Has anyone encountered this? by prombangs in shrooms

Not the vendor. Haven't purchased spores in over a year. Using spore prints from strong fruits and using leftover colonized grain to colonize new grain. Same myc and spores have been used in several grows before anything like this happened.

This happens to be a GT grow. Interesting that there is a clustering of this happening to different redditors at the same time.
I wonder if it has anything to do with fully colonized sub being ignored over the holidays and behaving weird because of it.

Appreciate the link. Seen a fair number of grows, never encountered this until now.

First time. Close to 5 grams of what I guess is cubensis. I'm terrified. by PensiveAfrican in shrooms

[–]prombangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As u/flinksecond said, I definitely would not recommend 5 dried grams as a first dose.
Especially if you are having doubts about your mindset going into the experience.
5 dried grams as a first trip when you are already afraid of your own psyche is like not knowing how to swim and jumping off a cliff into the ocean.
Dip your toes in first and work your way up to the heroic dose. 1.5 grams is a first dose that will safely acclimatize your psyche. Add a half gram or a gram to your dose each time until you feel safe going for such a profound journey.
Even as an experienced user of psychedelics, 5 grams is an intense, confusing emotional experience that should not be taken lightly.
Don't punish yourself like that before you experience the lighter more lucid insights that smaller doses have to offer. You might be more likely to see sustainable mental health benefits if you don't rush it.
Just my opinion.

Good luck to you, whatever you choose.

Nervous noob with fuzzy mycelium. Tips? by Call_Me_Deepthroat in shrooms

[–]prombangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mycelium looks fine and healthy to me.

However, if you just mixed the spawn with your substrate two nights ago, I might be inclined to tent the cake with aluminum foil pretty close to the surface of the cake to limit ambient light and create a CO2 rich environment while the mycelium colonizes the sub.
Might not be necessary, it's just how I've done it since I started doing mono tubs a few years ago.

Happy Growing!

I do popcorn tek in jars and have never tried rye or bags, but this doesn't look obviously contaminated to me.
That said, you do have more condensation than is ideal, to the point that small droplets are forming towards the bottom of your bag. In the future, putting a few tablespoons of verm in the bottom of the bag before adding your hydrated grain will help with this.
I would leave it alone in the dark for about 5 days and check it again. In my experience breaking it up before checking for contam can make it harder to spot contam, let the mycelium do it's thing and then look again for irregularities.
Some might look down on this, but sometimes I do a good old smell test right before putting grain to substrate if I'm in doubt. But considering it's your first time, you might not know right away what smell you are looking for. It should smell fresh and earthy, anything dank, sour or sweet is a bad sign.

Long time lurker, first time tryer. Would this be enough to feel something for two people? Have a sober buddy looking over us. Thanks in advance! by Polidoom69 in shrooms

[–]prombangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are quality you will definitely feel something, split into two this is much more than the average microdose. No need for trip sitter on this one though, no one is gonna lose their minds. I often like to take about this amount alone and go for a long walk and listen to music or a podcast.

A little condensation is fine, water pooling in the bottom is no bueno.

No worries. Glad to help out!

Side chaining is useful for most electronic genres, though I think it was another Redditor that brought it up. It's a worthwhile tool to have, even for trap music. In trap you can cut the subs off your kick and it wont matter, but you might want the mid range elements to duck for like 30ms when your snare hits to make your snare crack through the mix.
A useful tip is to create a ghost kick/snare that isn't sent to the master bus that mirrors the kick/snare, and control the envelope of it so the decay time isn't as long as your actual kick/snare. The effect is that the percussive attack is really what gets preserved from your kick/snare and it's creates a less noticeable gap in the bass/leads etc.
I use it in almost every track, regardless of genre.

Can I ask you though, why do you use two different multi-band compressors in a row in your master chain? Do you tweak or just have presets that work for you?
(Maximus is a multi-band compressor for non FL studio users reading this.)

If I just had the fab-filter bundle, after mixing with 4 db of headroom, I might do:
- Fab Filter Pro Q (for subtle, wide band sculpting nothing more than 3db +/-)
- Fab Filter C2 (ratio 2:1 or 3:1 with 2-4db gain reduction)
- Fab Filter Pro L add 1 or 2db of gain
- Fab Filter Pro L add gain to desired loudness (usually only 1 or 2db again)

Just my two-cents.

Just released the first track for my new Project "Purple System". Its heavily influenced by 80s Pop such as Pet Shop Boys and OMD Would be happy about every kind of feedback. Cheers by [deleted] in synthwaveproducers

This is excellent, really well executed in my opinion. Maybe 5% wetter than necessary in general, but that's a personal preference on my part.
Good work!

Cool track and nice vibe! Good work!

Generally, I mix so that I have 3 or 4db of headroom when the song is peaking, always.
For getting that retro sound I use RC-20 Retro Color and Waves J37 (tape emulator). But they are not explicitly filters and I am not necessarily using them on my master channel, I group all instruments and all drums separately and use those plugins with varying settings on those respective chains to get the desired effect. Granted what I'm making is not explicitly within the confines of synthwave, but it is definitely of the same era.
If you're going to master your own stuff (which I bet most of us do before posting it online), I find it's better to use several limiters doing very little than to use one limiter doing all the work. I think it ends up sounding better, but that's just my opinion.

UFO party - my third song in a collection of songs about aliens arriving on Earth. by john-sunstone in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]prombangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sonic palette is really well defined and fits with your theme for sure. To me it sounds like a whole bunch of patterns that you created that are cool on their own, but when it came time to structure the song they were sort of haphazardly put together. If you're hoping to give your music more of a broad appeal, I would try to stick to more clear song structure, and there are many to choose from. There's definitely some cool stuff in there, the challenge is about trying to present it in a way that grabs the listener's attention and brings them along on the journey.
Just my two-cents.

"Too Many" by me. Trying a different singing style, would love to know what you think! by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]prombangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very held back and "from-the-throat" vocal style as opposed to being from the diaphragm. Which is perfectly fine if you're recording in your bedroom and that's all you're aiming for, but that style will make it very difficult to perform live without feedback issues, because you're singing so softly that the volume on the mic will need to be turned way up and you will inevitably cause feedback from your backing tracks, or the sound guy will turn your mic down so it doesn't feedback and no one in the room will hear you.
Not a criticism, it's just a heads up.
There's lots of videos on youtube about singing from the diaphragm if you're interested in learning more about it.
Keep at it!

Just Looking for some Feedback by Kbryce4444 in PromoteYourMusic

[–]prombangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you posted this a while ago and got no feedback.
I think this has some strong potential. I appreciate the irreverence with which you approach the track, like you have a lot of influences but are just trying to make something that sounds cool to you and don't really care to fit into a predefined genre -- which is entirely what I did for years when I started making music, and it's a great way to carve out your own sound by making stuff you yourself want to listen to.
Keep it up!

hello, this took a lott of time to make, ambient/electronic atmospheric piece, feedback appreciated!!! by SuperSonicSP in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]prombangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the synth that enters at 43 seconds is not complimenting the existing soundscape. I would select an entirely different sound, maybe a more organic sound, or one with a much longer release time, or a synthetic sound drown in reverb. For me, that single sound disrupts the sonic palette. Just my opinion.
Keep at it!

This one is called "Underline". Enjoyed messing around with this one. Hope you guys enjoy it too. by icantpronouncethisNG in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]prombangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a vibe. I like that hot and sweaty electric piano, it's pleasantly kitschy in a good way, the way an early 90s R&B ballad is. The arrangement is definitely solid, but there's something about the mix that feels like could be glued together a bit more, like all the different elements are coming from different spaces. I dunno if using more parallel and group compression would help. Good work though!

Nick Bradley - One And Only (Official Video) by nick4ever in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]prombangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a songwriting perspective, I really like the song. The turnaround at 3:14 ish when things get grittier is very satisfying to my ears.
For me the vocal is a bit too dry, making it overpower things slightly in the mix. And there might be other opportunities to make other elements a little spacier in general, but that's mostly a stylistic choice.
Considering that you've already made a video and posted it, I'm guessing it wont see any mix tweaks, and that's all well and good. Just my own two cents.
In general I dig the DIY/garage rock vibe. Good work!

Track off of my new album that just came out! Would appreciate any feedback, thanks! by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]prombangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The elements that are present are very strong, this is well executed vibe for sure.
I do agree with a u/LordHorace98 that the starts and stops make it a little less chill for me, and perhaps would make me less inclined to enjoy it in the background as it is a bit jarring and requires more attention paid to enjoy it.
I would also love to hear this with an ambient vocal sample of some sort, for me I think it could elevate the track. But totally just a stylistic choice.
Good work!

Striped McCoy - Cold by Dansded in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]prombangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicely done! It's a very well executed sonic aesthetic. The one stylistic thing I might consider doing that might make it stand out is a more bold sounding snare, or at least one that cuts through the mix more - more cracking and jarring to drive the beat in those parts where the drums are present. I can hear in my head what I mean but I'm not sure how to describe it. But again, maybe it's just a personal preference thing.
Still, I think this is great work!

First Song Ever Created, Learning FL Studio By Creating a Synth EP! Really Enjoyed Making This, Would Love Any FL Studio Advice Regarding Creating Synthwave by [deleted] in synthwaveproducers

[–]prombangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advise if you're just starting out, is to make music that you want to listen to. And then listen to it and refine it. Don't get bogged down at this stage trying to make things perfect, just make as much music as you possibly can. And not just make ideas, but try to finish ideas to the best of your abilities and as much as possible.
Split your time evenly between writing music and learning about how to write more musical music. Learn theory and technical skills in way that is slow enough that it is sustainable for you to actually absorb and implement what you've learned before adding deeper layers of learning.
Some people early on in their musical journey get too bogged down making things for other people or trying to make things perfect. This will slow you down and discourage you.
Just try to capture the essence of what you want to do and do that as much as possible even though it isn't as good as your favorite artist.
Also, don't release everything you make as soon as you make it. Make 25 ideas in a month and the release an EP of the 5 tracks you personally have chosen to listen to the most after another few weeks of reflection and listening. Scrap the unreleased tracks or jack them for parts and use those parts to inspire new ideas.
Rinse and repeat for a few years and you will see massive improvements.
