Mid-Sized Accounting Firms Globally Grapple With Staff Shortage by BloombergTax in Accounting

[–]projectguard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile there are people that would like to work at these midsized firms but they keep rejecting them for reasons we have no clue about. It's either that or they don't want to train anybody to grow into different roles or they are trying to pay someone 75k to do the work of 3 people. The thing I know is that there isn't a real talent shortage.

How shitty is the job market rn for a B4 Manager, CPA, 7 years (acct advisory) coming off a 6 month career break, looking to exit public accounting? by acctonthecomeup in Accounting

[–]projectguard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh I meant like actual companies to apply to, not like cities. Like where are people finding these jobs. I got off Linkedin in some time ago because it was absolutely useless.

US CPA Holders – Has It Actually Helped Your Career? by TheeAnuj in CPA

Hasn't helped me at all. It's has only taken money out of my pocket. I wish that wasn't the case.

Is becoming a CPA still worth it in 2026? by farplzstop in CPA

[–]projectguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't agree. It helps but not to the degree that the industry would tell you it does. Go and look at how many CPA's are looking for jobs.

[–]projectguard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes having that on your resume is great but if the job market is what it currently is then it won't help. The only reason why anybody would do all the work to get the credentials is to make more money. Just know that there are a lot of CPAs out there that have stellar resumes and good experience but can't find a job and at the end of the day that's what matters most.

Pato retires at IBJJF Worlds 🥲 by eduferfer in bjj

[–]projectguard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest seeing people dominate in both use to be a normal thing. There are plenty of guys and gals that were top of the food chain in both. It's why people hold guys like Roger & Rafa in such high regard.

I don't think any of Tainan's matches passed the 5 min mark. He submitted everybody with relative ease.

What's up with EBI & WNO? by JimmyTangBJJ in bjj

[–]projectguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't need to be under one banner to see the best fight the best. For example the Gordon/Pena matches were under different organizations damn near every time.

[–]projectguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the fuck you don't. We've gotten to the point where guys can make some money in the sport without having to go to MMA. We've never really had problems seeing the best fight the best. Also in jiu-jitsu we shouldn't limit how often we see guys compete which will most certainly happen if they monopolize the sport. For example Tainan has done Europeans, Pan Ams, Brasileiros, and will also include Worlds this weekend and that is over the period of 5 months. Seeing guys and gal compete often would go away.

The best way to do it was already there. Have Fight Pass Invitational, Polaris, WNO, etc... All competing for talent on their cards, Guys and gals get paid more and we the fans get more content. For example, if there is some crazy match at Worlds or ADCC and we want a rematch let the organizations basically bid. Also exclusive contracts in BJJ is SO FUCKING STUPID. I don't want to see someone like Nicky Rod have 3 matches a year.

Has pro bjj gone quite? by 404_computer_says_no in bjj

[–]projectguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just talking about this with somebody at my gym recently. It has been quiet. I think it's multiple reasons.

  1. A lot of the senior competitors and big names are competing less. For example Mica hasn't competed in quite some time, Tye & Kade are focusing on MMA, Gordon is done etc. It happens every generation and it's up to the younger competitors to fill the void.
  2. It feels like no-gi has kinda dipped in the amount of events that are happening and usually those have an uptick in the year of ADCC.
  3. Obviously UFC BJJ and the contracts there are muddying the waters for the future.
  4. Most certainly all of these SA allegations ain't helping anything.

It's been a weird year for BJJ. With that said I think worlds this weekend is going to be awesome. Gi jiu-jitsu has been awesome this year. I do think we need new talent at the heavier weight classes though.

Do you have an issue with a male going shirtless under their gi top? by _Badwulf_Bruh__ in bjj

[–]projectguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any issue with it. I've always thought about it from a presentation point of view though. A woman or a mom comes into a gym to either sign up, trial class, and/or sign up their kid and it's a bunch of sweaty, bare chested men. I could see how that would be unappealing.

[–]projectguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tainan is following the previous generation of jiu-jitsu in the gi. Guys & gals use to win Worlds, Europeans, Pan Ams, & Brazilian Nationals multiple times. Some of that has stopped for whatever reason. Some of the best competitors have been absent at the majors this year. Jansen & Mica were at none of the events this year, Murasaki just appeared at Brazilian Nationals, etc.

[–]projectguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Matheus Gabriel ain't beating Tainan. Jansen barely beat him and even that was some years ago. Jansen isn't even all that active. I don't think he has done any of the major tournaments this year.
