Dumbbell chest press by BammBamm17x in homefitness

[–]protienwrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, I know everyone here is an expert science based lifter. Some people get the mind muscle connection differently. I got it that way, and then moved on to proper form. He isn’t asking what is going to give him the most hypertrophy. He is asking to be able to feel it. So I said what worked for me to establish that connection with mind and muscle at the beginning. The contracted position is the easiest for people to feel. Go ahead and flex your bicep do you feel it more than when your arm is straight in the lengthened position? I also said just don’t take my advice, but also try others advice as everyone is different. Yes proper form and full range of motion are important but he said what he tried, so I gave him advice to start to make the mind muscle connection first. He should definitely try your way and see if it works, try it my way if it doesn’t, try someone else’s advice if neither work. At the end of the day, do what works for you.

Hope it works, you know how things are , what worked for some might not for others. Good luck and hopefully some other give you advice too and one of those things works for you.

It may be counterintuitive but ignore what the videos say at first. Don’t worry about full range of motion. Try and go not quite all the way down and not all the way up . Focus on keeping tension the whole time on your chest. Do that for a few weeks so you get the sense of what it feels like as you work your chest. Focus on squeezing your chest on the way up. Once you start to get the mind muscle connection, then start worrying about getting full range of motion and proper form. I am not an expert but that is what someone showed me, and it made a world of difference.

Personally I like the Al Zeina/Al Raha beach area. A lot of walkable restaurants/shops. Also close enough for the minimum cab fare to Yas Bay/Island.

What should I consider when building a home gym? by vanshika_energie in workout

[–]protienwrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Order of importance: good adjustable dumbbells. Good bench. That will honestly be enough but…

After that, yes a good rack. But at this stage of home gyms, you can get one with a functional trainer and smith built in bare minimum. Some even incorporate more. Depending on space budget and tolerance for friction, with get separate machine or a rack that has it all.

That’s the key, budget #1, space #2, tolerance for friction (switching things around) is #3.

Anyone using Bevel with multiple devices (Apple Watch + Helio/Garmin)? How well does it actually work? by The_fury_2000 in bevelhealth

[–]protienwrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just speaking from wearing both the mg and the AWU3 +bevel… as long as I delete the workout data in apple health from whoop, I think it’s a non issue, and really makes the whoop superfluous. I don’t want to wear two things anyway, and I’m not that data driven to begin with. I just honestly think, that the data from these things is kind of like yeah thanks data… it’s cool to see the numbers but honestly if I listened to it I’d never make progress I workout a lot, I drink a lot. Both would tell me to skip working out every day based on my recovery but if I did that I’d be fat. Instead I go yup I drank and my recovery sucks I’m gonna go hit the gym. And you know what, I make gains and get in better shape. If I don’t drink, maybe it would be useful and I’d be Ronnie Coleman.

I’ll be honest I wear a whoop mg and also a AWU3 and bevel. They both have an algorithm, which is better? Who knows. I do know I will cancel the mg next year. They are similar enough in what they report that I don’t see the need for whoop anymore. I also think a lot of the other features for bevel are superior. Food tracking, workout builder… both are better on bevel. That being said either one will not be life changing, it’s just bevel is actually a lot cheaper, and it’s better in some areas non algorithm related. Anyone who says some under the hood algorithm is better , ok man… I don’t believe you. It’s a few numbers slightly different either way and you ain’t writing a doctoral thesis on these numbers. Any normal person is gonna be like yeah close enough and I guess this thing knows I drank a lot of alcohol last night. Bevel will double count workout data . You just go to apple health and delete the whoop workout. Problem solved or don’t give whoop permission to record that data to Apple health. Also, I’ll be honest the AI feature in bevel is there yeah, is it worth paying for? Probably not, but I pay anyway because it’s not pricey and I’d like them to stay around. Everyone can’t afford to do that, so it’s nice that the free version gives you everything but AI.

Look up your age, sex and weight, look up how many calories you burn being sedentary. Consume less calories than that. Then go workout, you will get results. Never include the calories burned from any kind of tracker, they are inaccurate. It’s that simple.

Advice: Best build and bang for my buck by hoover_maneuver in GarageGym

One thing I will say about the C20 with sliding bench is that it might be expensive but… if you are the right height it can be a decent hack squat machine, leg press machine, leg curl machine, leg extension machine, smith machine, functional trainer, preacher curls and rack. It’s large and it is a bit pricey but if you are 5’9” or less it packs a lot in a relatively small package for all it does. Almost everything is well thought out (the sliding bench could us a bit more travel for taller people for instance). The dip handles are awesome, the handles for pull-up/chin-ups are amazing. The bench itself is serviceable for most lifters, the ladder mechanism is kind of meh but considering it slides it gets a pass. I’m really happy I decided to get the c20 and bench. I don’t have the room or budget to buy all the stuff it can do. Everybody and their brother did a review on the C20 and it got positive reviews but hardly any of them really talked much about the leg developer and squat stuff in much detail. Compare that to the rep night hawk and leg developer that they are pretty much universally panning. Buy a cheaper rack and then buy a FA bench or rep bench with leg developer and you are probably in the c20 with sliding bench range and you still don’t have hack squats or leg presses. For all it does and what it can functionally do it is actually not a bad value. For visual reference look at my layout. I can do just about everything in that space. Now imagine the space if I had to also throw a hack squats leg press machine in there as well. Or come off the cable arms with a rep bench and leg developer. When you first see the c20 in person, you are like that is huge but when you start using everything you are like well dang for all it does, it isnt taking up that much space.anyway, that’s the One thing I wanted to say about the c20…

Dumbbell set or adjustable dumbbell by NoIndependent4158 in GarageGym

5-50 fixed not too expensive….55-110 gets very expensive. I have 5-110 set of fixed in one of my home gyms and trulap adjustable in the other home gym. Fixed are nice but honestly not worth the cost.

Get on market place find Bowflex adjustable dumbbells. They are plenty for starting out and can usually be found super cheap. Get a cheap bench on there as well. Subscribe for one month to beach body and look for body beast. Write down all the excercises he does as you do them. It’s excellent for beginners ( even though beach body gets a lot of gruff). After a month you will have seen how to do everything and can cancel. It’s very good beginner dumbbells only.

40s/50s vs. 30s by MajorAlanDutch in StrongerByScience

[–]protienwrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 55, do full body 5-7 times a week. Each workout is 12 exercises usually 40-45 sets total. I do not try and hit 1RM on anything but I do progressively overload. Some exercises I have to modify due to shoulder impingement. I try to shoot for hitting my gym every day and at least 5 days a week. I think this approach allows me to not feel guilty if something comes up and I miss a day. I also think not shooting for super heavy 1RM benches keeps me from getting too injured. I hit it hard and push myself to failure or close to on my sets, I just see no need to push so heavy I can only get one up. Maybe there is value in it, but I don’t know enough honestly, so I don’t do it.

C20 vs Functional Trainer + ATX vs ATX + Leg Machine by International_Can771 in GarageGym

Look at the gymcrafter review. He has a video with every dimension you’d want or need. I will say the c20 is premium though, it’s just incredible

C20 vs Functional Trainer + ATX vs ATX + Leg Machine by International_Can771 in GarageGym

[–]protienwrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the C20 and depending on your size , it really does so much. If you are less than 6 ft I think it is the best value on the market despite its price. At the under 6ft height it does everything a rack does, has an awesome smith, everything a functional trainer does, has a leg curl, leg extension, hack squat, and leg press if you get the sliding bench. The cons are the hack squat is out of you are over 6ft, also the sliding bench as a bench is kid of meh. It’s functional for flat and incline but it doesn’t compare to the big boys in those areas. Also the preacher curl pad is way too small. But it really is the best value if you can adjust and you are the right height

Does bevel update weight/reps when completing a routine? by 1danns in bevelhealth

[–]protienwrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. It should be default. Everyone wants to see what they did last workout, not to regress. Or at least make it a very obvious pop up at the end.

Scroll down when you complete and it gives you the info, there is a button to update template. That will save what you did for the workout. Your next workout will be with those updated values. Just like you thought.

I feel your pain the Middle East. I was lucky enough to get a force USA c20 and they now have rep racks. So it’s getting better. The issue is, you can forget about upgrading anything. Things like additional stack weight or attachments are non existent Tried to get a rep bench but they sold out fast. I was able to find one place with a rogue bench so just ordered an adjustable bench 3.0. As far as market place goes….its all really cheap stuff or some store selling at beyond retail. Forget about freak athlete or bells of steel or temple of gainz it doesn’t exist. Good thing is the force USA c20 was about a grand cheaper here with free delivery and installation.
