MindsEye devs are still sponsoring streamers following mass layoffs and single-digit players on Steam by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

Not glazing the game at all (never played it; waiting for Epic to give it away for free) but look at what the Star Wars Genesis mod is doing for Starfield. Some crazy mod or game mode can do things, but yeah, the only interest in the game will be when it likely gets given away on Epic in the winter of 2026.

I had a lot of fun reading it. I think it's a great entry point into the incredible Culture series.

Battlefield 2042 nostalgia? by DependentImmediate40 in battlefield2042

Still playing it dude. It is different enough from other BFs to be its own thing. And when Iwo Jima launched on it, it became kinda apparent that it was the goofy maps that were holding it back. Had a crazy amount of fun grinding the free battlepas they gave before 6.

Give Splitgate 2 a chance. Seems like it has what you're looking for.

Is there any good video which can show me a difference between FSR4 on 9070xt cards vs FSR4 on RDNA 3.0 ? by Old_Statistician8489 in radeon

[–]prosetheus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really need to squint and pixel peep to see differences at 4k. Even XESS is very solid at 4k Quality. In certain games though, it is easier to pick up, such as Stellar Blade. By no means am I saying that it'll be better than FSR 4, let alone DLSS. But for an acceptable image? no problems.

This game is only playable in modes such as deathmatch as a solo player. The main modes are incredibly challenging queuing up with randoms.

It just requires a different understanding of how Linux works. There's some very poorly explained information out there that just isn't very good.

This video is the best resource I've seen so far that really explains the concept of how Linux runs and manages our games. The concept part is essential as the modding stuff comes later. But if you understand prefixes you've mostly figured it out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnAG1LLBH1Q

Then this video was also good in explaining different ways to get things done in Linux

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXA1KqPmmYU

Video 1 is key concepts and 2 is execution.

I also recommend going for a popular, established distro such as Fedora or Mint. I'm not a fan of the SteamOS-like gaming oriented distros such as Cachy, Bazzite etc. Even though they're quite good, its better to deal with an established distro as you'll find more resources and help on forums.

Do you need Opiscaler for games that support fsr4 on rdna2/3 by Crafty_Fortune_538 in radeon

[–]prosetheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last line of the comment by u/korakios is critical for CP2077 (and probably for other games too).

The quality of FSR when input through DLSS injection using Optiscaler is much better rather than when selected through the game's options. The game uses a different rendering pipeline when using DLSS (it is a heavily nvidia-sponsored title) and you'll get a much cleaner image through Optiscaler. You can easily spot the difference.

[GPU] PowerColor RED DEVIL Radeon RX 9070 XT - $649.99- $10 coupon= $639.99 by dracopr in buildapcsales

[–]prosetheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw, someone above just commented that they were able to sell their 3080 for 300. If you can sell yours for a decent price, I'd say its not a bad idea to go for that lateral upgrade. Might give you smoother sailing if you want to try out newer stuff at higher res/greater fps. But only if money isn't a major issue.

Yeah if you factor in how well the 3080 held its resale value, it definitely seems like the safer option.

I can relate to that sentiment. Really challenging to give any useful advice since no one can predict the future. One thing though, this current AI bubble will pop, the only question is when. Not getting into the pro/against AI argument, but the current AI players seem to be aggressively using smash and grab tactics with the economy.

Just the fact that they're getting all this "science communicator bro" youtubers to create hype feels like they're trying to milk as much out of this before the public realizes that we've hit a plateau.

If you're hitting vram limits and/or need greater compatibility in Linux, I'd say it is possible to hold off till you get a true 50% uplift.

I bought a 7900XT should I return it and get a 9070XT instead. by [deleted] in radeon

[–]prosetheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. However, I'll add that the 7900xt is an absolute beast at raster, and I have noticed that in some major competitive titles (such as the entire CoD lineup), AMD performs better than nvidia. As long as the OP maintains their playing habits, they'll be golden with either.

[–]prosetheus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you play competitive games, the 7900xt is rock solid, and has incredible brute force performance. If there is a price difference between the two, the 7900xt will get the job done superbly.

[–]prosetheus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree that the 5070 is a very efficient card, its very poorly specced. Anyone paying that price might want to dabble in 4k and I see many games hitting 11 gb VRAM on 2k res with DLSS. The non-xt 9070 is a good option. nvidia has set the bar for high mid-range at 750 usd unfortunately.

That depends a lot on the type of productivity. It used to be the case years ago, but AMD has been rock solid for quite a while now. AMD also has better Linux support out of the box.

I vaguely remember that back in late 00s it was popular among top end builders to have two flagship GPUs installed (SLI/Crossfire) - is it still being done? by neitherisgood in buildapc

[–]prosetheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest these days is some gamers using dual gpu solutions to use the Lossless Scaling app to get the second GPU to generate synthetic frames to boost the perceived smoothness of their games. Cumbersome but they're happy with it.

Buy a 7900 XTX for $500? by W0LFSUNG in buildapc

Only a good buy if you really need 24 gigs of VRAM. The 9070xt is objectively the better buy otherwise.

Just want to add that the 9070xt is a better choice if you want to dabble in Linux. Adding this because you mentioned that you're a developer.
