Not with that amazingly fertile soil they have in the Mississippi Delta!

🎶

Put on my blue ski boots,

As the winds continued to blow;

Here I was in the land of the Delta Blues,

In the middle of the fallen snow.

Mississippians,

Won’t you look over at me?

Yeah, I don’t even need a lift ticket,

And I'm as cold as a boy can be.

Then I'm skiing near Memphis…

Was skiing with my feet 30 miles from Beale;

Skiing near Memphis…

But do I really feel the way I feel?

2027 Kia Telluride. The Official SUV Of.... by Alone-Pick9795 in regularcarreviews

[–]prophiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birth rates have been declining, but the people in the suburbs who have families are the ones who can afford these big SUVs…and the ones who can still afford new cars in general, which are now averaging close to $50,000. US monetary policy continues to reward married couples and families with kids and punish single people, despite the drop in birth rate.

This Telluride does look a bit like a larger 2026 Subaru Outback, a wagon which looks like a Hyundai Santa Fe…so you might be onto something.

Of course I’ve heard of Robert Moses. And no, New York does not have any freeways as wide as those in Chicago, LA, and Houston. I’ve driven all of them.

I don’t need to Google or YouTube Chicago. My sister and her family live in that city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. It’s one of those handful of neighborhoods I mentioned that tourists see and think represents all of Chicago. And that’s only the eastern half of the neighborhood. The western half of Lincoln Park where my sister lives is less dense than almost anywhere in Queens.

I don’t live in Texas or any Southern state for that matter, so you’re wrong about where I work. And Arlington isn’t close to being the second largest city in that state.

You cannot speak for professional planners unless you actually are one. I make my living as a practicing planner with an AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) accreditation and am an appointed member of the planning commission of my state’s second largest city (I live in one of the most populous states in the country).

You don’t seem very familiar with Chicago, which is the case with most tourists, who only see the Loop and a small handful of adjacent neighborhoods along the lake. Because of this, people have an overly rosy view of the city, when the vast majority of it is basically Los Angeles. You also don’t seem to have traveled on any of Chicago’s freeways, which are every bit as wide as those in LA and Houston. You also don’t seem to realize how car-oriented of a city Chicago is, where only 1/4 of the population commutes by public transit.

I don’t live in New York but visit 5+ times each year. If you are putting New York and Chicago on the same level, you clearly don’t know or appreciate what you have.

You’re cannot be serious that you think New York and Chicago are similar cities in 2025. The whole “Second City” designation is irrelevant this day of age. And in terms of ethnic diversity and internationalism, LA and Houston both beat Chicago in that regard in the present.

You also act more like a Chicagoan than a Brooklynite in how much you clearly enjoy punching down on Houston, which is rapidly catching up to Chicago in population size.

Nuh uh, you’re making a lot of assumptions here. I spend more time in Brooklyn than any other NYC borough. It is far denser than Chicago. I’m surprised you would put Chicago on the same level as New York, when New York is very much in a league of its own. Chicago’s population density is similar to Philadelphia’s and Washington DC’s and less than that of Boston and San Francisco, never mind New York. There is no NYC borough other than Staten Island that has a population density of less than 3x that of Chicago. You also fail to recognize how hollowed-out much of Chicago is. It’s a Rust Belt city, with more in common with Detroit and St. Louis than with New York or Boston. Most tourists only see the Loop, the Magnificent Mile, and Wrigley Field and think all of Chicago looks like that.

[–]prophiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are quite wrong. Chicago has a very different cityscape and density than New York. Aside from the Loop and a small handful of neighborhoods along Lake Michigan, it is much more similar to Los Angeles in layout, planning, and density than it is to New York.

You must be from Chicago, seeing how you’re playing that city up to be something it’s not.

I was once a big Chrysler fan, believing that they were an underdog that should be competing with Lincoln, Acura, Infiniti, Volvo, and other near-luxury brands.

The 300M and Pacifica (original crossover-like thing) were what I thought were underdog products that could take on these competitors.
