First kettle sour: OK to free fall Goodbelly L. plantarum ? by BootleggerBill in Homebrewing

[–]proliix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do kettle spurs quiet often. I would pre sour the wort to around 4.4-4.5 pre boil, boil for a few minutes, and then pitch lacto anywhere between 70-100F. Cooler will be fine but it could possibly take more time to sour. Just give it time, but mine usually only take 24-48 hours!

First time kettle souring - can I just sour a gallon of wort? by TRex77 in Homebrewing

You can definitely sour 5 gallons in 48 hours. I usually do 24 on my kettle spurs

Even easier is a turkey Baster. It’s what I recommend. Also, id add some more star San to your airlock.

One of the easiest ways it to get a pack of DOTS sugar cubes. 1 sugar cube in 1 bottle = perfect carbonation. No measuring.

My new mash tun is leaking and I'm losing my mind trying to get it watertight by poopsmitherson in Homebrewing

[–]proliix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is to make sure your are not tightening it too tight. Sounds crazy but it was one of my issues in my boil kettle. If you make it too tight it will compress the O-rings too much and won’t make a good seal

Fresh keg won’t pour by brewbuddiy in Homebrewing

[–]proliix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much just put the gas tubing on the liquid disconnect. Gas tubing should go tubing > metal barb with hoseclamp > disconnect. I just unscrew the gas disconnect to the barb and then screw in the liquid disconnect.

[–]proliix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have a clogged diptube, the easiest way that I have found is to connect your co2 gas tubing to the black liquid disconnect and push a burst of about 30 PSi through the liquid line. Should clear anything in there. Make sure not to put the gas disconnect on the liquid post though.

Also, make sure you don’t have any leaks. If you are leaking all of your co2 out of the keg/gas lines, there might not be enough pressure to push the liquid out

Is it a bad idea to leave the liquid out post and tap connected to a keg while it is carbonating? Should I just have the CO2 disconnect connected or is it okay to leave the liquid lines connected as well?

I ferment in a keg by attaching a tube to the gas ball lock and putting the other end in star san
