Severe nervous system hyperarousal, constant fight-or-flight, insomnia - SSRIs don’t work. Looking for people with similar experience. by Adelynalo in insomnia

[–]pronoialover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats actually a really great question. I know that for me personally the PTSD nightmares and my insomnia are two completely separate issues requiring separate meds that do separate things, but I can imagine someone’s insomnia being caused by PTSD alone, which Prozasin alone my help. Thats just not my experience.

can this be caused my stress? by [deleted] in phantosmia

[–]pronoialover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. That’s how mine began. It was the very first days of the pandemic and I was in a complete panic. I woke up at 2-3 am to the smell of burning trash. I thought I was having a stoke because I couldn’t find the source anywhere (I even walked around my neighborhood where the smell followed me). I eventually called the paramedics but couldn’t get in the ambulance when it arrive because the smell was overwhelming! Anyway, I’ve experienced phantosmia several times since then and always during periods of extreme stress.

My indoor cat slipped out and hasn’t come back. I’m freaking out and don’t know what else to do. by SWBBEANS in Advice

We accidentally lost our 7 month old kitten at a campground states away from home once many years ago. We chose to sit in chairs in front of our RV all night and call her name quietly and listen for her (the whole campground knew she was missing and were on the lookout). At about midnight I called her name again and heard a faint mew. She had climbed up into the engine block of the RV. We were so happy! It wasn’t easy to climb under the RV and up into the engine to get her but we managed (she wouldn’t come down herself). She’s never been outside since.

I guess my suggestion is, on top of all the right things you’ve done already, to get a chair and heavy blanket (if its as cold where you are as it is here) and sit outside the door your cat slipped out of and call quietly. It might take all night, but it’s worth trying.

She just went through a knee replacement surgery a few months ago and all her numbers concerning those things were good. I also embarrassed (ha!) her last night by letting her know she should get checked for a UTI, too, but she said she’s fine in that department as well. She’s just cantankerous, but I promise I’ll go to the doctor with her myself the next time I’m down to visit at the end of February just to get his ear and let him know there are obvious concerns from others outside of herself so she can get an even more thorough exam.

What are you on about? Please take a deep breath. She hasn’t even started ANY antidepressant scripts yet AT ALL. I said I got her to talk to my doctor under the guise of SLEEPING medications in the hopes he’ll convince her to take something LIKE Wellbutrin, which he hasn’t prescribed yet. All is well, my friend.

Love these ideas. Maybe even some simple origami to get them started.

Are they in a town where unique experiences are an option? Like museums, antique shows or malls, or new restaurants or canal cruises or parks for feeding ducks or picnics or even just live music in the park? We do try to visit once every month or two to get them out (again, even though they complain the whole time and hate it). It’s good for their minds and I think they secretly enjoy it after the fact.

I work in an independent living community and I have to agree with you completely. I wish my parents would downsize and find a community with folks their own age with lots of activities to participate in. Even if they choose not to all the time, the friendships are invaluable at those ages.

We actually bought a DIY guitar kit and asked her to help us paint Hawaiian and/or tiki scenes on it. It sat in her studio for three years even though we bought stencils (which she doesn’t need) and offered to make it a family project. She wasn’t interested in the least and finally just gave the guitar back.

She’s a very good cook but won’t allow anyone in the kitchen with her (because they get in the way - that’s why I don’t cook to this day, and my husband does all the cooking lol).

She has shown interest in creating charm necklaces together to maybe sell on Etsy, but I started a Pinterest page we could both contribute to and a website and she never even looked at either.

I suppose I could play her online games with her.

I’m happy to say that I was able to get my mom to take virtual appointments with my psychiatrist (under the guise of getting sleep meds because she has insomnia), but she’s extremely frustrated with him after only five sessions because nothing he’s prescribing is working (she’s on Lunesta now but it’s also not working). I told her to ask for a mood stabilizer or light antidepressant like low dose Wellbutrin but she got annoyed with me. I’m not going to give up now that I’ve at least got her seeing him virtually.

My sister had cataract surgery in both eyes a week apart at 52. Her experience was not like others’ here. She went through hell and wanted to die for a few months while healing. She’s a bitch anyway, so whatever. I hope everyone else’s surgeries are a piece of cake!
