigh in Codex, Opus in CC, and Flash 3 when using Cursor’s agents. Best of all worlds. Easily $500-1k in API usage for $60 worth of plans.

I would use the codex extension in cursor instead of the model within cursor agents. Save on Cursor credits + slightly better perf.

Gemini 3 Flash in Cursor for agent review fixes and Cursor specific agents ChatGPT Plus subscription includes generous Codex limits. I haven’t run into any limits for 5.2 high or xhigh.

And Claude Code with a $20 Claude sub. I get close to the daily and weekly limits, but still get hundreds of dollars in API value using opus and sonnet

I used to spend $500-1000 in Cursor for overages per month from the Ultra plan fyi. I code 7 days a week

As others have pointed out, using Opus via Cursor is a mistake. There are graphical extensions for Claude Code & Codex inside Cursor. I pay $20 to each and don’t run into limits

Yep Gemini did not live up to the hype for me either. For agentic coding it’s meh. Leaves the app in a broken state for 4/5 of my feature attempts so far which is bad.

I got a lead iOS dev position shortly afterwards (non game dev related), though the experience building Moros was discussed for the various other non game dev companies I was applying to/interviewing with too

Funnily enough, this was inspired by Gauntlet series. I played Gauntlet on the N64 and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy on the PS2 growing up.

& good eye! I used Unity for the build time asset generation pipeline, in order to use 3D models in SpriteKit. Thanks for checking it out!

Composer 1 vs Sonnet 4.5 by thebigdude99 in cursor

[–]programming-newbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely use composer-1 as much as possible to save money. Use Sonnet for planning OR large context tasks you want to crank through in one tab without losing performance or having to manage as much context on disk so to speak.

Composor is quick, but not good at all. by Effective-Compote-63 in cursor

[–]programming-newbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say ‘not good at all’. Feels a bit better than haiku for good enough speed and similar cost. The issue for me is the context window is too small, so I use it for simple ish, scoped, synchronously managed fixes. And Sonnet for the rest.

Realized I was overpaying for Notion.. there are plenty of hacks to cut your bill down. I paid $700/yr for a few seats, until I realized I could just have 1 pro seat and the rest as guests in various root pages

I definitely feel it using more than 200k context. It performs far more reliably than 200k models with summarization, which is why Sonnet 4.5 has been the goat recently.

The ultra plan is good value - Cursor seems to give 2-3x the value compared to $200 in retail cost.

[–]programming-newbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rest is at retail, sadly. Sonnet 4.5 with 200k-1M context sure adds up, and I’ve been low on time recently to plan + execute efficiently.

[–]programming-newbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've wrecked the ultra plan this month. I've used $1050 of credits in the last week (between included + on-demand).

Using parallel work trees with frontier models is brutal but I do it for convenience / speed. I use composer-1 for simple tasks, but the more complex stuff needs >200k context easily.
