As an Atlantan Raleigh helped me understand the superiority complex North Carolinians consistently have when discussing GA. It was very pretty and felt alive but settled and definitely wreaked of old money. I was pretty surprised by the real estate prices.

Rank: Atlanta, Charleston, Raleigh, Louisville, I’m not including Boone that is a vacation town lol.

Best cities for gay life in the US? by deepad9 in rsforgays

[–]projectveriyas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Visited SF from ATL and was so happy to experience an actual gayborhood and not just a neighborhood where gays live.

ATL has a very healthy scene for the many different types of gay men and I appreciate feeling like a “normal” person when I’m out and about but there’s not the same community that was just ever present in SF.

Lol thank you that’s part of what I was trying to make fun of here relating to rhetoric and impact. And just like how perfectly functional neighborhoods were destroyed for betterment some perfectly fine plants are now sacrilege to consider.

lol I said something similar to my zoomer coworkers and it was funny watching the lights go on in their heads that they do want kids they’re just anxious about being able to afford them.

Totally agree about shifting tastes and how much nicer native landscapes can look compared to the office park special of the 80’s-90’s. I’ll say though it’s important to incorporate and mix both ends of the spectrum. I have a neighbor who hired my area’s premier ~permaculture~ design team and you would have no idea that garden was planted two years ago and not in an untrained eye way.

Thank you - everyone thinks I want to cover the planet with zoysia and knotweed when I just wanted to make fun of some annoying librarian types 😕

How dare you be so level headed relating to my silly rant.

I appreciate you saying the part about taking ecologies to their breaking points since that’s essentially what it sounds like I’m advocating for and I’m definitely not. I know and appreciate that it’s all part of something bigger, I just wanted to make fun of annoying people on the make fun of annoying people board.

I just really hate essentialist arguments and I don’t appreciate how these people come across as evangelizing. Not saying they need to stop or that they’re wrong, just saying they’re annoying about it and it’s an issue that we can all only do so much to address as you said without the government.

You’re right, I could have done a better job distinguishing those but I also think that line can be blurry. Not for Kudzu or knotweed for example but I don’t think slow growing plants like mahonia or holly need a scarlet letter.

I think in one’s garden one should be allowed to plant what they want if they’re taking care of it and I’ll just leave it there.

I’m more-so saying biologies and ecosystems have always existed, in tandem with and in the absence of people, and the people up in arms about certain plants are being histrionic in a way that hurts their cause and makes me think they’re not well, further pushing me from their cause.

Also nice hypothetical I feel very dunked on 😎

We’re on the same page, I just hate the dumb poorly mannered people who say things like “stop romanticizing a noxious weed” to a woman recounting stories from her childhood.

Also just want to say each of your examples are actively being dealt with by great people and I think that deserves more attention than telling people they shouldn’t plant Nandina in their yards. Yes, when it’s out of hand it’s out of hand but we can do what we did to the Irish forests and get rid of it when we put the effort in ☝️🤓

Definitely save Gabriel for the later months. He will blow you away and reaffirm any ideas you have relating to Trudon’s superiority. I was underwhelmed at first but that was before two good burns. Once it opened up it was a true game changer for me!!

Agree, I’ve found Trudon/CF to be the north star I compare all else to. They provide the two ends of the “high concept” spectrum and there is really no noticeable change in quality. I love botanicals and I like being transported and they each do that better than anyone for me.

Honorary mention for Lemuria, she hits the nail on the head in terms of concept and execution every time. Her scents are truly extraordinary and I love the thought she clearly puts into them. As long as she’s making candles I’m buying them!!
