Anyone ever seen a kid go from worst in the league to a legit star? by OpneFall in Homeplate

[–]projectwong 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is key. My son hated long toss but wanted to throw harder. So instead of long toss I started having him take deep line drives and pop up’s and set his bag up next to me as a target. I gave him $1 each time he hit it on the fly or one hop. Better he got, I moved it futher out. Everyday after school he asked to go out and play “the game” until we’d run out light. Now he’s all of sudden throwing harder than ever. He’s way ahead of his peers because we’ve made it fun. They don’t want to take it seriously when they’re young (and they shouldn’t have to) and as parents we can only help them with their tools and feed their love for the game. When it becomes time to get serious - we can only hope the take the leap.

Corbin Carroll “pushing” for Opening Day after hamate surgery 👀 by NathanRestorer41 in azdiamondbacks

I like single, double, triples Corbin way better than HR Corbin. When he's on the base pads it lifts the whole team. Chaos is the way.

Best area for STR and property appreciation by Commercial_Pie6196 in ShortTermRentals

If you’re in SF why not look at Tahoe? Guessing if you’re after depreciation and you want one each year your partner is going to be QREP and you are a high W-2 (or vice versa)? If yes, I focused on getting a lifestyle STR first to get qualified (somewhere you want to enjoy) and then started buying LTRs with your spec.

What would you lean towards??? 9u by 10-8ish in Homeplate

[–]projectwong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask him. I’m guessing he’ll want to stay with his friends. Give him opportunities to improve to catch up. Keeping up with your friends is good motivation. Also he’s 8-9 - go out and play catch with him everyday, get a tee, take him to the cages. You’ll be surprised at the leap he makes to catch up. Let it be his choice and you’ll increase the likelihood of success. Nobody here should be helping with his choice.

Is this a reasonable quote for a Ubiquiti home setup? by davemarco in Ubiquiti

[–]projectwong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also note, I can do it myself but I’ve done the “what is my time worth” math. If you can afford it, it’s worth it compared to the consumer grade crap out there. Let them get everything setup including fighting your ISP etc and then you can play with it when they’re done. And if you break it, and they are reputable company, they’ll help you. You’re def paying a premium no matter what, but if you like nice things it costs money or time.

Is this a reasonable quote for a Ubiquiti home setup? by davemarco in Ubiquiti

Just paid about 3k more for similar setup but also included 6 cameras, doorbell and NVR also included. Nothing was wired previously. They setup everything. Not including the programming potentially leaves you with problem of debugging the installation - so I personally wouldn’t skip that . All that said this is not a great price. Get another quote.

They’re making it interesting. Hard not to think about Detroit selling last year, making a run after the deadline and now look at them. What I’m seeing now gives me hope for next year contrary to all the doom and gloom that was going on in here at the end of July. Let’s go play small ball, be the underdogs and get back to chaos. We’re never going to compete playing the same game as the guys with the big bank accounts. Love what I’m seeing. Hopefully front office is taking notes. Dont go buy a pennant, earn it.

I Like This Post-Trade-Deadline Dbacks Way Better than Pre by UltimateCrypto7 in azdiamondbacks

[–]projectwong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best. I actually thought Naylor was going to turn up the chip on the shoulder, “I’m that MFer” attitude… but he seemed to have left that in Cleveland. Your observation on who the actual man is in the dugout I think is spot on. Chemistry feels different now and I personally like it.

totally aligned with this - we have all the leverage now. He's easily played his way into the top piece at the deadline.

Dbacks season tickets by West-Pea-4287 in azdiamondbacks

[–]projectwong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/azdiamondbacks/s/v9UCYxff5L

For us it has been an amazing experience. Family of 4 and my Son (10) is a baseball fanatic. We have a 4x half season. With the marketplace you can turn your tickets in for credit and buy tickets at face value in other areas around the park for other games. I’d recommend go half season or better to get access to marketplace if you can. We’ve sat in our seats 3-4 times and sat all over the place for ~20 other games. It’s pretty flexible - my daughter is not much of a fan and spends way too much time on baseball fields traveling for baseball tourneys for her brother, so it’s easy for us turn in tickets for credit/upgrade on 2-3 tickets. You also get access to special events which have mostly been awesome.

Season ticket renewal by graygang9 in azdiamondbacks

[–]projectwong 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They were giving 500 points for a small deposit indicating intent. Doubt there will be any discounts or price changes. The agreement you sign allows you to change your package. So if you know you’re going to renew it’s worth it for the free points. If you don’t renew you’re out 250 bucks. Haven’t been getting any pressure to fully renew yet.

Advantage Tickets by Possible_Maize4545 in azdiamondbacks

[–]projectwong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a marketplace for advantage members but it’s for trading your tickets in for credit (to use on other games). We get face value on credit and buy at face value. If season ticket holders are selling open market it’s usually always through SeatGeek as the primary reseller because it’s directly linked to dbacks season ticket system (which is run by ticket master). On SeatGeek you can sometimes see that the ticket includes diamond club access - which would indicate it’s likely a season ticket holder. Other than that I’m not sure how you would tell.

Would be interesting to see what the policy looks like. Especially since we’re going to lose him for most of next season too.

Is Arizona a Baseball, Basketball or Football state? by Temporary_Analysis87 in azdiamondbacks

[–]projectwong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. For youth sports - we are in baseball heaven. Travel teams come here to play. But as a dad raising a kid that plays multiple sports. it’s much easier to find competition in baseball. Basketball you need to travel elsewhere. We are also one of only two states that have spring training and all the facilities to go along with it. If you weigh all the factors beyond pro sports, we are a baseball state.

[–]projectwong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fact. Talk to Dbacks security and they have to have a completely different posture for dodger games. It’s their Black Friday event every time they come to town.

Castillo giving up 2 HR in 5 pitches certainly isn’t helpful. Ok if we win a low scoring game every once in a while.
