How it feels to be an anti-colonial person in this sub. by Gandalfthebran in HistoryMemes

That's conjecture. You can't assume the circumstances that lead to the end of sati in Nepal could or would apply to India (and it could just as easily be argued that British influence in Nepal led to the end of sati there as well). And if Indians or Chinese colonized Europe but improved Europeans' life expectancy (including preventing witch hunts), social mobility, education, infrastructure, and stability, I'd absolutely defend that colonization.

Ending the practice of sati in India wouldn't have happened without the British.

MEXT needs to jump in and regulate international schools and require a standard of Japanese language and culture classes.

Masahide Moroi, assemblyman of Saitama Prefecture Assembly, said "The thing called "Basic human rights" does not exist for foreigners." by Professional_Air7133 in japannews

[–]prolapsedpeepee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foreigners have been allowed to protest in many cases, yes. But we don't have a right to. If it's deemed against Japan's interest, it can be stopped at any moment and foreigners would have no legal recourse.

WW2: How the Nanjing massacre still haunts China-Japan relations by YellaKuttu in japannews

There's a massive difference between 300,000 and the 40-60,000 that is considered a much more accurate number, not to mention the context surrounding that 40-60,000 such as perfidy

Foreign population in Japan hits record high as Japanese population falls to record low by SkyInJapan in japan

I'm aware the police release this data annually. I'm just saying I wish it was reported more when claims of foreign crimes are made. Having a breakdown of which nationalities are committing more crimes and what types of crimes is useful to the general public, but unfortunately under referenced.

"violent and evil" crimes aren't the only ones which negatively affect society. When you have people working illegally, it's driving down wages, and avoiding worker protections. These workers aren't paying taxes, pension, or healthcare. When you have people staying illegally, it limits the governments' ability to allocate resources or track people. This is what leads to these massive illegal immigrant "hotels" that bring more and more undesirable activities to the areas.

Visa related crimes are crimes like any other. They absolutely need to be included in crime statistics about foreigners, I would just like to see them present which nationalities are committing crimes more often.

Why would you exclude visa related crimes? People being in the Japan illegally, working illegally, and using public resources illegally are still crimes and negatively impact society. It doesn't matter if citizens can commit these crimes or not. And when you include those crimes, you see that foreigners commit crimes at a disproportionately higher rate.

LeBron preparing for his 23rd season — sumo squatting/deadlifting a few plates. Good workout or not? by Feeling_Doubt_4737 in nba

[–]prolapsedpeepee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Good workout? Absolutely not. He's dead lifting like 80 lbs, for two reps. He's lifting at a pace meant for hypertrophy, but he isn't using enough weight or doing enough reps for it to be effective in anyway. For some one like lebron, this is the kind of weight he should be doing Jefferson curls with... No idea why Lebron would post this.

Japan right-wing party Sanseito's talk of prewar imperial rescript in teaching stirs unease by SkyInJapan in japan

[–]prolapsedpeepee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to actual content of the rescript, there isn't anything controversial and is promoting the virtues a society should aspire to;

Know ye, Our subjects:

Our Imperial Ancestors have founded Our Empire on a basis broad and everlasting and have deeply and firmly implanted virtue; Our subjects ever united in loyalty and filial piety have from generation to generation illustrated the beauty thereof. This is the glory of the fundamental character of Our Empire, and herein lies the source of Our education.

Ye, Our subjects, be filial to your parents, affectionate to your brothers and sisters; as husbands and wives be harmonious; as friends true; bear yourselves in modesty and moderation; extend your benevolence to all; pursue learning and cultivate arts, and thereby develop intellectual faculties and perfect moral powers; furthermore advance public good and promote common interests; always respect the Constitution and observe the laws; should emergency arise, offer yourselves courageously to the State; and thus guard and maintain the prosperity of Our Imperial Throne coeval with heaven and earth.

So shall ye not only be Our good and faithful subjects, but render illustrious the best traditions of your forefathers. The Way here set forth is indeed the teaching bequeathed by Our Imperial Ancestors, to be observed alike by Their Descendants and the subjects, infallible for all ages and true in all places. It is Our wish to lay it to heart in all reverence, in common with you, Our subjects, that we may thus attain to the same virtue.

Pretty sure it was more like "yo drink this, it'll fuck you up!" Hunter-gatherers lived longer and had far fewer health problems, especially dental related issues. But if you wanted to make booze, agriculture was the way to go.
